    Pretty much all the big tech businesses have their servers abroad, but that stems from our shitty/expensive/unreliable fibre channels.

    If this is ever going to happen, I think we will need 3 new massive cables to be sure.

    They have a similar (but probably less secure) gizmo that's MANDATORY for online banking in Iceland. At a press of a button it spits out a pseudo-random 7 digit passnumber (First 2 are always 01, so it's really only 5 digits).
    Logging on with a number invalidates it, and any older ones you wrote down.

    The only "altenate login" is via SMS (not free) so 98% of Icelanders with bank accounts carry this junk on their keychains. The other 2% regularly punch a bunch of passnumbers into a google doc/online email draft, and use it as a fifo buffer, or just don't use online banking that much.

    But I'm not into any of these things so I can't be sure.

    Of course voting is serious. But traceability is a big part of a fair election.

    Why American voters put up with a system that does not give them the chance of a recount (or even confirming that the terminal cast your vote correctly), is beyond me...

    They have a whole page of announcements 'n' stuff, including an Open Letter to the Open Source Community, and a letter to QT customers.

    Seems like they really want to give the impression they don't intend to screw anyone over. Time will tell.

    Tiny-PC: 500Mhz Geode
    Apple TV: 1Ghz single, 256MB RAM, 40GB Hdd, No optical drive, etc...

    Seems like they took the AppleTV specs and made a low-power version.
    Why do Slashdotters insist on comparing apples and oranges?

    Microsoft is the functional equivalent of that guy at the bar that can pick up just about any women he pleases, but is cursed with commitment issues that keep anything meaningful from developing.

    I thought he was like the weird "friend of the family" who forced himself on almost all the girls before they learned how to say no...

    IANAL and all that, but if you have a legal copy of the codecs (e.g. a Windows license), you can use w32codecs and all the other ones without any legal issues. At least that's how I understood the mplayer codec pack disclaimer a few years ago.

    So going back to Windows because of this is just plain dumb (unless it's a pirated version of Windows, which would be even dumber...)

    Over a 100 comments but noone has realized that it's a real-time scripting language.

    Many companies (including the one I work for) use Lua to extend compiled code on real-time industrial machines. Some even program everything in Lua.

    That's great - an added plus is that Google's "View as html" is an OCR'd version that's a lot more readable and easier to copy and paste.

    Their open sauce OCR reader is a great tool...

    This does not take price gouging in some countries into effect, so that greedy local Apple dealers and undervalued currency have the same effect.

    I prefer a product that's less "cool", like milk or bigmacs.
