    You mean like the Nexus Range or Android perhaps the most disruptive consumer devices today. Although its list of successful products is legendary.

    I so hope thy have this right this time. Powerful, Vanilla Nexus TV to show those cheap Android TV how its done. Hell look at those ports (not enough last time), and put in a killer chip this time. For god sake have some kind of plan for software...and please please think about the price. I bought an Ouya sight unseen, this I know is a better device, but that does not mean I am willing to pay three times the cost.

    I's argue it was never released(it was essentially a gift to early adopters)...and for some fairly obvious reasons. The price was high for a an arm box however many leds you have on it, when Rasberry Pi, Ouya, Android TV can be had for peanuts, and it had no real purpose...mystery media box.

    It was pulled early, and it was the right choice, in a manner respectful of customers. Google earned good Public relations from this from it.

    The product offerings from Microsoft are vastly superior in every way.

    There have been rumours of a xbox-without console functionality...we will call it an xbox live device, which would have been an incredible device a few years ago, but today with smart TV, AndroidTV and AppleTV (The non-fictional product), all available for a few dollars.

    Ironically in context of your comment right now their is a massive rush in Android gaming from a company willing to Nurture it if Google is going to continue its support. The xbox itselfs future is threatened however good it is.

    Here is the the tegra 4 (4+1 core) clocked at 1.9Ghz and 2.3GHz respectively...but again that is not really my point the threat is the Allwinner...or the next generation Allwinner.

    A cosmetic change to the start menu does not change that any more than the superbar in Windows 7 did.

    I notice this new lie, about the start menu. Its just that a lie. The problem with Windows 8 is that it resembles an embedded OS on locked hardware not a Disk based OS on General Purpose Hardware...and compared poorly to Android and iOS. The problem is metro...the problem is Windows RT.

    Sorry to break this to you, but the lowest end Intel CPU is powerful enough to emulate the highest end ARM CPU

    Its not true ARM chipsets are faster than atom chipsets...and even if they weren't you need a 12x speed in power. The bottom line though is what people need is CPU's cheap, fast enough (for smartphone apps) vs power consumption (at least a day maybe two). The problem till now is Intel didn't have a CPU suitable for mobile...now they do (have for a while), but they are still expensive(because they insist on ludicrous margins...and its helping kill the PC industry), and in comparisons worse than the opposition.

    Apples and oranges. I wish idiots like you would stop trying to compare a telephone "OS" to an actual, real PC OS.

    Then Windows 8 should have been a real operating system instead of a tablet one (on machines with lower DPI and less portable), because everyone right now is choosing Android over Windows. Its very much an Oranges vs Oranges comparison (Apple priced themselves out of every market), and its what Microsoft wanted...pushed even with its self styled Ecosystem at least they will make a Billions from the shop :).

    Android and Chrome head Sundar Pichai has just revealed that Android has passed the milestone of 900 million activations, up from 400 million in 2012 and 100 million in 2011 (to put that in some perspective Windows Installs is about 1.2Billion). Its an incredibly popular OS that people want, on devices people want. The same is not true for the current version on Windows with its new tablet interface, on current PC's, Which is damaging the whole PC industry....and in context of this article why intel wants to be part of this growing wave of devices.

    When Ubuntu introduced Unity I switched to Linux Mint and haven't looked back.

    I'm actually running Ubuntu with Cinnamon installed (I would be running Mint if it wasn't for the delay between their respective releases) . Its kind of sad that Mints main benefit (since Debian rolling releases stopped) is that its everything you like about Ubuntu....great support; almost cutting edge, with backported fixes for stability(although not as Stable as Debian...but that is not cutting edge) with some sensible defaults...because it is basically ubuntu.

    Hell I quite like the fact that canonical tried to make Ubuntu pretty (and fast).But the move towards recreating elements rather than *selecting* popular ones (Mer seriously) like say Cinnamon, is going to hurt them. I hope they have success with the phone...where I think Unity (and all the other garbage...like a new package manager) might be a better fit.

    So yeah not obligatory...I'm using it with Cinnamon now, and accept Mints roots when I use that (and Debians)

    Not is someone could go about producing a rolling (cutiing edge) Debian release (with an enormous rescue me button) then I would look forward to it.

    Actually Apple are pretty good, they post figures for in there financial statements in a nice table every year for hardware. Ignoring the fact that they claim a sale when it is a shipped product. In reality they don't really produce anything apart from a narrow range of electronics devices.

    Microsoft do all kinds of things from raising prices; selling in bulk to OEM's, but since they are a monopoly. The real figures are in hard drive companies failing...Dell this week announced further bad move, but on the whole they trumpet success(normally when it hits a significant figure)...and hide failure.

    but nothing, you might not like the figures which even with accounting for windows dressings are enormous(390 Million active users).

    According to Internet analytics firm GlobalWebIndex it can boast 359Million active users (not far of Goggles announcement) up 33% from 269 at the end of June 2012.     Google would assume that certain shots are "special" is that it happens to have the capability to identify certain locations, so OBVIOUSLY those would matter. Right? No, not at all.

    What the automanagement of photos by giving them appropriate tags? The arrogance, and remember this is just one of 41 new features, including auto gif creation, or stick together pics to make a panorama.

    Google will NEVER sell data of its customers...not because of any moral code, but because it is simply not profitable. They sell *targeted* advertising space on services offered for free, Like TV...or newspapers. Its why Google make Billions.

    No market share means just that market share. If you want to express a number meaning % of the market irrespective of the size of the market you would use that. In this instance its the perfect metric.

    Sounds like Amazon's monopoly was broken. What's the problem with that again?

    Amazon gained its market share by competing on price, Apple got forming a cartel with publishers using price-fixing.

    The bottom line is non-apple customers are being hurt by this, including children.

    Yeah it kind of does. Ignoring the fact that this is also about protecting education...and history has taught us how important that is, and well books are kind of a big deal from a political perspective..from an information perspective...its why people want to burn them. This is an open attack on capitalism, and on the consumer by Apple which needs an immediate ban on Apple products. Books are precious

    It is not only important, but Apple employees need to start being Jailed starting with the board.
