so people can go see the source code and change it to work the way they want it to. GREAT!!
so everyone will be cheating! this will destroy the quake 1 culture but if those little brats want to do that, then let them. they now have that right. we then just laugh at them and point at all the losers that cheat. there is no honor in cheating.
the lessons of cuase and effect must be learned by people. if you screw up the game, then the game becomes meaningless. then POOF, you devalued the game and yourself.
once this happens, they'll only be a small group of trusted players, they will do what's needed to check and validate real players.
i don't see this being a big problem. life isn't fair and people will abuse you. you won't stop them, you'll just have to work around them.
Microsoft is only doing it for money. They need to do it becuase everyone else sees the importance of linux. They're not blind and will do everything they can to stay on top. Even if that means sleeping with the enemy.
VA and REDHAT on the other hand, don't need to post job openings, because they seem to be hiring already established Open Source developers and giving them some money to live on why they code stuff that they're interested in.
everyone wants to make money, what matters more is how much they contribute back. until MS-Tyrant, change and contribute like IBM has and SGI moving towards it, then i still would side with the anti-MS people.
the Linux People are putting money back into the economy, creating not so much new techonlogy but a different way of making money and software and saving the world.
i mean, thanks to linux, i have a job at good rates and wouldn't have liked it as much if i had to fix problems with NT being the only cheap solution (of course there's always FreeBSD).
there's more linux users, so they'll be more bitching going on.
If they can put up with Windows as the desktop then what's wrong with having to put up with Linux moving towards being something for the destop too?
Linux users are dreaming of not having to use windows ever again. this isn't a bad dream. sometimes it gets in the way of reality. but when someone suggests using linux for something that the MacOS or another OS can do better (like most media stuff) then that's just plain wrong. but i've always seen people correct what appears to be bad advice.
as a community, i've seen some good people do the check and balances that keeps the community healthy. it won't always be successful, since there are TONS of linux users today. but this doesn't make the whole "linuxers" a bad group.
it'll be a good JVM only it'll be ported by the blackdown team and then given to sun to claim as there own with an imprise JIT.
the only way to go is with IBM. i wish IBM was working with blackdown.
i wish sun acted better with java (TM). this action demonstrates to me how heartless they are. there's something so classless and wrong about using blackdown to port, taking there code and not hinting in the release that blackdown had anything to do with it. at least they left all the credits for the developers in.
for now, i'll be using the blackdown port. it's the same as sun's port, except with better threading.
they can't sue everyone, but i'm sure they'll try.
first you sue, then you run out of money. next we OPEN the standard.
trying to stop piracy is pretty silly. there's only a number of people who are fighting MP3 piracy versus a whole world of hackers and music enthuists who'd keep it free.
guess who's going to have more time on there hands? plus, guess which one of them enjoys listening to MP3s more?
screw the RIAA, they don't cherish the artists as much as we do.
i've found sendmail easy to configure. there's great info at sendmail.org and in my debian distro, i just add a few lines to the.mc file and type make.
qmail is suppose to be faster though.
if it aint broke, i'm not fixing it.
someone had a sig that explained it all
on
Geeks vs. Nerds
·
· Score: 1
i think the sig said something like nerds are people who play with technology but geeks enjoy it. makes sense to me.
debian isn't ready... debian is taking too long... i wanna skipped to slackware...
whine.. whine.. whine... ooh woo-ish me, someone hold my hand.
go freaking use what you want. everyone is aware of the time frame that debian is taking. it's taking *TIME* to get a good distribution. all the other distro are *companies* so they have full time employees to make new version of there distributions and guest what, THEY FREAKING SUCKS sometimes. anyone use REDHAT 5.0? i liked it when 5.2 came out. look at slackware, that took a very LONG TIME and slackware is a labor of someone's love.
i'm using debian, i'm using potatoe and it's what's called "cutting edge".
~/ "you get hit and your mind goes ping" --rocky horror
so if you don't use a packaging sytem there's no rot? the package system in debian dosen't hamper you at all. i've strayed from it in a few ocassions and it doesn't hurt me. the only things i've ever compiled is the kernel, apache, php, mysql and wmaker. i shouldn't have done wmaker, but i just wanted to. not that i needed to do it for apache or the rest too. =)
ugh. i wish it wasn't so slow. who left all the debugging code ? j/k i've tried all the previous releases and they just didn't cut it for me. maybe becuase i was using it on windows. =) all this bad press made me wanted to check out what the current state of the browser is. is it really that bad? it seems to work fine on my debian box. then again, netscape hasn't crashed on me either... i don't know what all the fuss is about. it all seems more political than what the codebase deserves. the browser is free and you don't have to buy windows to use it!
the whole point is for us to be able to play DVD, but since we know how to play DVDs, we could also copy it. ; )

i've been spreading out the word to as many people who'd listen to me.
i've gotten a few people to email etoys's webmaster. anyone know of a better email?

good luck putting banner ads on my Open Source browser.
i'm happy my OS comes with a compiler.
well, it'll be my browser when it's out.
for now, communicator 4.7 isn't bad.
the CEO doesn't even know if the criminal used information from cookies to get his CC#.
it could have been a clerk at a retail store.
it could have been me sleeping with his secretary whom happened to have his CC#.
the discussion should be about how this CEO feels that his customers are so low on the brain cells to believe his hype.
the only good thing from the article is the ad for xcam on the lower left hand corner. yummy.
it's debian compliant. ; )

now, i'll finally get rid of my last ISA card!
now all i need is for XFREE 4 to come out and i'll have a happy machine.
now if i can only get my tv card to work, then i can finally put together that MP3/TV system.
3d screensavers and sound is all you need in life, right?
