True. Besides, if they are really good, they can make a fortune on tours. Get several thousands of fans and make it $3 a ticket, and you will have the ends met performing once a month. That's a good way for a musician to make money, and noone is going to accuse them of something in this case - they have to eat something like ordinary people, after all.
please name at least one.
My aMule is not able to find a server having the same number of digits in "indexed files". It seems more like "long live ed2k" to me...
XP has grouping of taskbar items. And there is absolutely no way to get that in 2k. You have either to enlarge your taskbar or switch to some other windows manager - and all the non-microsoft WMs for win lack stbility. And one cannot live without that thing after years in linux with all the grouping and virtual desktops.
Yup, that's how my position called: QA developer. Although we still have a great demand for manual tests, for example, in browser tests the DOM is OK, but the display onscreen is totally crappy. And noone wants to do the "dumb manual testing". Ahem, well, its often dumb without quotes.
Too bad there's nothing like 65-75K for that job in Russia =)
Most of pepople using internet in Russia pay for traffic or even for the time they spend online. It's only Moscow where you can get 1Mbit unlimited for $30/month, and it's not every city district where it's available. So it's mostly something like paying some fractions of cent for every page here on slashdot, yes.
And you know what? Interner in Russia is well alive, and we shop online, and earn money online, and everything. So I can bet the earth is not going to shatter if Verizon starts doing something weird. Besides, if they do, there sure will be some daring competitors to outmarket them. Internet is decentralized and cannot be owned.
As for "other internet", i dont get it. Whatcha you people're talking' bout? Is there any sence in getting separated? And even if someone is really going to make that, there sure are going to be gateways...
You must be kidding - native KDE apps DO run in GTK environments, but having twice the libs in your memory is a real pain! The amaroK is really good though, it's the reason I use KDE instead of ultrafast and just as neat XFCE .
And thanks slashdot for giving a link to pandora! It rocks! I've been submitting to last.fm for two years by now, it was back when it was audioscrobbler, and it never could give me really good recomendations to such popular bands as The White Stripes and Iron Maiden - guess because they are listened to by people with really different tastes.
Probably when it is going to be as sophisticated as google's search is? You know, as for me I've experienced troubles with lost emails on Gmail untill recently. My father even told me that "G" before "mail" is abbreviation for "govno", that is "shit" in Russian.
Well, if you care about hand-drawn stuff, could you please name any modern animation studio that does not use computer animation? There sure are some, but these are just fanatics without commonly too much impact on anything.
Once again I'm getting more and more convinced that Intel and AMD have just switched places. You know, like that tale about the slayer of the dragon becoming dragon himself an so on?
whoa, and I thought Russia was far behind in communicational services =)
Today 2 of 3 telecom operators in Moscow offer network services anywhere in the subway, the 3rd one is slowly covering the platforms and hoping low prices can attract more people. It's been like that for at least 3 years now!
Slashdot's value lies in interesting tech stories not covered everywhere else
in case you didn't know, Slashdot actually is a blog of links to articles somewhere else
What's a PVR anyway? Pathetic Virgin Russian? No, thanks, I've been living in Moscow for 5 years and I'm tired of them already. And now the Godzilla comes...
Sadly enough, there are LOTS of sites designed for IE that do not work too well in firefox&opera. Thank goodness none of theese are the ones I use for my entertainment as my home machine runs under linux. When I'm at work and firefox is running under windows, there's a very helpful extension called IEView which I use. But still lots of people prefer IE because "it renders the pages correctly", and do not strive for functionality. Or just use something like Maxthon or Green Browser, which replicate many of FF and Opera's features.
PS If you don't even know what Opera is - it is a lightweight Norwegian browser wuth tabs and stuff. It's higly popular here in Russia (don't know exact figures, but more popular than Firefox)

Whoa! If microsoft is in 1st camp, then why is the Windows GUI so UGLY compared to KDE/Gnome/OSX and even XFCE?
Yeah, let's make everyone have more VMs on their computers.

Why is Slashdot posting articles about this junk every other day?

Mod this up. Made me laugh aloud! =)
an article about exactly what I'm going to do at work tomorrow. Thanks, Slashdot, but no thanks.

Well, who cares anyway, this is Slashdot, you can post any rubbish here and still recieve hundreds of comments.
Emigrants tend to earn times more than "outsorcers", you know what I mean?
did you miss 'and it has no connectivity' part?

Maaaan...go compare THE WALKMAN with some iPod, no matter how cool it seems to be?
No way, man! If you can't disprove it, there is no way it can be true!!! Read Carl Popper and so on =)
Don't touch bouncing icons! I have those on my linux laptop and windows desktop just because they are GREAT!!!
