i'm sure we're more than capiable than effecting the atmosphere. we're more than able to ruin our own country, other countries, the ecology system all in the name of progress and profits.
ruining the atmosphere is a piece of cake. of course technoly may fix it. all we have to do is
bio-enineer new skin and food to eat so we can live in the new and improved world.
oh, and just becuase cows and volcanos fart doesn't mean that we farting too isn't a bad thing.
the model that'll come with it is the one with the built in camera and weights 2.2lbs. yes, it does have a winmodem. i love my vaio. the only thing that was missing was a eth0 port, so i had to buy a pcmcia card. they're small and light and people love to see them.
i was at a cafe and someone pointed over to my notebook and started a conversation with the lady next to him. geezus, my vaio is so sexy, other people are using it to get dates!
hey, maybe they'll make some nice boxes! imagine the webTV boxes with infrared but controlled with Linux. it'll only be a matter of time before someone modifies it so we can have those cheap beowolf clusters that everyone talks about (does anyone actually have one?).
of course, we would have to get rid of thos AOL logos.
right now that's true, but debian is more of a concept for an OS than just linux. here's from the home page of debian:
Debian is a free operating system (OS) for your computer. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. At the core of an operating system is the kernel. The kernel is the most fundamental program on the computer, does all the basic housekeeping and lets you start other programs. Debian is kernel independent. It currently uses the Linux kernel but work is in progress to provide Debian for other kernels, using the Hurd.
i tried debian with the win2K kernel but vi on the comand prompt just isn't the same.

OS X is a combination of some good things. it's seems usuable and configurable. they're working on it to be easy to use and will have really good hareware support.
linux is small, light and growing to be better and better. right now, it's a good server OS and i use it often on my VAIO when i want to do something than browse the web and play my games.
it's still not a NextStep on a Mac. it may be one day, but right now it's not. while it's not, i don't see why i wouldn't want to use the MacOS X.
if i can use one OS and play my games and still use all my favorite Open Source products and learn then i'll be one happy man. Xfree86 4 isn't ready, KDE and GNOME are just one more layer ontop of an OS.
i don't see anything wrong with OS X. so why shouldn't i use it? not that i will stop using linux, it has lots of good things about it too.

i'll be one to agree. you get real plug and play, good hardware support(firewire anyone?), a standard setup (no debian OS X or redhat OS X), easy installation, SMP support, a GUI that more people can understand, great cut and paste, you're not using windows, you can install your favorite Open Source Software.
still, it's really nothing new. the only new OS out there is the BeOS. that's revolutionary, it's not NextStep part II.
linux isn't there yet, but it can be, people can make it be. it can sidestep, dodge and not run forward into bullets. the progess of this OS is amazing and it can let curious geeks that can not afford the $$ have something they can play with and take apart. it will run on my vaio. =)
linux will get many enhancements when SGI finishes with it. it too can be a multimedia OS like the MacOS. so don't count it out yet. the power of linux is that you can make it whatever you want it to be, we just need to stop fighting windows to do it.
the TCP stack under freeBSD is GPL-ed? really?
that somehow doesn't make any sense to me. i assumed the BSD folks would prefer the BSD license .
if someone knows for certain, please post. it'll be really interesting if it is GPL-ed. everyone pretty much is using the BSD stack, which wouldn't make any sense if it's GPL-ed becuase corporations wouldn't be into it.
maybe they'll just use it for there geek diet budget. i don't know if anyone has ever bought these guys any food for there efforts.
thank god for debian, the stable release may not be out as fast as the other distro, but the when it's out, it'll be damn stable. unlike some of the other software producers( *cough*windowsNT*cough*).
when the thought that counts, get something else. for some quality, get debian or slackware. =)
Currently, IBM makes Transmeta's chips. This arrangement gives Transmeta access to cutting-edge technology and immunizes the company from legal action from Intel because of IBM's extensive cross-license with the chip giant. However, IBM charges more than the Taiwanese foundries, leading to more expensive chips.
"Transmeta wanted to work with IBM to make sure there were no questions about legal issues with Intel," said Linley Gwennap, principal analyst at The Linley Group. "Over time, I think they will look to other foundries."
basically it seems like a good idea that they work with IBM so that in case INTEL wanted to sue, they would have a hard time doing so.
but i just skimmed the article, so i can be wrong.
according to the graphs from tom's hardware, for applications the equivalent speed chips are very smiliar. for games, you have to over clock it 100Mhz more for the K6 to catch up with the celeron. yuck.
i wish there was a chart for the K6-III+. these are the chips that will be the celeron notebook killers. well, i guess there's the durons.
of course, i'd only get one if it came in a vaio or affordable thinkpad.
it's been awhile since i've had to think about this. if only i can find my last core dump. the K7s are comparable or better than the Pentium III. that's all you have to know. at least, that's all the marketing i'm giving.
... maybe you can englighten me with how long it takes for a 1 Ghz Pentium III to complete Seti@home, running whichever GUI, as long as its not command line.
but wait! maybe they'll be a command line version for it for OS X!
as for your question of why an 8 year speaker of english speaks better an a native american -- it's becuase we don't rely on it for capitalism and we're all too fat.
the iMac without the DVD for $800 is such a good price. it just means more people can afford to get a computer, which i think is a good thing. they have more of an option than before. otherwise they would have to get a celeron from HP or packard bell (eek).
now everyone can be online and make websites; this will be good so that more HTML-ers will flood the market. we can then concentrate on better things.
for a lot of people, they don't need more than an entry unit. many parents will buy the higher end systems becuase they want to browse the web and let there children play games. if they didn't have kids, they wouldn't need the higher end systems.
well, compared with what we have for home users *today*, it's a huge change. this whole package should have been out *10 years* ago and we should have moved on with our technology but we lost to marketing...
now there will a computer that has power, elegance for everyone. i can now tell everyone LINUX_HATER to shut up and get a Mac. the more people using macs, the less people to be aware of linux so that the geeks that like to play with the internals of the OS will be left in peace.
now you can use a mac, what else can you do? play HALO on an x-box? yeah right.
after reading slashdot and all the opinions about open source, the GPL and user friendliness, i've forgotten why i like linux in the first place. it seems everything is scattered all over the place and linux has become just another idol.
so what if star office is GPL? so what if it's coming from sun? the whole point is that it's a tool and we can use it. it has code we'll be able to see and we can fix it. WE, not them.
if sun benefits from us, so be it. we get the code and we use it to help us make better tools. that's what i'm using open source for. to learn and get a hold of my system.
well, it looks like you'll be happy when Mac OS X comes out. all the gui you can eat with modern utensils (firewire, blah, blah, blah).
but i like the command line. it can be useful and extremely quick. like when you need to overwrite your/etc/passwd file real quick, find what's at the end of a document, DOS attack someone's computer.
you know what really sucks is we can't assume what you're thinking or doing. that takes all the fun out of it. i mean, if you weren't a damn geek, we could poke fun at you all day. we could call you a monster and a traiter or even a java lover.
but no, you have to express your opinion and debunk our myths and speculations.
in some respects, it pays my bills. i use open source software to help me work. when work gets done, i get paid.
most of the projects out there are done becuase the authors needed it, not becuase the author wanted to make money out of it.
they write what they need, they gain information and with that information, they make money out of it. people like to hire smart people with information.
java is slow becuase it's not a low level language as C. but that can be compensated with an Athlon 1000Mhz; you'll get plenty of java speed.
of course, some JVMs are faster than others but sooner than later, java speed won't be that much of an issue.
i remember when people weren't happy with perl cgi performance. C coders often complain that it's just not as fast as C, but if you don't notice the speed difference, then it doesn't matter.

anyway, since linux doesn't get me any dates, i'll just have to get a personality. i hear it women like that (and that fact that you're pre-IPO).
