    The files are stored in
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Index\wmplibrary_v_0_12.db
    I also saw a file wmplibrary_v_0_12.lrd that had my hostname in it, and a file called WMPImage_AlbumArtLarge.

    Actually I use FreeDB so I dont have to give any info out. M$ Didnt even tell users they were being tracked till this article, at least they are going to let people know with an updated privacy statement. We really shouldnt have to wait for someone to point out privacy concerns that the vendor should disclose.

    Yup, logs into a database, gives them an ID based on your computer, your IP, and the multimedia your viewing, also leaves a nice log file on your PC of your activity.

    So no, its a little more than just a mirror of a CDDB database. The traffic is bi-directional, and leaves a log trail.

    I upgrade my p75 to a netgear router, and my Ping went from 30ms to 10ms. I even tried that freesco floppy router, same thing.
    People say that they make good routers, but I want the lowest ping for games. So maybe older machines might good firewalls, if you dont care about ping. Some good benchmarks on firewall/nat latency would be nice. Hell, I still got a sparc 20 that makes a good X terminal, but ill use machines built for low latency firewalls.

    The biggest problem with spam, is that people get PAID for spamming. Companies offer people MONEY to spam you, then they innocently say that spammer didnt read the standard no-spam policy.

    According to the Chinese engineer, Cisco came through, developing a router device, integrator, and firewall box specially designed for the government's telecom monopoly. At approximately $20,000 a box, China Telecom "bought many thousands" and IBM arranged for the "high-end" financing. Michael confirms: "Cisco made a killing. They are everywhere."

    Humm, guess its time to Boycott Cisco and IBM.

    Serverside, but it is java. What lack of Java games? Almost all web games are either flash or java!

    I have millions+ customers being server on a handful of java programs. The only problem I have is jvm for Solaris seems to leak memory, so we load balance and restart the java processes once a day. We did it once a month, but decided to make it nightly to be safe with the high volume of traffic. (And sys-admins are lazy!)

    Most times its not the language that's the problem, its the environment, either os bugs, or some other software incompatibility.

    Java seems to be fast enought for realtime mission critial apps, so stop the fud.

    Really, thats the same with all laptops. They all use some sort of recover CDs and/or hidden paritions. Just buy the laptop for the hardware, and get another copy of the OS. Your life will be much easier if you dont rely on the vendors installed image.

    BTW, the vario is a good laptop. One of the best out.

    Wrong, linux isnt a vendor its an OS. Any vendor who wont chip in 10 cents on a install/recover OS CD, should go out of business. Just because the vendor is big, doesnt make them good. The smaller companies who do linux workstations give sets of cds, with lots of extra applications.

    I personally hope more consumers get burned by this. Until the average joe computer buyer discovers the heart aches we have to deal with, nothing will change. How many times have you heard, "Why are they picking on poor Microsoft, they are just doing business?"

    not reslly, the cards do ok in directx already, its opengl that they have a hard time on.

    Most 3dfx users (I have a voodoo5) use WickedGL drivers for opengl games.

    Well, For linux on mac vs linux on x86, x86 is cheaper and faster. If you check out pricewatch you can good hardware at very affordable prices. I bought many 350+ dollar 1ghz pc's.

    If its not the money, support for linux on x86 is better.

    We had a problem, we allowed people to send you an sms email to your phone at phonenumber@company.com. Normal service, people wanted to get email'ed alerts for stocks, messages from the wife/gf etc. To fight spam we put up message que that checks to see if the sender is sending over 10 emails to different accounts. It filters out most spam. We did have to tweak settings for people who do dispatch services to employees.

    The other method we did, we added a random 5 digit number to a persons phone number. So if your phone number was 2025551212 it would be 2025551212-01234. This blocked all brute force spam techniques. The customer knew what thier subscriber id was, and it was safe from prying eyes.

    Im tired of spam, using the same email address for over 6 years, my daily spam count is over 100. Spam and tele-marketers are the worst.

    Noticed the screenshots ran IceWM as its window manager. Rather easy for non unix users to understand and start using also.

    Microsoft has a computer pad called the Mira, its not really a PC, but uses winxp's built in terminal services to allow you to view video/audio and surf the web. Heres a link for the Mira

    I think the kids could use a Aqua as a seperate computer, they could use it for IM, Email, Web, maybe attach a keyboard or some kind of docking station when they need to use it for more indepth work. If the prices where right, and could beat a 300-400 dollar computer system from pricewatch then I could see myself buying it. Unless its a geek impluse buy for myself. :)

    Even thou people are working on portable hardware, the remote desktop control is either TightVNC or MS Remote Desktop. And M$ Remote desktop is much quicker, plays video, audio and games over a lan network. Not knocking tightvnc, I use it on my unix and solaris boxes. Good thing the Aquapad runs WinXP, that will secure some good sales in the non-linux markets.
