    TV antennas are typically log periodics that have a very broad frequency response; up to a decade in bandwidth. RTLSDR are piss poor on just about everything but price, but this proposed hardware with GPS should make a nice distributed receiver at HF. Anyway, just backed it.

    That's a false comparison. Nobody carries around a hunting rifle to, in your own words, "stop a threat."

    If you're claiming hand-guns are somehow a "soft" method of defending yourself, then you are sorely mistaken.

    No, a handgun is not a optimal weapon for defending yourself. If someone is breaking into my house, I will grab the handgun beside my bed and go get my 12 gauge, which is optimal for my home.

    Yep, been doing that for a while with GNU Radio, gr-dsd with USRP. I may get an Airspy just so I can use Unitrunker on Windows (without using the RTL dongles). Still really isn't a good digital scanning solution for SDR, although I wrote one for NBFM and AM: https://github.com/madengr/ham...

    It's not. Many P25 talkgroups are encrypted, specifically the police tactical ones. Sometimes they just use a cell phone.

    I have gone from 20 to 23 via upgrades with no issues. The fedora team does a pretty good job with the instructions and methods. Now if they would only get rid of the stinking graphical boot and the "quiet" mode. What do people fear kernel messages at boot?

  25. The cost is what amazes me these days. This thing has two radio cores, two processor cores, and a host of other peripherals, and it's dirt cheap.
