  1. Not very serious on 'Venom' Security Vulnerability Threatens Most Datacenters · · Score: 1

I've get to some across a virtual server provider that has a floppy disk driver enabled. Seems a lot of hype about nothing to be honest and scaremongering.

  3. Details of bug on Apple Fixes Dangerous SSL Authentication Flaw In iOS · · Score: 5, Informative

The bug is that the cn hostname from the certificate is not verified. So it's possible to use your own website SSL cert as a cert for any other site and Apple devices will accept it no question. Of course, to exploit, you'd need to modify a tool like webmitm to serve a fixed certificate.

Very very dangerous, seems to be a result of switching away from OpenSSL although details are still flaky.

  5. Houses by the roadside? on Mobile Phones to Monitor Traffic Congestion · · Score: 2, Interesting

They need to be careful because a number of people could live along side the road and the number of people at home will change throughout the day. As these people are not mobile, and the people change during the day, it is difficult to discern stopped traffic from people watching the television.

I'd be interested to see if they have addressed these problems and if so, how.

Where did the word forensics come from? This is the completely wrong approach if working forensically. Can slashdot please use not use sensational titles! "Analysis of a cracked box" maybe more appropriate.

You've independantly discovered the idea of an Ad-hoc network by the sounds of things. Have a look at the AODV protocol. I'm currently doing research into routing in large scale ad-hoc networks, such as what you describe.

I'm a security professional and I confess I don't log off my PC at home or at work. I trust the people with whom I live, perhaps not entirely those whom I work with, but at the end fo the day it's the convenience. If they get into my computer at work, my god, they may copy the work that I have that they only need ask me for!

You can calculate Pi by doing:

    (1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 + 1/9 - 1/11 + ..) x 4

Obviously the more iterations you do, the closer you will be to the 'true' value of Pi.
