I've worked at a local community college helping people who are 50 + with there first exposer to the minefield of current computer interfaces. These people are not stupid, but because of their unfamiliarity and fear they occasionally ask obvious and stupid questions. Too be portrayed as fools is an injustice. My 80 year old stepfather commonly used to laugh and treat as if I was a fool because I didn't know some fact about farming being discussed. To him I should have initiatively known the farm lingo and life. I surely didn't like being put down for my ignorance. Further more, I had an interest in his wisdom. But this interest was soured by his attitude. We want to encourage people not humiliate them.
More software that's makes money needs to be developed. If Midwest cattle farmers raised beef cattle out of altruistic love for say NYC citizens, people in NY would starve (except maybe the vegetarians). If Linux users think everything should be free then they will figuratively starve too. That is not too say I don't like the open source movement, I do. It's just that more companies need to be started to address the things that need changing. Greed is good
It's about Knuth expressing his Christian faith from a computer scientists point of view. He took every 3:16 verse in the bible and researched what various theologians had to say about and then put it in a book. He explains how the process relates to computer science and also touches on other theological and philosophical subjects. I can't wait until 5 and 6 when free will is discussed along with AI. Being a Computer science major (3rd year) and also an amateur theologian, I find this whole thing very interesting.
