WTF do you care if a Dr prescribes his elderly patient the means to defend themselves? Elders are subject to criminals stealing their medication, money, and what-not. How the fsck are they going to protect themselves? With LifeLine (R) Alert?
i'm under the impression that the internet is already free? yes, i pay money every month to time-warner cable/roadrunner, but that's only for the efficient means of getting onto the internet. once connected, i do not pay a penny more. they (twc-rr)provide a service for which i expect to pay a fee. no one should expect a service to be free. and while i know not all companies charge the same fees for the same service, i'm quite happy with a 25M pipe, for which i only pay ~$34/mo. i'm in podunk, nh (near canada) and options are slim.
also, if you demand and receive your "free" internet, i would suspect you would be rewarded with minimal (if any)service/support, compounded with crap quality, topped off with severely restricted terms. so, in the end, that really isn't "free" either...
i agree, and I saw where Obama has said that that sweet-spot will be scrutinized very closely. I am intruiged with whats out there in space, and how it may be advantageous to explore for possible future development. However, when my neighbor has little or nothing to eat, another has no heat, and I see a couple of shelter-less people down the street (and this is in hicksville, new hampshire, pop. 2500!), it makes me wonder why we don't stop this waste of money and fix the shit that's wrong with Earth before we go looking for another place to shit because Earth can no longer sustain us.
now you're throwing the Patriot Act into it? You're a paranoid dude aren't you?
you're quote (in entirety): "a free-for-all where grandmothers lost their houses because a grand-kid stayed with them and smoke a couple of joints while he was there."
THAT's the statement I'm looking for a link to. WTF did a grandmother EVER lose her house because her grandkid SMOKED a couple of joints? NOT SOLD a couple (big difference!)...still unbelievable, but you DID say smoking...I also note your use of pluralistic terms, but I'll settle for one link.
granny came in here: "but then turned into a free-for-all where grandmothers etc"...since i believe the initial statement to be hype. turning your hype into a worst case scenario would call for grannies demise. hence my statement. the laws work fine, you want to sell drugs, or allow them to be sold on your tangibles, then be prepared to lose your tangibles! it's more effective than it is ill-used or applied, as you suggest.
disclaimer: i use opiates (both prescribed and not), and am totally aware of the ramifications of that.
no problem. I will admit (if I haven't already) that I am a Windows ab/user (of 8 copies of Windows, only my sole x64 version is legal!). I will further admit it takes a person of orders of magnitude of intelligence greater to (successfully) operate Linux/etc (I obtained a CompSci degree on a Mac!), and don't find that OS difficult at all. I did however bristle at your assertion that Windows users were "newbies".
Kudos to all that took the time, had the patience, and the wherewithal to learn the ins, outs, and in-betweens of Linux. And besides, your icon (the penguin) is much, much cooler than mine! A stupid flag! I mean, c'mon- who's idea was that!?
:)
statement #1 illustrates the issue, while statement #2 illustrates why you talk out your ass.....
additionally, while there is a spell-check in Windows for the "apparent idiots" (I've never used it, btw), I guess there isn't one in mac/linux for the "experienced idiots"? this Windows "newbie" (been on Windows since the early 80's) sees 4 glaring 4th-grade-level spelling errors...OTOH, if i was on mac/linux I guess I'd see more...
actually, it IS! while not giving me a "definite" (or definitive) answer, it DID explain why such an answer isn't possible.
and thanks for rising above my sarcasm...
It's commonly accepted that the universe is of finite size and has a defined shape.
so after you define for me the size (or shape) of the Universe, please tell all of us what's on the other side (or outside the boundries of your definition)...
...I don't even care that you missed his point, learn some fucking social skills and stop going around calling people retarded over completely trivial things....
i'm sorry, how the fuxk is this news? 10 million lines, whoop-de-freakin'-do. Windows (probably) has more lines than that, and THAT'S not even news...more lines. more bloat.
...The values of the stock markets have almost nothing to do with anything real....
i call bullshit! the worth of the stock market tonight is what everyone is worth tomorrow. i don't have a single dollar in the stock market, but i can see how it effects the few i do have in my wallet...
...So do people still gather at the general store to use the internet?...
when i came to Lancaster in 1999, there was 33k dial-up! In 2002, I opened a computer repair shop downtown and we were the first in town to have 1/368 ADSL.!! Today I enjoy 15/1 cable, and rumour is FiOS is headed here soon (5yrs?)!
and yes, people still use CB radio's here, we just got cell-phones last year....in Franconia (down the road a ways) people ACTUALLY DO congregate to the General Store for Internet!
although I know you were kidding, have a laugh at this:
in Coos County [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coos_County,_New_Hampshire] there are 5000 moose [http://extension.unh.edu/counties/Coos/CoCProf.htm] to 33,000 people [http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/33/33007.html]!!!
for the mathematically challenged, that's 1 moose for every 6 people...
better hurry! according to the site: http://www.mountwashingtonautoroad.com/Page-213.html
you have 9 days to do it....
October 6 - 13 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
October 14 - Closing 8:00 AM-4:00 PM
and if you went to Vermont via Rt 2, you went right by my apartment. I live at the southern junction of Rt's 2 & 3 in Lancaster NH (across the Connecticut River at Lunenburg/Guildhall VT [Rt2])...
my state of new hampshire does its fair share of the "autumnal display" as well. however, we think of maine mostly for its beautiful rocky shoreline (and lobsters!)...
as i'm north of the Notches (closer to Canada actually) our foliage has gone past. Matter of fact, at this moment there is 2ft of snow not more than 40 miles from my house on the Rockpile.
...It seems to me that he did clear out the archive of old and useless equipment....
if in fact he cleared out old and useless equipment, why are we assigning a contemporary value to an "old and useless" piece of equipment? the box of paperclips and the box of pencils offered for sale in previous posts certainly have not increased in value over time, therefore associating an "antique" value to the item is worthless as well...
"It also saves space and effort when typing."
? nt jst drp th vwls?
Can't work today... [smivsonline.co.uk]
go back to work.

just my 2 cents, ymmv...
especially being contained in these "tubes" i've heard so much about...yes, it sounds like this will in fact "streamline" the internet!
sorry, I did NOT RTFA.
I must be new here...

that's an extreme to believe, even if the grandmother died...gotta link to show this similarity?
