My linux installations are a hassle, and my family thinks that I wasted my computers, which, by the way, have much more powerful hardware than my windows installation, by installing linux on them.
Btw, did anyone hear of Linus's attempt to copyright Linux? Does anyone even make a second glance at that incident? Or are you trolls too busy bashing Microsoft to notice or care? Because after all, you can be a hypocrite as long as you are doing it against Microsoft.
...is just run IIS server, MS SQL Server, and some Windows hardware. Not only would it be more secure, it would probably have more uptime. Anyone see the Oracle vs MS SQL presentation at Blackhat? Yeah, Microsoft won.
Activex makes use of the windows api, so it will work on internet explorer. The second most popular browser is firefox, which, of course, uses xpcom. If 85% of the internet uses internet explorer (correct me if I'm wrong), then what is the point of make the banking system client in xpcom? That's cutting your potential userbase by 85%, which, needless to say, is suicide.
Also, if (like some other person said earlier on this topic) only old people use secure banking, this would further cut your userbase, as most elderly folks don't know jackshit about computers, so they won't be downloading firefox. They think that the whole internet resides in that little blue "e" on their desktop. So there ya go. You've just cut about 95% of your potential userbase. Good job Korea!
"The 'cross platform standards is superior' line is only trotted out when it is against Microsoft."
This is about the smartest thing that any slashdotter has ever said. I applaud you for the truthfulness of your post.
Basically, the rule is "We don't care if it's good or if it even works. If it's not made by Microsoft, we like it. Otherwise, we'll flame it until the rest of the Internet sees things our way."
that would suck. command line on a piece of paper? you would need to plug in your paper keyboard because paper kde would be just awful (not to mention you'd need a paper mouse to do anything useful). also, linux would only be (partially) useful if you plugged your paper computer into a network to download modules and dependancies.
like i said, CE would own
CE on a piece of paper == kickass would return true. you don't need to set it to kickass. CE on a piece of paper already is preset with infinite kickassitude
Who cares that they are creating an XPCOM piece of shit? Why dont they just make a web-based thing that would work for all browsers. And seriously, you people are such hypocrites. XPCOM doesnt work on IE, and activex doesnt work on Firefox. So that instantly makes Firefox better? Give me a break.
Really, Sri Lanka isn't doing it because they want to. I'll bet half the people in Sri Lanka don't even know what Linux is. They probably just hate Microsoft like every/. person (and just like every/. person, they don't exactly know why).
And who ever heard of setting aside a day or days to celebrate computer software? That's gotta be the single stupidest thing I've ever heard.
Sorry guys, in the end, Linux loses.
ok, i tried to reply to this post, but apparently slashdot is run by a bunch of OSS-zealots who can't stand the opposition, and the moderators deleted my reply.
what i said in my original post is that your so called "neutral" study is totally biased, and you are a hypocrite for labeling it as neutral. if you will look at the bottom of the article of your Linux vs Windows comparison, you will notice that the author is an editorial director of LinuxWorld. how could you consider such an article written by that author to be neutral?
you anti-ms zealots are fighting a hopeless battle, because in the end, quality software developed by capitalists beats poorly written free crapware (linux) any day.
Have everyone install Windows. The world would be a much safer place without the bug-ridden opensource crap that plagues our computers.

Then it surprises me that you don't use windows.
sorry, i assumed you used kde because it doesnt completely suck like gnome does :)

...but it will only reach its full potential once Microsoft gets ahold of it. Windows CE on a piece of paper == kickass :P
