Does anyone remember that adapted doom game for killing processes??? I bet they could to the same for the robot. Now THAT would be scary.

I am not American, so this stuff doesnt really apply to me. However, I doubt this is a matter of expression with all that DMCA crap. Code does have some form of personal and political expression, but nowhere near as much as a book or song. Even movies are more expressive than code (how ironic isn't it?). The movie industry lawyers could have just said they wanted the right to express their clients view through the film, and "pirating" (
You assassination comparison doesn't really apply here, no matter how much you cry "freedom of speech" at your murder trial they wont listen. Plain and simple, they dont care if its freedom of speech; and that applies in the DeCSS case as well. In my view, saying DeCSS is personal expression is just a coverup. Geeks think that copyright system is old and being abused, but its still there. We are using "freedom of speech" to get what we want because we know any other way won't work. It our only defence in the world of corrupt politicians and sneaky lawyers. Respond all you like saying I am full of shit, but you know its true in your heart. PS: My bad grammar is a result of me not looking over my post, so I suggest you get a life trying to degrade someone because it appears their english is bad.

Sorry to say, Linux/The Open Source Community has no reason to pirate software. When I was using windows I was pirating software (I was only around 14 at the time), but now, I dont need to anymore. I get all the software I need for free, Without pirating! And when I get better at programming I will pitch in to the Communative effort as well. When I spend the little money I have (I am 16 now, btw) its usually on hardware or games. I dont want to spend my hard earned cash on bullshit apps. However, since I dont have to buy as much of my software; I think I would be more enthusiastic about buying something like MSOffice. Well, I am not going to buy any Office program now, but when I get a real job I most likely will have to.

Hmm... The idea of a Microsoft Linux distro is horrifying. The day that happens will be the day I switch to BSD

The thing is, games don't sell because of shitty hardware support. Hardware support has not matured because there are not very many games. Things are progressing however, the Nvidia drivers are coming along nicely but are still nowhere as good as the windows drivers. I think Linux/BSD/Other Unices should all band together with XFree86 and develop a new X protocol that will make all Unices known for being media friendly (as well as a server OS). Of course we would need support from the major graphics hardware companies as well. I am tired of this old GUI design thats been around since the dawn of time. All we need is a port/clone of Windows media player, better graphics/video editing programs, and maybe some 3d modeling programs. I hope in the next couple of years this can be accomplished. Wouldn't it be nice to have an all around free (beer and speech) operating system that appeals to everyone? not just the techies?

I would propose putting this technology into cochroaches and other insects because they are almost impossible to kill off. Insects also dont have much genentic diversity throughout generations. If a meteorite hit the earth and all human life came to an end, chances are that somewhere there will be a cockroach still alive and it holds the map to our race. Roaches have the best chance of carying on our information, short of sending a probe into space, than any other means today.
