CTS comes from any type of repetative motion. Hairdressers are particularly prone to it, as well as folks who sew for a living. Better equipment can postpone of eliminate it... most of the time
It's also subly genetic, in that people with narrow wrists tend to it more than others. Interesting, really, and makes plenty of sense. And also explains why I've had it since I was 14.
This has been my experience also (coming at it from the student perspective).
I've only once had a prof require a book that was written by someone in his department. Also only once have I ever had a class where the book was useless -- that same book. Every other book was highly important to the subject matter, though I suppose, had I wanted to spend the extra time, I could have found all the information somewhere for free. I kept most of those books; I've used some of them at work and given others to my sister for use in high school.
That said, this idea of expiring ebooks, free or otherwise smells a bit... rank.
Oh lord, we have the same problem (different CMS)
I've test driver WordCleaner and it works nicely, but costs money (so we haven't been able to talk any depts. into buying it).
Our big problem is that our CMS eats curly quotes... and of course, everybody just has to use curly quotes.
I do, and strictly out of respect for the folks whose names don't make top billing; after all, they're the ones putting in all the work.
That and they've been sneaky about easter eggs lately, and the damn things are usually more fun than the movie.

How'd you luck out? My UPS is more like a airhorn.
