Yup... it's time to go outside! :) I enjoy games as much as the next guy. I steer clear of consoles because the game play is typically not what I want. That said... If MS develop something I don't enjoy, I won't use it. /shrug No sweat off my back. It's the ignorance of overreaction that they feed off of. They develop products to make money. It's not a sin, nor is it illegal. It's what people do to make a living. While most everyone seems to be complaining here, I doubt very seriously their actions will stop you from spending your money on their products in the future. They've spent countless man-hours and money to ensure that continues. It's quite simple... They want the most money for their games and you want the most game for your money. They will continue to push the limits to get you to spend more, as you will continue to demand newer and better games. It's the very reason that the $500 Radeon 9800 Pro that was remarkably desired just a couple years ago is now "obsolete?"... or how about the 3.4GHz P4? Because it's not Dual-Core it's not good enough any more? Now we'll need Dual-Core cpu's with parallel dual-core gpu's to run high-end uber games! OMG! hmph.. or not. It's all marketing bs. Heck, the most fun I've had on the 360 is playing the classic games that can be downloaded through xbox live. /shrug A 25yo $5 game on a $500 console? That's so ironic, it's nauseating. Not to say I'm above it. I've got my custom home-built $1500+ pc, complete with high-end case and cooling system that has now become obsolete... so that I can pay $40+/mo for internet and a $15/mo subscription to blizzard so that I can a) play WoW and b) get the weather/traffic before I go to work? I guess what I'm tryin' to say is... Quit crying. If you don't like it, don't use it.

But even still.. WIth Adams photos, there are MANY things that could be done differently in a digital world. A perfect example would be the snow often found "blown out" in the landscapes. Even 'white' snow has color... the shadows provide texture. Adams often has solid white patches of snow. A variety of digital techniques could be used to improve many of Adam's shots. Mind you, I'm a fan, but I'm just arguing the benifits of digital imaging can improve even the best photographers work.

The first sign of someone who doesn't know what their doing in the digital photography realm is an adjustment of "brightness and contrast"!

On the note of "Take better photos"... I think you're right, but for the wrong reasons. I have a philosophy on that as well. I can use photoshop to do very minute changes where normaly a reflector can be almost imposible to use. I also use photoshop to clean up unsightly blemishes that a paying client want's nothing to do with. I can save time and money by doing my retouching, but the truth will always remain...

"Crap in = Crap out!" or "you can't make a silk purse out of a sows' ear!" The better the photography, the better the retouching. (not nessisarily less, but more efficient!)

lastly, if you're using iPhoto for your digital editing needs... then you're probably doing something wrong. ;)

PhaseOne is just a rest stop on the road of digital photography. It's nice, but I'll be glad to move on. I'm confident newer and MUCH more efficient software will be out soon that will make it (thankfuly) obsolete.

  8. Y'all are killin' me... on Adobe Lightroom Review · · Score: 1
It's people who THINK they know how to use these software's that keep people like ME from getting paid what I deserve. As an expert Photoshop user, I am now competing with every assclown that downloaded the programs and thinks they're cool. Just like most professions of this nature, photography, digital imaging, etc. has been overrun by amateurs who get the job done cheap, however poorly, its just plain cheap. It's ruined the photography industry with stock photo services. It's ruined the design industry by turning artistic design into drag and drop "look what I can do!"'s. It's just shy of destroyed the web. How many wanna-be web designers do you know? How many of you have an Uncle, friend, sibling, or "other" that is a web-designer or can build you a "cheap" computer?

OK, I give up.. I've typed about 3 different rants, but none are polite enough to post.
    I'll summarize...
    1. Don't think this is easy, thinks are never as easy as a professional makes them seem. We have put our lives into our professions and all we ask is respect for it.
    2. Learn what you DON'T KNOW!!! Before you run off to earn a buck with Photoshop, learn what you don't know about the software so that you know what your limitations are! If you don't know colorspace, file formats, levels, curves, pathing, proper masking, how NOT to use filters to compensate for lack of artistic ability... If you have never calibrated your monitor or printers... If you don't understand how inks react to paper or how light is displayed on your monitor... If you don't know how to stop when you don't know something and find the proper way of doing things... then maybe you should sit back and read another book.
    3. Don't think this is cheap work. I can promise you I would laugh your ass to the street if you thought I might retouch your images for $5. You can't even get a carwash for that! Hell, that's 2 cups of starbucks coffee! Remember, you get what you pay for. You pay for the $5 quick-wash, they make your car wet!
    4. If you really have a love and passion for digital art (productive or creative) then take the time to learn it. Not just Photoshop, but any modern software. Just because you can afford it (or steal it from the internet) doesn't make you good. Take classes, join associations like NAPP (National Assoc. of Photoshop Professionals) and maybe take a class or two or intern for a while. Just please actually know what you're talking about before you claim you do! Please!?!

Lastly, forgive my bluntness, but I am more than fed up with the incompetence of my own industry. almost to the point where I want to start over and go learn another profession. :( sad, but true. I'm embarrassed to call myself a Photoshop expert... I'm ashamed I have a degree in Web Development... I'm nauseated at the thought of talking one more IDIOT who doesn't know when to say "Hmm, I don't know."

The folks I play with work for companies such as Dell, Intel, Microsoft, etc. Many, many Military folks with their MMO as a way to spend time with friends and family. Most of the MMO players are no different than anyone else with a hobby.

OK.. all that said.. my points I want to mention are:

    1. Most MMORPG players are average people.
    2. A few news stories about someone commiting murder or having a heart attack in association to games makes it the games fault?
    3. There is a REAL economy that directly impacts the in-game economy. Right now, companies like Sony are coming up with in-game auction systems using REAL money. (they want to bring it in game for 2 main reasons a) they can protect their customers from fraud b)they can charge a service fee to make a little extra $$$) Anything involving REAL money tends to increase the focus that a human being will put into that task.
    4. Using online games can actualy be stimulating to the mind. Each game is a new peice of software . Each game provides puzzles and quests that the player must acomplish to succeed.
