I choose organic because it tastes batter!
Organic produce tends to be more flavorful.
My favorite example is chicken. In the US, cheap factory farm raised chicken has an almost spongy consistency, and tastes rather bland. Organic, free range chicken is much tougher and flavorful, I don't mind paying more for food that I will enjoy more.
Another example is beef. Cattle that graze on grass produce beef that just tastes better. In addition, the meat contains more CLA (healthy fat) than corn fed.
Finally, I feel better about my decision. For animals that are bred to die, at least I know they weren't cooped up all their life. I believe happy animals produce better tasting meat:)
You're right, taxpayers shoudn't have to pay for health care costs!
I also think the GP was right about using zoning regulations against Wal Mart.
The government seems to be a bad vehicle for effecting change on the private market in this instance. You should tell your story more loudly and hopefully people will shop at Target instead.
Most often corrupt cops are not turned in by their own department because of the "blue shield." Cops do not usually rat out their friends. But this is harmful, and could go both ways. The citizens could become organized, kill cops and any witnesses would never testify because of the new "anti-blue shield" and people just got fed up with the cops BS.
Nintendo, the developers that brought us The Legend of Zelda and it's sequel. Without those two games we might not even be here disscussing the effects of the "adventure" genre.
Good point, if the government gets really corrupt, the citezens are screwed anyway. You also say corporations will do what they can get away with. Also true, as long as they are making money, they can stay in business and encroach on our privacy... but so can the government! From your post, I conclude that having private companies manage our data is better because we can choose which company to deal with easier than we can choose which government to be governed by. If a company goes belly up personal data probably will be bought on the black market from that company and there is a privacy breach... but if a country goes belly up... like you said, privacy is the least of our concerns...
For instance the USSR breakup... today I'm STILL concerned about the enriched uranium getting to the black market! Much scarier than consumer information, I'd say.
-There's a reason the Austrian school has been a fringe theory of economics in every society (except ironically under the National Socialists).-
Maybe my university is no good, but the undergraduate director of Economics taught us quite a bit of "neo-classical" Austrian theory... I wouldn't call it a fringe theory. If anything, I WANT that to be taught, because until then all we learned in school was Keynesian econ. Even if it is poor at predicting the economy, it is good to know the other side of the coin.
You're the tool here! You'd be willing to buy property, then have armed guards force off tresspassers trying to BREATHE, just because there is no government forcing you to share doesn't mean you can't have the kindess in your heart to help your fellows out;).
Anyway, I feel the big assumption zogger is making is that in an anarchy free market, the consumers will remain stupid (not a _bad_ assumption, consumers are mostly stupid in this not-so-free market of ours, but who's to say that this would be different in a land where, let's say corporations don't have "rights" as individuals do?). Zogger is correct that in an anarchy, there is no longer a government creating a disincentive to pollute, and I think the point Frank_adriane is trying to make is that the pollution won't just stay on the private property, but will eventually hurt the entire ecosystem (also true). But in a free market, I know I would choose to buy products (and fuel the growth) from individuals who cared about the Earth and didn't pollute, even if they commanded a price premium!
Now here is what is the _real_ problem of a free market: it gives humanity what it _really_ wants. If people mostly valued the environment, polluting individuals would find themselves out of business. But if people really only care about how cheap something is for short term gain and couldn't care less about the long-term socio-environmental ramnifications, then we will end up with an ozone hole and global warming (but we'll have nice things until then:P).
Government intervention in markets therefore should be altruistic and intended to protect us (the "ignorant masses") from ourselves and our own myopic, self-destructive tendancies.
Sorry, I have to side against the IRS here. Yes, they are poor tax evaders! Here the government is trying to steal their money (taxes == stealing, one group loses, another one gains), and they have every moral right to keep their hard earned cash! You try to color these "tax evaders" in an evil light with phrases like "they cheat the system so we have to pay more." But you assume that it is right for the government to steal our money in the first place, which I disagree with.
I used to play games because they were fun and they taught me a thing or two about computers (menu manipulations and such, using hotkeys). Now I find coding to be much more educational, and girls to be much more fun. Games are obsolete!
Castlevania is an obscure title now? Ever since the original NES game in 1986, Konami's Castlevania has been known for beautiful graphics, well composed music and engaging game play. Don't troll about this game being "obscure" merely because it as available on a Nintendo platform.
Nice post! I never looked at it that way. I always thought: "those poor country folk get screwed by high price broadband." Now I realize that the "poor city folk" get screwed as well by high home rates, and as you put it, it is just another trade-off.
Streaming video files (.asf, IIRC) were brought about to deliver pornographic video content when modems were king. The technology spilled over and I remember many video clips being in a streaming format. Eventually, this got killed by DivX and such, but for a while we got a video standard from porn websites.
The article seems to think that the USSR would design a better GUI than the ones we have now. At least it didn't say:
"In Soviet Russia, GUIs design YOU!"
[sarcasm]
What's that? You accuse Zonk of submitting a poorly written review of a game? Stop all this Zonk bashing, he is totally the best editor on Slashdot! His stories are always great, even the second time around. [/sarcasm]
One of the reasons that so many people still play Diablo ii is because that Blizard still supports it actively. Blizzard released the 1.11 version patch for Diablo ii, adding more features for us all to waste time finding. It is very nice of Blizzard to improve a product that is over 5 old (because I know a certain large company that does "extended support" after 5 years).

I'd say Seanbaby is a game trashing professional.
Nice, some real world advice on how to talk to girls from Slashdot.

Speaking of final draft, I hear Zonk is working on the edit^H^H^H^H dupe of this article for tomorrow.
