  1. the good & the bad on Space Meat Coming to your Kitchen · · Score: 2, Insightful

While this could help with hunger in third-world countries, I would imagine most other people would reject it as "Franklin' Nuggets". It'll be interesting to see PETA's stance, since those type of people tend to also be against artificially created food (and even genetic engineering).

  2. Hell for consumers on Xbox 360 Launch to Face Several Hurdles · · Score: 2, Interesting

I would be pissed off if I bought version 1 of the X-Box, and then find out that X Game 001 only works on version 4 and above because it requires a HD. If games are compatible across all versions, I think this would still make consumers less willing to buy the X-Box. Why would I buy an X-Box now when version 2 with HDTV could be out in two more months?

  3. FCC won't stop on FCC Wants to Track Wireless · · Score: 1

The FCC keeps wanting to expand their power on the Internet. They are already stepping out of their bounds. It will take the Supreme Court ruling to put them in their place at this point.

  4. Com'on... on Google to Offer Free Wi-Fi? · · Score: 2, Interesting

The article is rather bad at proving anything. It is really just speculation -- poorly thought out speculation at that. Some of their facts seem wrong as well. $60 per megabit!? No way it could be that expensive. Also, saying Goggle will provide FREE Internet all across America is really presumptuous. They have a duty to their stockholders, you know...

  5. Yeah...right on Video Games in The Classroom Case Studies · · Score: 2, Insightful

I definitely think that games can be used as a valuable asset in the classroom, but Civilization, Neverwinter Nights, and The Sims 2? While I do believe that those games will stimulate your mind (unlike a TV where you are a passive observer), it is quite clear that they can be played at home without having to force it upon the kids. Classroom time can be used more valuably for things that kids do not want to learn -- like math and history. Besides, the last thing I want is to be jealous of my kids playing games at school all day.

  6. Re:Watch out! here comes ESRB on The Many Secrets of Smash Bros. Melee · · Score: 1

Well, at this point we can be assured that games will completely take out unintended content when they ship instead of just locking it out. However, the real question is: do the politicians understand how powerful hacking can be? The Sims was in the spot light for their ability to remove the blur around the private areas. Of course, nothing was underneath the blur (like a marquee). But what if a hacker also changed the texture of the characters to show explicit body parts? Hacking a game is changing the contents -- like writing in a book. If I write slurs in a children's book, and then give that children's book to someone, it won't make sense for the author of the book to be held responsible for what I wrote in that book. The ESRB set a strong precedent when they changed GTA's rating due to hack. I won't be to surprised to see game companies spending a lot of their resources to make it difficult for the game to be modded/hacked, but as most of us know, they can only defer it by making it difficult, but there is no way to completely prevent it.

  7. Watch out! here comes ESRB on The Many Secrets of Smash Bros. Melee · · Score: 1

ESRB set a strong precedence that if a user can hack the game to allow something, then that content was clearly put in their to deliberately lower the rating while letting children see that filth. Why won't anyone think of the children?

  8. Noise? on Firefox Share Slipped in July for the First Time · · Score: 1

Anyone who took a stats class would know that this is not 'noise'. It's just bad math to call it that. It doesn't, however, mean that FF is losing in popularity. Even Google's profits weren't as high as expected, but they explained that it was due to it being summer and more people going out. I would imagine it would be the same thing here. Less techy people browsing at home, while about the same amount of people browse at work with whatever IT forces upon them.

  9. What? on Google Loses AdWords Case · · Score: 1

Geico is claiming that Google violated their trade mark rights, but that doesn't really make any sense. It is rather obvious that if a car insurance company wants their competitors' names to trigger their ad, that it is completely within their rights. I wish the article was more specific on what law they claimed Google was violating.

  10. Color for security level is great on Internet Security Warnings · · Score: 5, Funny

On related news, the US puts it's security level color at pink. Again, on related news, Bobby's mom chooses to wear an orange shirt. No need to actually read the security threat -- we have colors for that.
