To those/.ers that know more of physics than I do, is Dark Matter supposed to be some actual particle, or is it a kind of natural gravitational topography? Everything I read ( quick google search/old copy of "Elegant Universe") about it seems to be rather vague and mysterious.
"Umm, who are you to judge who is "real christian" or not (where's that part in the bible about judging others). "
Ah, a perfect example of warping a religious ideal into a tool for your own purpose. Thank you. There a great deal of difference between exercising your personal feeling of justice (Judging) and verbally holding your fellow man accountable (you claim to be Christian, yet are clearly acting otherwise). Judge not lest ye be judged, is not a call to apathy but to mercy.
Religion, like patriotism, is easily turned from it's true meaning into a tool for the gain and exercise of power. That doesn't mean that faith or pride in your country are wrong. It means that you need to know enough about those things, to be able to tell when they are being misused. To put it in comfortable/. terms : Computers are wonderful things, but if you don't carefully inspect and maintain them, they pick up a bot and become a bad thing. The church is no different.
If Nigeria is taking the first couple of steps towards being an industrialized nation, maybe they could learn from our mistakes and plan out their infrastructure with some forethought. If they were to build a well planned, new place for the people to live, it should include mass transit to where the people work. They could even power it with the gases the plants are burning off. Give them an industrial zone, and a residential zone, maybe even a commercial zone, and connect them all with effective public transit. With the oil money there, we know that in the next 50 years a modern industrial city will spring up. Now is the time to plan it out and lay the base work.
The first problem (the health problems) seems easy enough to solve. Move the town a few miles upwind. From what I could tell from the pictures, some newly constructed quality housing is one of the next steps that area needs anyhow. Yes that cost $$$, maybe that could be the next project for the Gates Foundation.
Maybe if there were free tools available to find and remove bots from home computers, you could argue that a "pollution" fine would be in order for those that allowed (through neglect) bot proliferation.
I would think that in the context of SL she falls into the same catagory as real life stars that get harrased by paprazzi. by simple virtue of having her avatar specifically interviewed she is now a public figure.
" "damn foreigners" coming to steal our tax, just so they can send the money back home."
While it think open immigration is a good idea the sending money out of the local economy isn't. In both England and the US we need a strong levy on "money sent home". If someone immigrates here then this needs to be "home". You spend your cash here, you speak the native language, you embrace the native customs, you fly the native flag. (yes the last one is a sore point with me)
If an Ape that has been taught sign language asks for a lawyer, does he get a public defender? If (not knowing of the existance of lawyers) he requests help from his favorite trainer when he doesn't want to do something? (like go in a cage) does that count as requesting an advocate? There is an interesting progression (or slippery slope) that can be made when "human rights" become "sentient rights"
FTA "effort to reverse-engineer the proprietary binary format used by AutoCAD."
The industry standard you refer to would seem to be OpenDWG. AutoCAD appearently only saves to a proprietary format, which is not the industry standard that IntelliCAD, or DesignCAD, or any other of those fine programs uses. That makes AutoCAD a potentially crappy product. It's a stupid move on the part of Autodesk. You should probably avoid useing AutoCAD when possible. However, what I'm defending is Autodesk's right to have a "proprietary format".
"The government's argument is that no warrant is necessary since your documents are stored in the open."
I need a password to access my e-mail. Why is that considered "in the open"? Should ISP's be able to access my e-mail without my permission ? I consider my correspondence to fall under the catagory of "secure in {my} papers and effects" and since the government theoretorically get's it's power from a mandate from the people...
"Perhaps you should consider your bank asking, "Could I watermark your money so you can't move it to another account?"
I thought it would be like my bank only accepting money that was watermarked as "genuine" by the US Government. Oh, wait... Autodesk is a de facto standard because they have a good product, maybe they are selling the "Autodesk Experience". keeping third party software out is their perogative. Lack of interoperability is a quality problem, not a legal problem.
I understand the difference you are suggesting, but doubt that was what the researchers found. Even trained dogs move their heads from side to side, determining a direction to the source by comparitive scent levels. If the students had their heads immobilzed and could still indicate a direction, that would be a different matter.
I think of the universe as the area in which the laws of physics apply. More of an intangible(universe), interacting with another intangible(space). Even the word "beyond" loses meaning past the edge of the universe.
But as photographers, shouldn't you and the GF worry that this software makes your art, a part of a database with huge exploitaion potential? My problem isn't with being in your picture, my problem is that your picture is now also entering my face into that database. You leave fingerprints and DNA everywhere you go in public as well, how whould you feel about those being catalogued?
The problem I'm concerned with here is more along the lines of: I cut someone off on the highway. They speed past and take a picture of me with cameraphone. They use said software to find pictures of me on the internet, including picture of me with my girlfriend. They search with same software for the identity of girlfriend. They take out their grudge on her. People go way overboard with road rage, so that scenerio isn't entirely paranoid. With a simple photo they get access to the who and where of all of my friends and family, by way of this software. It's a great tool for stalkers and exploitation, with little use to the average person.

... I kid, I kid.
MOD PARENT DOWN!
Damn Right! If you mix that stuff with a chlorine bleach, the fumes will put you straight in the morgue.

How about a universal warning label that reads "WARNING: Darwinism in effect"
But my GF is a vegetarian, and is allergic to pineapples. ...PROFIT!

hey Mormon chicks are very frequently HOT, and tend to want lots of kids. Marrying a Utah lass might well be an upgrade and virus protection.

These days there is alot of money in the gaming industry. Where there is money, there are lawyers. You know the rest.

Could I copy your signature to have full interoperability with your bank account?
"This is most likely moot, because in order to properly test this in court, we'd need DRM-protected media of material with an expired copyright."
Any Mozart CD's with DRM?
I'll gladly vote for you if that's your platform, but good luck getting any professional politicians to allow us to make that into law.
