  1. Grant money on Are Mobile Phones Wiping Out Bees? · · Score: 1

Now grandma can choose between the TV preacher and the research scientist.

  2. Looks like a perfect application for zoneminder. on Texas to Provide Online 'Bordercams' · · Score: 1

Anyone care to donate a beowulf cluster for processing the video feeds?

  3. As a former FedEx employee... on MPAA training Dogs to Sniff Out DVDs · · Score: 1

I say "AAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!" They're using 2 dogs for how many tonnes of freight? How many thousands of locations around the world? I seriously doubt there's enough police dogs in the world to search a sizeable amount of the frieght that FDX handles. The only time a handler is going to care about your contraband is when you're dumb enough to pack it in something flimsy and they have to clean it up/report it.

  5. Lowering the average (but not by much, probably) on Scaremongering over Spyware? · · Score: 1

I would imagine that most of their data comes from people who have been sent to their website by some tech, "Dude, you're infected...go to this website". This is going to skew their sample population (which they probably knew already. OH NOES!!!11)

If a bunch of us paranoid MFers who scan regularly with multiple programs went to their site I'm betting that average would drop.

  6. Re:Orcestral synthesis on Network-Monitoring Data Put to Music · · Score: 1

Pfft! We've been doing that for years. We just went downtown and hired a bunch of starving performance artists, painters, and hobos. When our site gets /.ed the mimes start walking against the wind, the clocks start melting, and a bumfight breaks out.

  7. Re:Tried this on Network-Monitoring Data Put to Music · · Score: 1

Ah! So you're using Win9x and Samba.

  8. Re:Amazon Star Trek Super-Combo on Blu-ray Discs Won't Be Cheap · · Score: 1

How much of that is recorded in HD quality?

  9. Re:Why Only Police? on Tagging Devices To Aid In Car Chases · · Score: 5, Insightful

That would never work. You'd have too many people tagging that "asshole because he's richer than me" porche driver and the "holier-than-thou" prius driver and the "gas guzzling enviro-hater" SUV driver just because they don't like a particular $STEREOTYPE. I'd probably be safe in my $500 sable, though.

  12. Re:Epilepsy? on E-Paper On Cereal Boxes · · Score: 1

For someone who is profoundly photosensitive it only takes one flash under the proper conditions (Like watching an explosion in a darkened movie theatre). I doubt that the number of photosensitive people that are as sensitive as my wife is very high, though. The absolute worst thing is light flashing through the trees while driving.
