My trusty FreeBSD book has a section on this. Some of the points are that
1)FreeBSD aims to be a stable production exnviroment while Linux is more "Bleeding Edge" development enviroment.
2)FreeBSD is still relatively unknown , since its distrobution was restricted for a long time due to the AT&T lawsuits. Linux did not have any lawsuits to contend with. So for a long time it was only free UNIX-type system available
3)As a result of lack of knowledge about FreeBSD not much commercial software is available for it. Linux has a growing amount of commercial software for it.
4)As a result of a smaller user base, FreeBSD is less likely to have drivers for brand-new boards than linux.
some of these points may not help this discussion at all but I sure hope some do
I heard that they will release it the other way around. If you bought the linux version you could download the binaries for the windows but not vica versa.
This is interesting to finally find out when quake3 linux will come out. Too bad I cannot even play the demo. All my opengl games run super slow, like 3 frames a minute (quake3 demo, wolfgl) with my voodoo 2 8 MB and MesaGL. does anyone know what my problem is or how to fix it???
all I need now is a NIC that will 2.4 gigabits, not to mention some splicing tools and a very long cable. I'll be cheesed if it is not hooked up to the internet backbone.
Can you buy just monitor switches? I dont need the keyboard/mouse switching nor can i afford it. If they make them how much? is it possible to make one or alter another type of switch (RS-232)?
Instead of an earthquake in Silicon Valley I would like to see a big ol' quake in Redmond. I could imagine seeing relief funds for grief strikin Microsoft programmers
