    so Samsung didn't fight Apple? Apple isn't bigger than Microsoft? you think Samsung actually has a dependence on Microsoft? Windows PCs are a comparatively tiny part of Samsung's profits, Microsoft has no leverage over Samsung.

    Reread my comment its on the money. Samsung simply fought Apple because apple threatened its lucrative revenue stream...Android Phones. Samsung negotiated with Microsoft...because it could be bought off with few windows licenses and a slapping Windows Phone on one of its models.

    So yeah irrelevant questions [and silly and...just plain wrong]. If your question had been what gets Samsung stuffing more dollars in its g-string?

    If the patents are invalid then why would any company pay?
    It's not size: Samsung fought Apple and Apple is much larger than Microsoft.
    It's not dependence: Microsoft depends on Samsung more than the other way around

    Except those things aren't true, Apple wanted Samsung Phones banned from being sold...or worse to produce Windows Phones, While Microsoft simply wants to make Android less attractive to manufacturers of Android products.

    The bottom line is the whole thing is about *cost* we suspect Samsungs Price involved buying Windows licenses [as Samsung is dependent on one supplier for its OS :)] for their PC hardware and producing a Windows Phone, instead of actual money,

    Ironically Windows 8 could very well be the result of Predictions, on what is successful, when you have Android overtaking Windows as being the dominant OS, taking *the selling features* without looking at *consistency* is just the kind of mistake this kind of analysis can create.

    Its not though, its simply a method of forcing its entrenched developers, to develop mobile Applications in Windows...and force monopoly on a Desktop into a sizeable mobile marketshare if you add them together with an ill thought out hybrid device that maybe will blossom into a half useful Android tablet with a keyboard [they call the whole misguided thing an ecosystem] after they lost early entry to market [laughably by not being able to respond to market trends...things forecasting and predictions are all about]

    The Microsoft Tax, is about patents...mainly those that concern interfacing with Windows Computers/Services, Microsoft Bully Boys are going to be knocking on your door whatever OS you choose. Although considering these companies are already heavily involved (and successful) with android its unlikely they are not prepared for Microsoft.

    It was a serious survey from a respected research firm "320,000 mobile and tablet users in six countries, including the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan and Indonesia, about how satisfied they were with their device." I am sorry you don't like the results, but they are unsurprising.

    I know you love Apple but right now Apple need compelling products, priced competitively not fanatics spreading lies. It simply tarnishes the Apple brand more, and its been damaged enough just lately.

    HTC is the only company who sells Android phones that I'd consider buying. Too bad Android apparently has issues with security updates / etc. Sure, blame the vendor... But this seems to be a prevalent problem with Android based phones.

    Lets have a little look at security on the iPhone...hmmm you can just fiddle with the power button and making an emergency call then immediately hang up, and it bypasses the passcode.

    Perhaps you would have been better with a HTC phone after all ;)

    If the project team has multiple projects, and its fixed costs can be shared amongst them great, if they manage to produce the final product below the cost of production great...that is profit its what kickstarter is about.

    If you truly believe they are being dishonest [I personally believe what they are doing is a great idea] then to undercut them, is trivial.

    I'm a little concerned that your talking about congress [they have one source of income you] and funding unrelated projects [hey they have multiple kickstarters]. Its you that looking dishonest.

    There are quite a few serious potential pitfalls from running simultaneous projects at once for a small team, but you are not highlighting them simply demonising them.

    So half of your money won't even go to the project!

    That is not a scam that is business model [in fact its most business models]. My favourite example of this is Apple make no iPhones...not one; zero; zilch; nada. They get about 40% Net profit on their phones....Foxconn who do the building make 2% profit.

    The reality is if they are not dependent on one stream of revenue...both projects are more likely to succeed.

    I really quite like this project, but love the use [not overuse] of emotions I am actually quite taken with the example Emoji, the examples are all based on a circle [for a simple face] its true, but if you look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoji which covers Tansport/Maps/Symbols and Pictographs. I'm confident I could do a smiley face...but a Pine Decoration or Trumpet not so much. Personally I'd love this project this project to succeed simply because it contains the symbols hot beverage & shortcake.

    If you want it to be 'free', then just BSD license it (MIT is fine since its in your list) and fucking stop.

    Multi-license crap is only for when you're trying to deal with some retarded license like GPL and its purpose built anti-compatibility/virus license being included in your project.

    How about you stop quoting Fear and Doubt, over a license that does not directly benefit your preferred mega-corporation. Its kind of sad. I'm glad BSD rescued Apple I do, but seriously its depressing, we all know why Apple choose BSD for their limited [often one way takes] from open source projects. The reality is GPL was designed to protect itself from the very abuse of the license you want, and I for one am grateful for that. Seriously Apple has enough cash, seriously there is no need for subterfuge any more.

Which as I see it is the https://www.sdcard.org/ SD Association and includes [Canon Inc., Cardwave Services Limited, Giesecke & Devrient, Hewlett Packard, Kingston Technology, Lexar, Motorola Mobility, Panasonic, Phison, Samsung Electronics, SanDisk Corporation, Silicon Motion, Inc. and Toshiba...yeah] everybody who makes a SD Cards , as a successor to SDHC cards SDXC have chosen to use exFAT as replacement for FAT...and anyone who used those cards has to pay Microsoft royalties.

    Except we do in the case of Apple *endlessly* Its not just been big news here, but in every damn newspaper worldwide. In fact very little is said of Evil Microsoft(sic) shady deals which are in the main back room affairs "While the contents of the agreement will not be disclosed" , with it being spin as a joyful agreement "Microsoft and Nikon have a long history of collaboration".

    Perhaps if your not happy you could register and submit stories you feel more worthwhile, rather than attack a community.

    No wrong. I am tired of closed being the new open , and well closed being the new open [Thank you Ars]. Android is an a modular OS where various parts are under different licenses GPL2 (Linux the Kernel) most of the userland (Apache which is why Honeycomb never got released) and proprietary (most first party Applications) with various stuff happening in the cloud (maps; various storage; mail)...and nothing has changed.

    Android does not protect you from patent trolls like Microsoft, but then it never did or claimed to...your choices have always been, work around the patents; pay them off; fight them in courts.

    In short though this topic has nothing to do with being open...and unless your a Tizen fanboi your just trolling [lets face it iOS and Bada the only serious contenders are closed], with an off-topic comment, now if you has said "But Android is still free [beer]?" you would have least been on topic...still a troll...but on topic.
