    I work for a school myself as an IT director. Before you get too far into making a custom filter you need to familiarize yourself with CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act). If you are working at a school receiving public money you have to follow CIPA to a "T" or your school may lose its E-rate funding which is likely paying for the internet access in the first place.

    I keep getting cold calls at my office from EMC. About once a week the same representative calls wanting to know what EMC can do for us. Despite my telling her that she called me the week before and the answer is the same, she then claims she only got the account a few days ago... right. I'd imagine EMC needed Dell more than some people think.

    I just got this error the other day. Fixed it exactly the same was as you fix the 3 red light error, with the x-clamp mod. So error 74 is possibly a much more broad error than the scalar chip or video cable being bad. It would be so easy for them to fix the actual problem that's plaguing the 360. The extra heatsink didn't do it, the smaller chip didn't do it, the lower power power supply didn't do it. Instead 8 bolts, 16 washers, and 16 nylon spacers fix it every time, and appear to prevent it from happening in the first place (though I don't know how that can be absolutely proven).

  17. Re:Power != memory on NVIDIA Makes First 4GB Graphics Card · · Score: 0

    Now I hope you do realize that this is not a gaming card. This is a card for a high end engineering and or a CAD/3D modeling system. You can't compare those type of cards to enthusiast level cards like the 4870. It's like comparing a rice-burner civic to a top fuel drag car.

  18. Everclear on Recovering Moldy Electronics? · · Score: 1

    Just get some everclear. It works great for cleaning electronics as it is so pure, and it is cheaper (depending where you buy it) than isopropyl alcohol. I use it to clean CPUs to get the old heatsink material off. Plus once you've found out that more than likely the capacitors in your equipment are dead you'll have some hard-core booze to make you stop caring for a little while.

    Do they really think people are gonna pay for this? Especially seeing how easy it is to get these type of things from "the usual sources". It's not going to be like windows where your company can get audited. They aren't going to come in looking at blue prints and go "Hey, did you license this layout correctly, it looks like the one in the standards book, and does not appear to have licensing anywhere.". So what's to stop me, or anyone that's laying out a data center, from just "aquiring" this book and using whatever good ideas it may or may not have.
