They have a similar (but probably less secure) gizmo that's MANDATORY for online banking in Iceland. At a press of a button it spits out a pseudo-random 7 digit passnumber (First 2 are always 01, so it's really only 5 digits). Logging on with a number invalidates it, and any older ones you wrote down.
The only "altenate login" is via SMS (not free) so 98% of Icelanders with bank accounts carry this junk on their keychains. The other 2% regularly punch a bunch of passnumbers into a google doc/online email draft, and use it as a fifo buffer, or just don't use online banking that much.
Of course voting is serious. But traceability is a big part of a fair election.
Why American voters put up with a system that does not give them the chance of a recount (or even confirming that the terminal cast your vote correctly), is beyond me...
Microsoft is the functional equivalent of that guy at the bar that can pick up just about any women he pleases, but is cursed with commitment issues that keep anything meaningful from developing.
I thought he was like the weird "friend of the family" who forced himself on almost all the girls before they learned how to say no...
IANAL and all that, but if you have a legal copy of the codecs (e.g. a Windows license), you can use w32codecs and all the other ones without any legal issues. At least that's how I understood the mplayer codec pack disclaimer a few years ago.
So going back to Windows because of this is just plain dumb (unless it's a pirated version of Windows, which would be even dumber...)
Pretty much all the big tech businesses have their servers abroad, but that stems from our shitty/expensive/unreliable fibre channels.
If this is ever going to happen, I think we will need 3 new massive cables to be sure.
I for one welcome our dancing protein overlords.

But I'm not into any of these things so I can't be sure.

I'm gonna f***ing kill you for these lies!
Oh wait... nevermind.
Seems like they really want to give the impression they don't intend to screw anyone over. Time will tell.
Isn't this Huckabee's action plan...?
But when you turn it off you basically get a sp3 version of windows XP
Soooo... then WHAT is Vista?
Mac Mini: 1.83 Ghz Core 2 Duo
Tiny-PC: 500Mhz Geode
Apple TV: 1Ghz single, 256MB RAM, 40GB Hdd, No optical drive, etc...
Seems like they took the AppleTV specs and made a low-power version.
Why do Slashdotters insist on comparing apples and oranges?
You're not alone
/bin/bash
I once created a cygwin script to do it automatically.

That article you link to is over 5 years old. HD-DVD is slightly younger.
In case you missed it, Shrek came out in 2001...

Craft Magazine just published an article on making shiny balls of mud (Vol 03, pp 140-142).

Anyone heard whether Steve Ballmer is thinking of taking the trip too ?
How far can you throw a chair on the moon?
Over a 100 comments but noone has realized that it's a real-time scripting language.
Many companies (including the one I work for) use Lua to extend compiled code on real-time industrial machines. Some even program everything in Lua.

Why not make 99 cent coins?
- pay for all these stupid X.99$ things with X dollars and a single 99 cent coin!
This does not take price gouging in some countries into effect, so that greedy local Apple dealers and undervalued currency have the same effect.
I prefer a product that's less "cool", like milk or bigmacs.
Do we really want squirting in the classroom?
And doesn't Ballmer have exclusive rights to that?
If the (currently vaporware) SED TV ever gets out it will make plasma and LCD obsolete.
