That is exactly my point. Microsoft is slowly losing its exclusivity in useful software. The excuse "I need to run Windows because all my programs run on Windows" is getting less and less true. Hell, I find Photoshop runs better in wine than native win7. This trend can only be good for the consumer.
I never see the desktop once I've opened a single program.
I rarely have just one program open, but I still can't see my desktop. Sometimes I arrange important icons in areas of the desktop not covered by windows, but I still spend most of my time in front of the computer looking at programs I am using. Not having a start menu is just dumb.
As a photographer (alanklughammer.com) WTF is up with these images? Most of them are just random scenes with no redeeming qualities that I can see.... except maybe they were royalty free.... I agree, at least the voyager images said something, and then they came back as a hot bald chick (ok, they possessed a hot bald chick)
I agree that many western religions are way out of control, and are used to subjugate sheeple. However, most religions, at their core, are a set of rules for healthy living in a society. For example, the Koran says women should cover themselves. Maybe that is because when that was written, most women worked outdoors in the hot Mediterranean sun. They did not want to get a sunburn... Don't eat pork. Back in the day, pork was much more likely to cause diseases and parasites. No way to tell if it is properly cooked, so how about we just say no.... In Christianity, "Thou shall not kill" Duh!
Many eastern religions are more a lifestyle than an explanation of the world around them. And yes there are things like reincarnation and stuff to make people feel better, but think about it:
jerkwad king, "Why should I give a crap, I'm just going to die anyway. I'll treat everyone like shit"
Monk, "Imagine if you were reincarnated as a cow, and everyone beat you all day. How would that feel?"
jerkwad king, "Oh wow, I better declare cows sacred because I will be reincarnated...."
No, I would say it is a "not looking at the tool in question" issue. Ipads are not a replacement for laptops, especially for the uses the school seems to want. This seems like jumping on a bandwagon before really thinking about what the new gadgets will be used for.
I would blame the IT department (without reading TFA) who did not explain the limitations of the ipads...
This pisses me off too, I have a friend who is a reseller so I bought some hosting from him (didn't know at the time it was godaddy) Now I have half a dozen domains and various websites and online tools. It would be a pain to move all of them. No love lost for anonymous
Wow, I did not realize drivers were so bad. maybe that is the problem. A drivers license should not be that easy to get... Unfortunately, there are places where a car is a necessity,
I'm not sure. One other problem that has been brought up elsewhere is maintenance. If you change the diameter of the wheels, as a simple example, A human driver will have an idea the speedometer is wrong. A computer, not so much. This simple example could probably be avoided by using gps, but there are places where gps doesn't work, such as tunnels and concrete canyons. Some redneck hacker will try to modify his own car to disastrous effect.
yeah, ok, it should turn off if it senses a large mass, but that just means my original complaints of lack of feel and the inability to use the screen while wearing gloves still make it a fail for a serious device.
So Photographers should give up a hundred years of evolution for the latest wiz bang.... and Lens flare? DSLR's, when well used, have way less lens flare than an iphone (or android phone) will ever hope to come close to. What about limiting depth of field? According to the laws of physics, a larger sensor is the only way to get isolated focus (yes you can mimic it in software, but it is not near the same thing)
Photographers don't always use large format, medium format, or even smaller full frame and crop sensor cameras just because that's what they are used to. Good photographers use the right tool for the job, and that is rarely a camera phone.
There are many things that software can do, and there is still a lot of room for cameras to change and get better, but DSLR's are often the most versatile and the best compromise in many situations.
Sorry to reply to my own comment (slashdot REALLY needs an edit function) but I forgot the biggest issue with a touchscreen on a DSLR. Your nose will change settings every time you put the camera to your eye.....
- an ambulance is approaching from behind you. It would not be safe to pull over right here, but a few hundred metres on there is a pull out. It makes sense to speed up a bit and pull out of the way.
- similar if a regular driver is approaching very quickly (I assume you use your rear view mirrors for more than just backing up...) Do you keep driving more slowly, maybe causing the other driver to do something stupid, or do you speed up so the aggressive driver can pass you more safely.
- You are driving through an intersection and you notice someone approaching from a side street very quickly. You are not sure if they will stop. you can either speed up, and get out of the intersection, or slow down so the chances of them hitting you is greater.
All of these incidents have happened to me more than once. In fact, once when I was riding a bicycle, and I could not accelerate fast enough, I was hit by a car coming out of a side street. If I had been on a motorcycle, I could have avoided the accident.
Drive defensively. Look at what other drivers around you are doing, and try to figure out what they may do next. Use acceleration, brakes, and lane changes to keep yourself out of potentially dangerous conditions. And stopping is NOT always the correct answer. Getting rear ended can be as bad or worse than a front end collision.
Sorry dude, you are not as good a driver as you think you are....
Marking doesn't enter into into long-term success, in can only initiate short-term buying flurries - the technological sophistication of the device itself is the determinant of long-term sales.
I assume you mean marketing. If so you are exactly wrong. Marketing literally means making a product the "market"( ie the customer) wants. Unfortunately, Accountants and MBA's come in and try to cut corners. They then expect the marketing department to make a silk purse out of a pile of pig shit... And then the marketers look like the bad guys when things fail.*
*Yes I am interested in marketing and advertising, but I would never want to follow it as a career for the reason I stated above...
A shot of espresso is nice, but it is over too fast. Sometimes a shot of rye will hit the spot, sometimes you want to add a bit of club soda to make it a more social drink...

The site scores pretty high on my annoyometer!

I think his point was that if Microsoft drops the ball enough, Quickbooks may start releasing versions for OSX, or Linux.
you are holding it wrong

Buttons, knobs, and scroll wheels are one of the best things about a DSLR - there is no way I would want them replaced by a touch screen.
THIS.....
Try to operate a touchscreen with gloves on (not all pictures are taken on holidays in warm places)
Try to operate a touchscreen by feel
For rarely used settings, such as changing resolution, a menu system is just as efficient, and is hidden away when you don't need it.

One of the reasons I bought my HTC Wildfire was its small size, and honestly, if it was much smaller, it would be too small to do anything with...
PS here is the first link I found on Google:

It lists 5
