    Worse than that. Depending on the sales model, publishers may get less money from an electronic book

    To put your figures in some kind of perspective as to who out of step they are. Authors used to get between 10-15% royalty through tradition means. They now expect 50%...but are generally offered 25% *forever*. It looks pretty awful for authors.

    No this is simply capitalism, Amazon became the dominant player in the book market, by being early and cheap. That said I agree with the lawsuit that late to market should not be a barrier entry...especially when we are talking about glorified; infinity reproducible text files, and using *standards* to prevent lock-in is an excellent way, as Monopolies are really bad for capitalism.

I love the quote from the article on this "a move that was widely seen as benefiting Amazon's dominant position among ebook retailers"..clearly not the best understanding that, the move would simply shift the scale to Apple, and making it impossible for independent vendors to compete on price.

    I actually agree with the reality that books need to be transferable [and films, magazines...oh and Applications hell anything stored on a computer with a price tag attached.]...so that the better technology competes. In fact lets go further I see no reason at all why you can't have multiple store fronts on every device you own...like say Android :)

    Like more Linux games [Like it needs anymore]. Sony have been talking about using the Playstation brand more. Opening a cross platform shop could bring *more* money to sony. I would love a playstation certified PC :)

    ...because it was X86. I wouldn't now I bought a OUYA. The truth is I booted the XBMC on the rasberry pi, and the memories came flooding back.

    The reality is the homebrew scene only possible because of its cheap PC internals gave the xbox a serious push.

As for the whole Linux thing, they should have been rewarded for doing so, and got the tax breaks associated with it. They didn't it got removed.     The reality is Sony is by mega-corporations standards pretty good. Personally though I bought an OUYA as I believe in supporting companies, who release hardware that you *own*

    I wonder if google is going to chase me. I use that exact method for log file expiration in a program I wrote back in 1998 for scanning configurations across servers, From memory I also got the code for doing that from someone elses web site that had posted the sample. the log files are written to dated folders according to how long I needed to keep a record for of the specific scan being executed.

    I doubt it, as the use case is completely different, you *manually selected what to delete" on log files on criteria you created, As opposed to Google who indicate a file is *temporary* by appending a file suffix/ changing a bit/ Mimetype, and then deleting it when...

    I make no claims to the validity of the the data, but the example given and the patent are different. The IBM 360 example is about *preserving files* by affording them additional protection, as opposed to the Google patent which is about *deleting* temporary files through adding a "time to live" value actiuallin in the directory/filename with various ways of cleaning out these files, as well as an *additional* indicator that it is a tempory file.

    ...but considering the patent is 26 pages long, if could be for walrus toothbrushes....and who the hell quotes from a book, and then posts a link to the whole book!

    re-read your post it tries to justify a cheap, slow, memory shy, low resolution, second rate software iPhone...and justify against the flagship HTC phone. That is not going to happen, not here. The only response is that Apple is going to step up, and in four months is going to have a response of killer updated software...and hardware, and it is more than capable [at least foxconn is]. Want to see how to respond watch Samsung and its Galaxy launch...although personally I want to see the Xphone from Motorola....on topic we are going to see another 10 companies produce flagship phones. Although under the circumstances perhaps I need the sony xperia z as that is waterproof.

    Lower res pictures with bigger pixels? That sounds more like "we've put in a lower resolution camera, and that's better".

    No its about being able to see detail in a photo, by being able to record those differences. So pictures don't look washed out or black without being able to make out detail.

    The revamped one includes a Infrared remote control...and its not mentioned in the summary. I know those who had the n900 had this functionality, but Nokia hardware seems to have taken any advantages they have, and sacrificed it for Microsoft. So its nice to see this feature come back. Hopefully we are going to see some nice software to back this up.

    ...now we just have to wait for the radio transmitter, a function I used a lot on the n900.

    Getting one phone out on a lot of carriers is a good move, but lets see if they can keep up with updates. So far HTC phones have been some of the worst at getting updated.

    Is the bootloader unlocked? Is S-off easy to obtain?

    Why should take off? What's the drive behind it? What need does it satisfy?

    I sold medical hardware through the web using a 3rd party plug-in 10 years ago, and it was wow. Here is a small list
    Education - Planetary Systems, Engines, Inside Human Body
    Lets Break out of 2D - Streetview 3D...or walk where it is unsafe...Warzones, Mars...or even oil rigs safety training ....or lets face it the only really one. SHOPPING, no more multiple static views of item.

    As I said I did this years ago for a company, it looked great, but it was a clunky implementation.

    First you don't run professional applications on Android, only consumer stuff. Second, Android is not really Linux and Android applications do not run on pure Linux.

    There is no first, there was, an Abusive monopoly...and now its still just a less valuable one, as applications go cross platform. Your arguments are kind of out of date. Applications aren't Microsoft exclusives...and those that are have less value. Microsofts OS is some kind of tablet/destop hybrid nightmare I want nothing to do with...and don't have to, Alternatives are here and more popular, and however you try to spin in the Linux in Android is the same Linux[ish] as the Linux in...Ubuntu.

    They are like the kid who cheats in class by looking over the smart kid's shoulder. First it was Yahoo!, then it was Keyhole, Android, YouTube (until they bought them) they tried to copy Facebook, Office, etc...

    I think you need to keep up. Apple copied the mp3 player; microsoft copied the console; Facebook copied the phone; Amazon copied the tablet. etc etc. Maybe its not copying at all, but large mega-corporations entering related established markets with near monopoly status, and high barriers of entry [lots and lots of cash], and sometimes its works out really well product.

    Ok sorry for ignoring your post. It was better when I reread it. The reality is if you argue that the smartphone market is simply the *phone* market as dumbphones are replaced by smartphones. The your right Apple are still growing market share of that pie. Its a weird way of looking at it.

    So lets have a look at some current figures for that. http://www.gartner.com/newsroom/id/2335616 Now here is the thing..conversion rate Android grew 20% to 70% while iOS lost 2% to 20%. It shows how Apples expansion is slowing, While Android is exploding.

    Now your saying they don't matter because they are $80 phones...the average selling price is $150, are you really saying Apple cannot produce a profitable phone at $150...or even one at $80. The reality is Apple have priced themselves out of the world market...and its hurting them, and market share matters.
