    If you're inside a support contract you can upgrade to the latest version of RHEL free of charge, so what you do is keep your production boxes running and you setup a test environment with the latest RHEL and MySQL. What's the big deal?

    Uhm. No. In Apple's world, a parent should be able to say "you aren't allowed to read that book". That's essentially what parental controls is, controls from the parent. Of course it's easier to disobey in real life, but the idea is the same. Your comparison to armed guards are nonsense.

    Here they have found the bottom issue: emacs was expecting some reasonable behavior from the kernel: data delivery before notification of producer's termination. The behavior was broken.

    So emacs was broken, and that's Alan's fault?

    Wake me up when Ubuntu has > 80% market share and actively works against installing KOffice, Abiword, GNUMeric etc. Oh, and OOo and Firefox use/follow open standards. Microsoft Office and IE does not have the best track records in that area.
