Again, I think the debate here is skewed by the range of different types of roads and traffic we experience daily. Rural roads and highways are not much of an issue, as interstates are not either.
I should of said that being in Florida, everyone drives like it is a NASCAR race, feel the need to draft, needlessly swing wide before turns, and letting anyone in in front of them is regarded as "losing". Any use of the horn makes another driver rage at you (swerve at you, get in front of you and brake, etc.), even if you saving them from hitting you.
The law assumes it is always the safest option, but that also assumes everyone around you is following the law. If a car behind you is illegally on your ass, regardless of fault, I'd rather avoid a collision altogether and roll through an amber or "orange" light rather than a jackass in a laughatrice.com special rear-end my car. They were probably trying to tail you in order to run a red as they always do.
I fully agree there is 99.9999999% of the time no reason to run a Red. But one can't deny that there is that rare moment, where it may actually be a safer option.
I am not disagreeing with you. All of this talk assumes that we are on a nice leisurely road. When you start thinking about 8-lane highway with traffic lights every few blocks and dense traffic. You could slow down all you want, but if leave more than one car length of space, someone is getting in in it. Now try changing lanes and keep any sort of appropriate distance. It is impossible to keep any proper following distance (by the book) in front of you for much longer than a few seconds, bad weather or not.
One of the problems is that Amber lights to not lengthen for the conditions either. Even my home irrigation system has a rain sensor, why can't traffic signals? So what happens is that during a light rain and you get oily slick roads. A driver in their newer car that has ABS stops quickly to avoid a ticket. The car behind may or may not have ABS.
If you have ever driven a car without ABS on slick roads, you know stopping short is not an option. Typically rolling through an intersection is an option because you know there is no way to stop. The spacing you would need to allow for safety leaves room for all the other vehicles to get in front of you anyway. Vehicles changing lanes usually do not respect the fact you are trying to keep your distance.
When conditions are bad, I always keep in mind what is behind me, If there is an older car or 18-wheeler, I will move elsewhere. If I cannot, you better believe I will not stop short for a red light.
It didn't leak out, it evaporated. The spent fuel is a heat source worth around a million watts or so.
A million watts? Why can't this "spent" fuel be used as an energy source?
Not efficiently enough to produce power. Not only do you need to make steam, it needs to done quickly for a turbine to run off of it. Theres a difference in boiling water at sea level pressure 212 degrees vs 700+.
Compared to what most of us consider in everyday life hot... yeah they are hot as can be. In nuclear power generating terms, not hot enough. Using spent fuel in a reactor would be like using a SmartCar engine to power a tractor trailer. It'll move, just not with any sort of useful speed or power.
Spent rods can be recycled to enrich the available remaining fuel into a new fuel rod. That is what Reactor 3 is using and is why it has plutonium in it too.
Sometimes even bad ideas need to be patented. Apple patents an awful amount of stuff that really will never exist. I think that this is one of them. If it does, it may not be for a jailbreak situation.
File this under... can do, shouldn't do, won't do....... but no else can - or pay up.
Nice Idea... so now most women will pay less than men in airfare. Just another way the average male will get screwed.
Anyone with an eating disorder will now have more reason to continue to do so. (es, such a great idea tell an anorexic girl to get on a scale at an airport. Those people already starve to near death afraid of a private scale at home. Imagine what the thought of getting on one in public next week would do.
Next we will want a little person flight crew to save on $$$$.
Whats next, a photographer who charges extra depending on a hot or not scale?
Microsoft is not even challenging the most popular of the iPod lineup. Seeing that the iPod nano is the most popular of the iPod lineup (even without video).... how exactly is the Zune an iPod killer? The Zune is not a killer to anything until MS has a device to challenge the tiny iPod Nano and iPod Shuffle. One device is not going to "kill" iPod, or even hurt it.
Why not require a EULA or other notice to be presented...by law.. for every program being installed. If a program created by another company is bundled, it would require another acknowledgement. That way if a spyware program is found, you can go after the company who made the primary software that did not provide the notification. Or... Instead of an EULA which can be cryptic already...The law can require a standard dialog box asking for authorization for each bundled program. The format would be required to stay the same on all platforms. Kinda like the "Nutrition Facts" labels on food containers now. Doesn't matter if you are on Linux, OS X, Windows, or whatever...the dialog box would be the same.
With Soyuz as you say "Plan C": I figure the emergency Soyuz could return 3 of them immediately to relieve strain on the life support supplies. The 4 remaining could be returned on an Atlantis mission or after they sort out an in orbit repair of Discovery (if its possible). If additional repair supplies are needed or other supplies...a progress supply could be sent as well.
Just some more ideas. But it all comes down to the most effective option is to send another shuttle. Even then you cant return all 7 at once...9 would have to come back. Either way 2 flights are required. The shuttle requires 2 and can only add 5 more...unless they thought of that already.
Also you could send a Soyuz capsule or two (one at at a time...limited docking ports) up to bring them back. In addition there is a capsule up there for an emergency return situation (ISS crew)already isn't there? You would just have to replace it later.
Why does everything in the world need to be sold separate?
Now I should sue the Record Labels for not maintaining a choice of media of every album they sell.... they are unfairly shutting out those who still like and use 8-tracks.
While I don't agree with everything Apple does, in this case Apple is not doing anything wrong, Its not like people don't know the deal up front. Apple computers run an Apple OS. There is no surprise. Apple said they won't stop you from running another OS on their stuff. May I also add that all boxed copies for OS X are upgrade licenses (from any earlier version) for the installation that is already installed with the original Mac.
Until Apple actually sells full licences of OS X individually you can't claim there is any bundling going on at all. There is no "bundle" because it has NEVER been a separate product. The Mac Computer has never been a separate product either. The fact is that the OS AND computer are the same product.
The fact remains that OS X is never sold separate as a full license, which means all copies running on other PCs are indeed stolen.
It is illegal for any ER to turn away any patient. EMTALA states that it is illegal to alter treatment decisions or methods based on financial considerations. You can go into any ER (public or private) and not volunteer name/ SSN, address or anything and you MUST be treated same as anyone else. If the hospital does anything to make you feel otherwise they are violating the law. Our hospital will not discuss what your co-pay is until you have been seen by medical staff (at least triaged). Even if you refuse, you are still treated the same as a fully insured/paid patient. You are even admitted if it is required. If you dont have the cash for the prescription... the hospital will provide it.
They can only send you to another hospital if you have a condition that is beyond the hospital's capabilities. Even then a doctor on both ends must sign off on a transfer confirming that you are stable enough to be transported and both doctors agree its in the best interest. If it comes down to a transfer situation from an ER... you won't be taking yourself.
If you do not have insurance all they can do is bill you later in the mail. I was always able to spot those who knew the system... some frequent fliers always gave a different name and never gave a SSN (or a false one)each visit. Still nothing the hospital can do to stop it.
How can they benchmark the OS using a program requiring the use of Rosetta. If you want to compare you should use an app that is already native to x86. If you do, don't bother putting out data on it. My 4-year old could have told you that the PowerPC iTunes running through Rosetta would have been slower.
The rest of the review felt incomplete and lacked any sort of useful information. Not much of a review as far as a slashdot reader would be concerned.
"And more so, Sony should replace EVERY affected computer with a brand new Vaio."
Upon the annoucement of this, Sony sees record sales of its DRM'd CDs.
This just added evidence to the California lawsuit. Let's see how Sony backs up its security claims now. How many more lawsuits will we see before all is said and done.
We all knew the rootkit was a security issue. Is it really a shock that theres a trojan taking advantage?
1. Its better to be further south to use the earths rotation to give you a 900 MPH+ boost.
2. Launches are to the east (NE for the ISS) in order to carry out the first item. And to place the Spacecraft over the ocean for the SRBs to drop. Or other sections in an emergency.
3. Texas (far south) could be used to carry out 1 and 2 using the Gulf. However that could put overseas landing sites out of reach when needed the most. Also a launch to the ISS heads more towards the NE. If the Orbiter needs to separate early in an emergency that leaves a filled ET and and possibly firing SRBs to come down on land in the southeastern US.
4. Using a southern location especially Florida gives easy access to the Gulf or Atlantic if they need to ditch the Orbiter perhaps after a failed approach. Also for instances when the astronauts bail out they will survive much longer in the 80-85 degree water rather than the cold waters in the north atlantic.
5. Landing at the same place you launch is a big cost benefit instead wasting money on the work needed to fly the orbiter back to florida.
All of these benefits are what locations such as florida provide. Also its not like they can't use Edwards or White Sands if needed anyway. As far as the subject line is concerned... those pretty puffy clouds are not good to have on final in a flying brick with no way to go around. One missed approach is a lot of money lost for sure.
If they are copying google... so far it is a crappy job. Google wins just based on the shortcuts alone. I track packages and look up movie times with google.
Using the command Movie:xxxxx (zip code) is awesome. Google also does a great job with measurement conversions and such. Its all those little things that and awesome serach results when I need it make google what it is.
I have only tried the movie option but I would assume the other are not working YET. Who knows MS may put that that too.
Again, I think the debate here is skewed by the range of different types of roads and traffic we experience daily. Rural roads and highways are not much of an issue, as interstates are not either.

Florida was chosen for many beneficial reasons.
1. Its better to be further south to use the earths rotation to give you a 900 MPH+ boost.
