"Finally, Gou's company hired the New York firm Burson-Marsteller to help devise a formal public-relations strategy, its first in more than 35 years of existence."

The concept of a company with almost 1M people without a PR strategy is refreshing, but reflecting a little bit more, what that also means is: now anything that we say about the employee suicides, even this, is being carefully managed.

LOL.. So, the most significant way schools distinguish themselves from jail is the decor? This represents a shift in thinking; traditionally, the main difference was that you had to commit a crime to be sent to jail, but you got sent to school for merely existing. Homeschooling: "It's not just for scary religious people anymore."

Sorry, I didn't really clarify: the outrageous claim I'm talking about is that the "the new owner is 3D Realms." 3D Realms is a company that recently cancelled the main project it had under development, laid off most of its staff, and is facing a breach of contract lawsuit from the publisher. I would have a hard time believing an announcement that 3D Realms acquired any company even if it was confirmed in 10 different major newspapers.

When Google started to change from just linking the "Did you mean?" results to actually inserting them in place of the results for what I actually searched for, I realized on some level that this might be appropriate for people who don't know what they're doing and aren't paying attention, and that those people might be in the majority... But I didn't bother mentioning that in my angry feedback. =)

Maybe Google doesn't care about customer feedback because they're not in a position where they have to worry about the quality of the customer experience; if so, I hope they notice when that changes.

  22. Re:64-Bit on Time To Dump XP? · · Score: 1

Driver support for XP x64 is worse than for Win 7 64-bit, but it's not as bad as NT 4 was; I've run XP x64 on three different systems and drivers were always available for the chipset and other onboard hardware as well as video cards from the big 2. What was a problem was the PCI and USB odds and ends that I tend to accumulate, mostly 5-10 years old, for which manufacturer support ended long ago. For most of those, a driver isn't going to come along for either OS. And Windows 7 64-bit has the added penalty that even when 3rd party drivers are available for those devices you have to hack the OS (or choose a special boot menu item on every boot) to use unsigned drivers.

However, software support is another story.
