According to in-game chat someone in EVE-Online lost a Titan class ship the other day (read: MONTHS of invested gametime) I'm sure they had some rather strong emotions.
so... please don't take it personally if I take your camera and smash it after you take a picture of me? (I mean no threat, just bringing up a point) if someone cares enough to purposefully not post themselves on the web, perhaps out of fear of a stalker, what right do you have to "publish" without consent?
"Today, grassroots campaigning can't work, because the media works against it. "
Of course they work against grassroots campaigns. When politicians spend millions of dollars to get elected, who do you think gets all that money? The Media. They are protecting an important revenue stream when they ensure that anyone trying to get elected without paying for airtime gets painfully, publicly, destroyed.
"Blowing shit up is illegal. Writing a book on how to blow shit up and where to buy all the parts is not."... yet. Don't worry they'll get to that soon enough.
Is it possible for everyone who enjoys the Wii to sue this lawyer for interfereing in their access to innovative video gaming? If the lawsuit were massively successful, and Nintendo decided to discontinue the Wii or double it's price to cover legal costs, would I have legal recourse against those who destroyed it? This might sound silly at first, but consider how lawsuits have effected the cost of health care, or caused the closing of many mountain biking trails, rock climbing crags, and lake side rope swings. How do we stop the lawyers from ruining all our fun?
I'm not a dedicated MicroSoft hater, but I do miss the days when I gave my computer "commands" not "suggestions". Nothing is quite so aggrivating as hidden directories and being told that I cannot delete something.
It will be expensive at first, but given the sheer number of diabetics in the industrialized world, mass production should have the actual cost down pretty fast. A few well placed lawsuits will keep the profit margin reasonable.
"though I suppose a creative defender could argue it was an application of Congress' power to organize the militia, what with the militia being universal and all, and being able to identify its members being a critical component of organizing it."
Ok, so if I'm then part of the "organized militia" then any ReadlID is also a gun license.
Natural cycle or not, the effects of continued global warm spell out serious trouble for humanity. An impending impact by a giant astroid might be part of the natural rhythm of the universe but I'd rather prevent it if I could. But hey, maybe the destruction of a large percentage of civilization is just what we need to get over our petty differences.
Please mod parent up, Point #3 is well worth considering. Point #2 I think is moot, because the history of global tempuratures is not based on reading taken at the time, but on levels of oxygen isotopes trapped in air bubbles in ancient ice, all measured with modern equipment. The fact still remains that we are getting warmer, and that the results of getting warmer could be catastrophic. But we must not assume that CO2 is the source, or sole source, of the problem when we discuss how to stop global warming.
Just because these people don't have a western education, doesn't make them idiot brutes. Please stop treating them as such. I understand that they rely on family to take care of them in their old age and that what I am asking of them would cost them the last 20 years of their lives. Yes the situation is tragic, but everyone understands that when there isn't enough to go around, more mouths do not make the stiuation better. Giving up 20 years of my life to prevent several children from starving to death is not a choice I would want to face, but I know what my choice would be.
So these people are planning on more than half of their children starving to death or dying form disease, so they have as many as they can. What greedy selfish fucks! They are willing to destroy the lives of several children to help protect their own future. Why again am I supposed to feel sympathy for these people?
If the Second amendment is there to protect the First. Maybe it's time for the NRA to hold an armed protest march. Heck don't even load your guns, just have several hundred thousand members, with rifles on shoulders, surround Capital Hill. Rights are like muscles, if you don't use 'em, you lose 'em.
Many users are still bitter about the limited availability of the PS3 because of the Blu-Ray. Also many are skeptical of the Blu-Ray because of Sony's past formats that did not succeed.
And many think that Sony is run by a bunch of arrogant asshats that treat their customers like idiots and theives. Let's not forget that one.
"The mass ownership of guns is one of the leading causes of terror and misery in our society."
I always thought that arrogant old men with power were the leading cause of terror and misery in the world, through out history. Maybe the people should question the governments right to own guns? Really.
You caught me. I hate children. the next big wave of over population. I look out at the world, and I think "Hmm, What does the world need more of? Rain Forests? No. Whales? No. Pristine Wilderness? No. I know, the world needs a least one more person. Sure I passed 10,000 people on the way to work, but I'm sure what would really help ease the political, economic, and ecological stresses of the modern world would be another person." Maybe if they didn't have kids they couldn't feed those countries wouldn't suck so much. This may sound like flamebait, but really lets apply some supply and demand here and see what more children are really worth.
"the whole idea of knowledge being the best route out of poverty is forgotten."
I thought the whole ida of the $100 laptop was that the Internet is the easiest way to lots of knowledge. A computer with internet access can supply you with more that $100, $1000, or even $10,000 worth of textbooks.
"The idea *to* do it came from themselves, from deep mental issues probably stemming from their parents or not having enough ways of releasing their anger safely" And let's not even think to look at why they have so much anger towards their fellow students in the first place. They probably got the idea of hurting other students from being hurt themselves. Maybe we should look into why these kids feel that they have to go to such extremes. What is the right outlet for the socially ostricized and quitely bullied?
Maybe he's been showing up when it's convinent for him for years and so didn't notice anything strange when other people started doing too. As long as he produces the results, who cares?
I find that more comfortable each person is with their relious or political choices and the more mutual respect between the people involved the deeper the conversation can delve without anyone getting upset. I can disagree passionately with my friends, but I still know they are my friends and that they argue their perspective with a sincere desire for understanding. The wonderful discussions that emerge both strengthen our friendships and provide hours of pleasure.

They say each successive version is "more stable and secure!"
That just shows you how far from stable and secure they really started.

"sort of calls their morals into question, eh?"
No. There was never any question as to the state of the RIAA's morals.
So everyone who likes their brownies with marijuana...
