I'm guilty. I remember my first automated email script. I forgot to advance the recordset on a loop function. I sent myself 10,000+ emails. Thank God I was the first name in the table. My boss was next.
In order for there to be a shake up in search, Google or Bing doesn't have to lose. Someone just needs to sell his or her amazing idea to Google or Bing.
As I take it, the problem isn't the companies but the technology used.
I've seen you comment on several of these Google articles. I went back and checked your comments to see if you have given any specifics, and you haven't. I did see that you've claimed not to be a shill. Ok. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but back up what you are saying. What are the privacy concerns of G+ that are worse than FB? If you don't give verifiable specifics, you do come off like you are spreading fud.

The first really legitimate complaint I've heard that actually affects the user. The reaction to the blackbar seems over the top. I don't like it that much either, but it's a 30px bar at the top of the page.
I think it's a funny design decision (we are all talking about it though, so maybe it's right on the mark.), but saying Google has forsaken its austere home page seems silly. Has anyone seen the epileptic fit waiting to happen on Yahoo's home page?
I see why you took my comment that way. I don't think Facebook is inherently evil. I do think they don't care much about their users. My comment was a more generic response to the gp. Ethical stands tend to go out the window with enough cash on the table.
Potential Employee: I don't like your company's ethical position.
Employer: The dump truck with your money is headed to your house, should he just dump it in your pool?
Potential Employee: Uh...but couldn't you be better?
Since I'm on MythTV I suppose the solution to this is to just put some cron jobs on it that cancel live TV playback during school hours.
If all boxes could do that, we'd also see the crisis in our education system averted, as the kids have no reason to stay home anymore...well, I guess you'd have to hack PlayStations to not play during the day too, but that shouldn't be too hard.
Although the EPA has established Energy Star standards for set-top boxes and has plans to tighten them significantly by 2013, cable providers and box manufacturers like Cisco Systems, Samsung and Motorola currently do not feel consumer pressure to improve box efficiency."
I know this is all panacea, but wouldn't it be nice if these companies did in spite of pressure from consumers. I don't know much about these boxes, but it doesn't seem like a task that would cost them very much to change.
If they won't do it for the energy savings of their costumers, then maybe one of the will make the shift, and get to put a big green sticker on the front saying their box is "green". That would bump their sales enough to offset the cost.
This is a tempest in a teapot. I have already marked Groupon as having a low priority in my Priority Inbox, so that is where that comes in. I also get Google Offers. The first time it came in as important. I then marked it unimportant, and it never showed up there again.
If Google kept putting their deals in my priority inbox, I would have been upset.
Now if they had marked my mother-in-law's emails as important, I would have gone back to hotmail.
In this instance, the call would be whether or not Google is a monopoly for the email market. They aren't even in first place, so it would be hard for us to call them a monopoly wouldn't it?
Maybe I should clarify. In MOST states in the US, public money doesn't pay for the majority of athletics. Most schools rely on athletic boosters and gate money to pay for their athletic teams. I live and teach in Georgia, and our schools only pay for facilities and coach stipends, which are in the range of $1,000 to $3000 depending on the level and sport.
My point was that many communities are willing to spend a lot of money for sports and very little for the arts.
In the US sports aren't funded by the school system except for the facilities and small stipends for coaches. What I find interesting is how willing the community is to help fund sports but bet the arts.
Often we blame schools for larger social problems.
If you need a basket type session before this point then can you not use session id's in the url?
I haven't read the new rules, but wouldn't this be the same thing as tracking through a session cookie? I'm curious if this is still covered in the rules. It would be a trivial thing to use the url based tracking string and pass it to the third party from the server. Would that be allowed?

Why not have a games tab? So users can interact with the games if they want, but you aren't spanned with the crap all the time.
Ok, I'm bracing for a crayon comment or some flaming, but I'm one of those script kiddies trying to move onwards and upwards.
I've read a lo about data, but the stuff I've found is all over the place. Can you point me in a good direction to start understanding data better?
Well, with the way the US dollar is going, you probably could get it for a million pounds.
I just tried this and got an error message saying there was an error processing the data. Maybe just a glitch.

Maybe if the Brits can pull this off, we'll see some limited trials in the US soon...maybe.
Jokes come in all shapes and sizes. Some are even ugly and dumb.
You should have bolded Windows, but with no mouse I guess you couldn't find the really dark B...
I wish slashdot had a +1 love button.

Never underestimate what a little rationalization and a whole mound of cash can do to help you swallow the line they are selling.
Maybe Mark Zuckerberg saw a status update that said, "I should hire GeoHot because my security sucks.
He also has a grand total of one blog post.

Won't people still be able to sideload it? They just removed it from the Market.

Isn't filing suit more of a parallel to arrest in the criminal courts? That generally happens as soon as incriminating evidence is found.
