jee...isn't it strange micro$oft had to consider back compatability dos...3.x...95...98..ect... i wonder if gnu/linux GUI's are headind down that road.
Algore(run together on purpose) was pushing for just that but was givin the big cold sholder by silicon valley who he was corting.(rightly so by the way for reasons mentioned by others):)
I have seen that study what you and it fail to take into account is that it is our lifestyle not our healthcare that is the problem. Anyway i would rather live 60 years free than 80 under a government like Cuba that has socialized medicine. Because, in the end socialist will never be happy until they control every aspect of modern life; government is the answer to all. And by the way States were it makes since (My state of NY) they are deregulating the power industry
it is our fault heres why...

As long as we sit behind our computers and just bitch about these things and not take direct action of making public statements outside geek forums like slashdot we are all guilty of getting what we get. I was watching c-span tonight and I saw corporate interest after corporate interest represented but no one with an other prospective; the consumers perspective. This was a joint senate house committee on technology and economic policy. Were was the opposing view? We need to stand up and be counted. We need to demand access. Remind these bastards we Vote and all the corporate money in the world wont help them when we vote their collective asses out at the ballot box. We need to take it back.
This shows how absurd the goveremnt foray into the market is. Congress was set up to be slow.. slower than market. It cant predict market forces. the Reasons for an FCC are long gone. tech moves at pace that if your compeditor crowds him out you inavate around him. Just look at the end of the article expected 750 million for auction of airwaves...i guess that excludes me an some guys in my garage. The less goverment the better.
I'm a big fan of the author of this piece. Having subscribed to Reason magazine I am very much acquainted with her writing. What I find ironic is that while doing research for a paper on anti-trust laws, The most pro-Microsoft anti government writer I could find were in Reason....Some by this author Now is her love for open-source a contradiction. NO! She believes as I do that that open source is a sound business model when the right circumstances exist. And she believes as I do that the less government the better. Im glad more people are getting it (Marxist posters execluded)
In economic terms You are talking about a products "utility" comparing the utility of hamburgers to direct access diskdrive is not quite thoughout eithier...if the products were substitutes for each other maybe.
I used to medicate my manin with alchol...ive been sober now for 10 years if this is what your doing you really need to seek some help. this can be very dangerous...I love mania..when i dont is when i can reflect on the recklessness it has brought to my life..and you are lucky you dont crash and might not even be manic but hyper active but in eithier case its the swings that is the problem the inconsitinsey. good luck to you
lithium is not affective on me..i cant get a theraputic dose becasue it would be a dangoursly high levels...this can cause kidney damage. i tried this about 5 years. i have also tried depakote i was at one time on 5000 mil..this was gradually dosed up...if a person took that much right off it would knock then out for 2 days it took that to keep me stable mood wise but unfortually made me not able to function well. neurotin..tried that too same problem. thankyou for the advice its well apreciated
Having bi-polar disorder makes my life hell. When manic I stay up for days, have poor judgment am reckless, and at the end not a nice person to be around. Yes you get allot of work done, for you see at first your running around with boundless energy with a euphoria that can be described as the feeling of just having sex...but this feeling last all the time. But it doesn't last forever and you get to high and irritable and even psychotic. Then you crash feeling so depressed death frequently feels like the only way out. I have lost jobs because for 3 months IM the best worker than after that another three months IM the worst employers didn't understand. Well don't they have meds for that? Yes if you like being catatonic uncreative and again unproductive...IM currently in my senior year as a computer science major its taken 5 1/2 years too get here for you see the college cant understand the ups and downs either. I actually had one Prof. say its like you were brilliant last semester but now its like you are retarded am currently in search of meds that give me a chance to do what i love to do. create useful computer programs and be able to do it consistently. I haven't given up hope I know that day will come. AT first I was going to post this anonymously but instead I have decided that IM not going to hide this is who I am.
Being a 3rd year cs major at binghamton University, I personally would love more females in class:)...It's hard to get a date!...seriously it is a problem that needs to be addressed. I think the "geek" image is not appealing to most women. We could use the differnt perspectives that women would bring. Just look at history Ada Lovelace,Grace hopper,..ect
The isp's in my area were started by dedicated men and women that with a small amount of captial grew thier business into a service that help bring our communiy into the future. BUT...cable is here...can these little guys who tinker in their basement afford the equipment..if they dont.. no big company is going to go near a small rural area..the unsong heros who helped propogate the future might soon be priced out of it.
"You could take your entire desktop with you wherever you go, and just pop it into a PC anywhere, connect, and work like you were at home." The base station could run on a transmeta chip emulate your machine and because the network would change it could reconfigure your machines settings to reflect this..true mobile computing...but would your network admin at work let you have that much freedom..We live in interesting times...the Chinese curse has arrived!
First...You dont know the cicumstance i was in...second...I was defending my self and my fellow solider/sailer/airmen...I NEVER onece said i sanctioned WAR plus you sanctomonis ass the people who were aiming those weopons at me must also have been obedient cowards. Go To hell! SIR..
Being an ex-military Fire controll tech let me clue you in on something...They may just apear as images on a scope but in your mind you know that thier is a living being on the recieving end of the weopon you just deployed. They have a mother maybe a wife and kids they are a person just like you...They might even be kids...but that is the burdon of a solider/sailor/airmen...You make it sound like it's something out of the book Ender's Game..let me tell you from first hand experience no matter how it is done it haunts you forever..WAR is never a good thing. But being in the postion to lose one is a worse thing. if this can help keep our troops safe than God bless it!
These companies that are very profitable are going to lose money and go to flat rate scheme that lets you get what the hell you want...WRONG..the issue is that it's not that their loosing money from mp3's (people still by cd's) it's the fact thier loosing control..to quote austin powers Its about "freedom baby Yea"...our freedom..and the artist freedom. Freedom not to have to lick the boots of some corporate thug.
"There is no way that this can be construed as being the function of our Internet connection." I find this statement to be amazing. the internet is what it is. Just because it does't behave the way you want it to is your problem. You could 1. add more bandwith charge the students more for the addition. 2. stay offline... your policy reminds me of the chinease goverments policy...if you give the students the connection and u dont like what thier doing charge them for the extra bandwith.
i think this is the way to spend research money. i am a fan of goverment research (ie internet) but were private sector will pick upthe tab the better for the taxpayers pockets. the money clinton has suggested for nanotech research would be nice if instead of the goverment putting up the money a partnership like this one existed

If they had to prove they are not sluts or drunks in open court i wonder how fast some of the offended parties would rush not to bring charges.
There is a good article in DDJ july 2000 on creating WAP Services.
