Yes, it would, if we did not routinely speak out and act against the KKK in this country. That being said, as the years go on and I see how much we are being robbed blind in this country, I am starting to think, maybe I should never have, and in the future may not, speak out against the KKK. Maybe I'll join them.

  6. Well sai...I am guilty! on How Do You Stay Upbeat Amidst the Idiocy? · · Score: 1

Unfortunately, far too many people take an attitude of "if you don't know what I know, you're an idiot". I know quite a number of people who are constantly stressed out, because they expect anyone and everyone to be fully up to speed on everything that they are interested in. Engineers seem to be particularly susceptible to this, because unlike writers, musicians, or artists, we deal with deterministic systems. We design, build, and fix things so that they are reliably predictable. But people aren't reliably predictable, and expecting them to be is going to stress you out.

I am always stressed-out when people in my profession can't seem to grasp what I consider the most basic of concepts and ideas. I don't really think they are an "idiot" pe se, I just can't fathom how they are in this profession (software development) and yet can't seem to grasp new ideas or thought processes. Now, I don't expect people in other professions to "get" software design and development ideas, but, I do expect people in the profession to do so. When they don't, I get REALLY, REALLY stressed out!

Exactly! I'm sick and tired of hearing about how everytone "Hates" foreigners or whatever.

My whole life I swallowed the lie that somehow I owed minorities and the poor oppressed foreigners something. My eyes have been awakened over the last year or so. I've come to realize I was duped (as have we all been). I've seen first-hand how our standard of living is being squeezed from above and below. I've seen first-hand the farce that is the H1B-Visa program. We all are having our livelihoods stolen away from us.

Everyone, inevitably trots out the old saw about "Native Americans" to point out that "we" are not the original Americans. So WHAT? All this proves is that we need to fight harder than the "Native Americans" if we want to keep what our ancestors fought and died for.

I've worked consistenly between 50 and 70 hour work-weeks my entire life (since I was 14) just to have and approximation of a decent life not living amongst a bunch of punks and dead-beats. I never received any special help from the vast conspiracy of "Whites Only" club. Wanna know why? It doesn't exist!

Our cities are crumbling messes of inept, hate-filled, lazy, minorities who are always looking for a hand-out. Companies are out-sourcing and in-sourcing (H1B) undermining all the fair-labor laws we fought for in this country. All these 3rd world bastards come here wanting to take advantage of what this country has built but then they want to reject our values and substitute their own.

NO! NO! NO! I say, gather your guns. Gather your strength. Gather your courage. Gather your emotions. Be ready to fight and fight hard. It's going to get messy. They want us to cower in the corner and feel guilty while they steal everything from us. Then, when everything is taken and used up and destroyed, then they will blame us.

Again, I say NO! Stand up! Stand up! Stand up!

  24. Yes and No. on IT Job Without a Degree? · · Score: 1

Yes, you can develop a good career in IT if you are smart, hard-working, and willing to do the "Dirty Work" initially (and even to some extent long-term). What I mean by "Dirty Work" is you need to plan on spending many hours outside of work learning technologies, understanding issues, and combin the internet for technology information. You need to be a talented problem solver (Do you like Logi Puzzles?) and you need to "Work Hard"! This last point I cannot stress enough.

I've managed to turn my lack of degree into a comfortable six-figure salary over time. I did it through hard-work and hard-study. I know much, much, more than the average (or even above average) college grad and I've consistently delivered during my career.

Now, that being said, I really wouldn't recommend this road. It's tough!

I have a lot of regrets. I know I've had to work twice as hard as my peers to achieve recognition. There are still jobs, that I would love to pursue, for which it is difficult to get my foot in the door for lack of degree.

I would strongly recommend you not worry about getting a "Good Job" without a degree and instead focus on how you can get a degree without bankrupting yourself or starving to death. You may be, like me when I was young, thinkging you have no choice other than to work to survive, but, trust me, you have more choices than you think. You really, really need to consider whether you want to go down the "No Degree" road, because, once you do, it is very difficult to change later.

If you stick with the degree route as long as possible, you can always change to the "No Degree" route easily later. Changing back from the "No Degree" route to "Hey, I think I want a degree after all" is much, much more difficult.

Does anyone else have similar experience?
