    My dirty joke email is the only decent email I get all day! And if your spending 49 minutes a day on junk mail, you need to learn how to use filters. Damn IT (aka desktop nazi's)!, they put up proxies so I cant surf pr0n or pop my email, they filter my exchange email for jokes/exe's, they run startup domain scripts to install bigbrother software, whats next keyloggers and ankle chains?! BTW, to fight IT, I ssh tunnel to my home linux box, and run a proxy, I disabled login scripts, and put jokes/exe's inside of word docs.
    I quit when they get ankle chains!

    What anonymity? All those calls are logged. And pay phones that are suspect for drug use are often wiretapped legally for a suspect. But your calls are innocently recorded also. (-;

    Dont forget, good credit gets you 10 cents a minute, poor or no credit gets you a pre-paid phone with 35 cents a minute. So even if phones are free, the minutes will cost more for lower income brackets, thus keeping cell phones out of lower income urban areas.

    Timmy go dial 911, mommys hurt and needs medical attention. Opps, no payphone, no cell coverage.

    This is not a rumor, but some cell site techs wont fix sites at night. So if your mobile base station is down in east LA, its staying down till the next business day.

    Large companies, buy computers with Office/Windows installed on them. Now lets say after 2 years, the computers switch, the company is sold, people leave, new hires.
    M$ use the "Guilty till Proven Innocent" method on many businesses.
    What other business makes you prove that you own your equipment? Does SUN stop by and ask you to prove that each SUN Box has a licensed copy of solaris? No they give the OS away, they sell the support.
    TIME is money, and if M$ goes after people, they should have to PROVE that there is shady business deals going on. Just cause M$ says "JUMP" companies shouldnt bend over and let Billy G take 'em for a ride.
    There seems to be a large trend of "Nannyhood" going on here. Large groups monitoring and keeping track of your business. All in the name of the customer. This doesnt only apply to Software Piracy, it applys to every aspect of our lives.
    People need to start to seeing beyond the issues, and see how this "Nanny" movement is starting to control our lives.
    Ok, enough of a rant, I'm extremely tired of Big Brother and Big Mother spoon feeding information to JQ Public.

    I've started filtering webpages because of all the popup ads. I was using junkbusters for awhile, but then ran across this windows proxy Proxomitron @ http://spywaresucks.org/prox/
    The program gives me even more control than just filtering ads, it rewrites the page on the fly. My favorie is "Allow right mouse button" "Anti-tracker filter", "Show/Allow move frames" and the other cookie features. There are too many features to list, but surfing is much faster now, and I now have control the content.

    BTW, Havnt seen a /. ad in months.
    (I think I'll make a filter to allow ads for slashdot, I had to hit the bypass button to see where the Ads where. hehehe)

    I heard that DirectPC has a download cap. When you reach the download cap, your speeds lower to modem speed.

    Aka, you download a Linux ISO, and you get 40K/sec for the first 200megs, and after that its 2K/sec for an hour or so.

    I was told, imagine a bucket of water with a hole in the bottom, when you fill it, you have to wait for it to empty.

    If there was as much interest in X/VNC as streaming video, we wouldnt be having this discussion.

    And yes, I currently use X/SSH over a 56K link, works fine for multiple xterms and some netscape guis.

    Any idea on where you can get some information on how exchange protocols work? What makes it tick?

    We have open codecs for realplayer, quicktime, mpeg4/divx. Not counting the normal ones ftp/http/smtp/pop/etc...

    Seems by now, someone would have an opensource method or reverse engineer of exchange.

    The Insurance companies play god every day, and mostly in the name of almighty dollar.
    I hear alot about "Rights", who makes them? The insurance companies.
    When someone takes the rights away from people based on any criteria, your no better than the racists nazi's.
    I see no difference between denying the medical attention needed because someone was marked high-risk. Should we just put a little yellow star on them? Black, Yellow, DNA-X, you should have the same "Right" as everyone on earth to medical attention.

    You cant pick your genetic makeup. Soon we will have to base our society on DNA. Its not the person with the better skills, its the one who has the lower genetic factors.

    Seems to be alot of "genetic" racists on /.

    Genetic Engineering isnt bad, its how companies use it. When companies use it to control people, either directly or indirectly that should concern everyone.

    Some of the evils that corporations want to use.
    Seeds that only gestate once.
    Jobs based on your genetic composition.
    Health Insurance based on your genetic composition. (HMO's would love this.)
    Criminal behavior flagged. (What is criminal?)

    Do we need Afirmative action for the genetic level now?

    How many people watch the superbowl just for the commercials? How many times do they cut something interesting from NFL Games? All the damn time... At least 4 times during the superbowl when a fight broke out, they cut away immediately!
    If I'm spending 3 hours on a damn game, it better be more impressive than the commercials!
    Also these XFL players are real football players, they play AFL, other minor leagues, even college football. These guys practiced for FREE for months, and now only make 5K per game.
    No matter what, the XFL seems to be a nice uncut game of football, with out the sissy NFL rules.

    Oh yea, Cute cheerleaders too boot.

    Companies will keep the changes proprietary information. Look the fight companies put up about labeling milk produced by cows given BGH.
    Also, there is talk about making seeds that are only good once. So farmers have to buy seeds each planting season. Poor countries would be indebt forever.
    Well, we just have to wait and see.
