Is it? Maybe it is an exaggeration of the way I use computers; but put it this way, I don't turn them my personal machines off unless I have a good reason to; that includes portables.
I only used that example to illustrate that not all cooked iPhone CPUs will be due to jailbreaking or mis-use - and I don't think using things to their manufactured tolerance the whole of their service life is unrealistic, I'd call it getting value for money.
Ok fair point, I'm glad it's not illegal. But imagine this scenario:
The phone is destined to break, because of some heat fault in the CPU that exist anyway.
I jailbreak the phone, the phone dies later on from this problem. I'm in no position to flash back to original firmware before sending it off for repair.
Apple say "the phone died because of the jailbreak". That's why one of my rants mentions the right to run my CPU at 100% for 6 months and expect it not to die (unless I don't provide adequate cooling, but that just complicates the point)
That's the basis for me saying that Jailbreak isn't a solution. It's wonderful, and I admire those who can create such a thing, but it doesn't solve the buyer's problem with Apple's policy regarding lockdown.
"and play Angry Birds" - an unforeseen use for a the locked down device they want me to shup up and put up with, which could never have become popular if not for third parties like GameLoft getting their heads around programming Symbian (yuk! but worth it!) and selling the results "back in the day".

I wish Richard Stallman could turn up and defend my corner on this one - locked down computers are always bad for innovation. I like many things about the iPhone, not least the smooth sexy multi-touch, I would have one by now if I could program for it and distribute my stuff without permission from Apple.
The Jailbreak is not a solution that answers that question. Can I use it to write or download my own programs without missing out on security and stability updates from Apple? No. Does it void my warranty? Yes. Does that go against the principles of sale and ownership, and even trades and descriptions laws? Yes. Does anybody care? No.
I'l tell you what else I don't like. Making a valid (if sarcastic) point about why I don't care about the new iPhone 5, and being told something I already knew, which is not a full (or legal) solution for the problems I mentioned..
I wonder if you'll be able to./configure, make, make install programs written on this small computer? That would make it something worth shouting about...

I often write posts in specific ways leaving openings for trolls, and have fun with myself predicting which trolls (points made, not people) will come and play. When I outed myself to prove I was real, I used (and will continue to use) the worst photos I have in my collection, which were taken when domestically I was at the lowest ebb I've ever been at in my life, living in a bad relationship (more than 2 years ago).
The parent troll was a predictable result of my calculated choices in referring to that profile. Those of you who have brains have since researched the more un-clickable information I have posted since then and before then and know better than to judge me only by that one bit of evidence - it's not even my house, but the trolls flooded in fast and furious! It's not hard to find out, just from postings on/., and by doing google searches (no quotes necessary if you read the right posts) about who I am, why I come here and act the way I do, and how I have, despite all the odds against me due to my background and (lack of!) birthrights lol, succeeded in contributing to and participating in society in a way most people never get chances to.
And I've done it all for myself, without a "help up" or "knowing the right people", but by being intelligent, skilled, bold and yet polite (most of the time). Those people who already know all that are welcome to troll me, too, but I will respect them all much more than this poster for at least using the facts against me rather than using something intended to turn "groupthink" against me, just like a playground "jock", playing on the other children's weaknesses and prejudices... racism, spectacle-wearing, a boy that looks girlish, a girl that looks boyish (YES I GOT IT AT SCHOOL FOR THIS - WHY YOU THINK I'M SO SENSITIVE ABOUT THIS ISSUE???)... you've probably done them all. First of all, regarding TomHudson trolling you - I would if I'd seen what him and everyone else has seen - you trolling anti-virus and anti-malware sites propounding the effectiveness of the HOSTS file in security, the bit that bothers me is that whenever someone challenges your solution to malware you go off the handle. HOSTS is not a particularly effective way to patch all the bugs in Windows, but you seem to think it is. Barbie and others like to point out this fact because they always get a fun flame like the one you just posted.

First of all, regarding TomHudson trolling you - I would if I'd seen what him and everyone else has seen - you trolling anti-virus and anti-malware sites propounding the effectiveness of the HOSTS file in security, the bit that bothers me is that whenever someone challenges your solution to malware you go off the handle. HOSTS is not a particularly effective way to patch all the bugs in Windows, but you seem to think it is. Barbie and others like to point out this fact because they always get a fun flame like the one you just posted.
Gosh, you write so much it's hard to argue, I don't really have much time. As you sarcastically guessed, yes, when I chose that username I was doing web programming - in ASP and SQL back then, and now with PHP and mySQL. It should be noted that I used C and Pascal long before I touched Microsoft's snake...
As for your work, well I've seen the back-end at McD's in the UK and it's scruffy and unstable. You work is all really diverse and untracable, like so-and-so mag 1992. Like that's relevent. If you weren't a know stalker, I'd give you what you need to find out how well ranked the sites I have are, but that woud probably slashdot my servers and idiots like you would probably ring the company and create trouble for me.
I came on here to rant to be honest, but I'm not biting your woman-hating crap, I can see why TomHudson winds you up, you ask for it. Your computer security knowledge is not all that, I've seen your HOSTS crapflood myself - you go on forums and tell them they don't need the software they've written themselves!
Even if you are correct about TomHudson you are only making things worse for the both of you. Why not answer the points about the host file?
Why not acknowledge, and stop lying about this, that I've already given you a link to TomHudson's code in the parent?

I hate to tell you this, APK, but I've been following this particular trolling phenomenon for quite some time now and it seems like TomHudson is the respected, mature IT contractor and you are a trolling script-kiddie, and if you're not that then you're a damn VB Power User!
It's one or the other, so why don't you just stop the troll? The issues involved are so small to both TomHudson and the rest of us, were SICK TO FUCKING DEATH of you God-Damn HOSTS file BULLSHIT!
Most of us could write something which confounds the hell out of you in a few hours, but we're just too damn busy, and we only come across your posts in our free time so can only be bothered with an emotional, ie ranting response rather than a practical one, so no don't bother asking me for code either.
