A rectangle with rounded corners is intellectual property?
I like to see the pay offs at the patent office. A rectangle with rounded corners has been around for decades if not longer. Look at furniture tables. Monitors have been in a rectangle shape with rounded corners long before tablet computers existed. Those are displaying things. They are not hand held. Laptops themselves are rectangle shaped with rounded corners. Three examples of prior art right there. Two of them are in the computing field. How again was that patent granted?
And to quote Mr. Jobs: Good artists copy. Great artists steal. That is from the guy running the ship. Does anyone think that Apple didn't take someone else idea and patent it first?
Look at the gun patents from the 1800s. A small change and a new patent was issues. Patents were clear. They were not vague. Did different manufactures sue each other? Sure. But those cases were settled one way or another really fast. All the manufacture got to make their guns. Apple wants to stop all other manufactures from making anything that Apple sells. Apple is getting patents that are as wide as possible to discourage any other company from entering the market. The patent system someone how went from protecting the little guy from the big company to a tool for big companies to whack everyone else in the head with.
You have small clients. That is fine. But a 2 drive 6tb max solution may not be what other people need or want. And it is RAID 1, so the 6TB is misleading it is really 3TB (unless they now have a 6TB dive out). I keep hitting a wall with the 2 drive solutions. That are not big enough. Then again I am dealing with videos not word documents. That is really the issue for companies and people to answer. How much space is enough? For me I am probable going to go FreeNAS. It is for my own use anyway. I just want to have the videos available to use and free up space on the DVR system.
On a side note has anyone used those red WD dives? They look good for the NAS on paper. Reality is often different.
China has not had a history of projecting its occupation forces well beyond its borders. Sure, China has invaded Tibet and is threatening to do the same with Taiwan and some puny islands near the Philippines. But unlike the US and the old European empires, China has not sent its armed forces across continents to conquer people of vastly different cultures. And you can't talk about China's "100 years of humiliation" without taking into account fiercely pro-American Taiwan, political heirs to the government that the Communist Party kicked out of the mainland. The Communists have been in power only since 1949, well short of 100 years.
Genghis Khan. Granted that was almost 800 years ago, bu it has happened before.
You are right that enormous new deposits have opened up in recent decades (Australia, Siberia), and although the new producers are not part of the DeBeers cartel, they know which side their bread is buttered on and informally collude with it to keep the prices fixed, rather than underselling for volume. (This is a good example how unregulated, or ineffectively regulated, markets tend naturally toward price fixing cartels, not competition.)
I would disagree. The new mines are smaller then all of Debeers. So if they try to under sell DeBeers, DeBeers can flood the market and drive the new mines out of business. Then DeBeers can walk in and buy those now in trouble mines. If those new mines were on the same scale as all of DeBeers you might have a point.
Think of it this way: You design and build a car that gets 100 miles per gallon. The starting price of the car will be around $25,000 for the base model and for you to make a profit. The other auto makers slash the prices of their cars. Their $30,000 cars now sell for $18,000. Many people say that $7000 is a lot of gas and since their $30,000 car had more features then your base model, you do not sell enough cars to stay in business. Then the big auto makers come in and buy you out.
Just wait until the pharmaceutical lobbyists get our clueless lawmakers to make protein synthesis illegal.. Then, the next step will be to make the lymphatic system illegal too. Illegal copying of cells is a violation of copyright law.
You mean people will have to get permission to have kids? Please let that happen. Watching/reading the news about how hard it is to enforce will be funny. A pregnant woman crosses/lands into the country, police STOP! Do you have permission to duplicate those cells? Here is your $1000 fine. The lady swings what ever she is carrying and smacks the police officer in their head. It will be like a 3 stooges comedy routine, only funnier.
What do you think makes most of the electricity? Burning dinosaurs or old plants. Plus how is one to power that electric motor? Fill the entire van with batteries? The electric motor to move that van would have to be huge. Or have 4 smaller ones one on each wheel. I could see replacing the old engine with a more efficient one. That would mean losing space under the hood for the extra stuff modern engines have.
Try the ele with air (lightning) magic. That first skill once fires keeps on firing constantly until you move out of range or what you are fighting dies. Or you die. You can also fire other skills while the first one fire is still going. I really thought it was cheating it was that simple and fun.
*note they may have changed this. I have not tried the beta in a few months
Waiting to see if Apple gets the same treatment. After all Apple is in the dominant position in the tablet market. Many would say the smartphone and mp3 markets as well. Apple even gets courts to block other companies from bringing in a competing product. Is that not considered abuse? Even Apple has said that the ipod/iphone sales have lead to higher Apple computer sales.
Does Apple have a real server anymore? I see a single CPU (up to 12 cores) or the mini server. Most people I know would call either machine a big server. Eight memory slots is not a lot. For a workstation is it fine (the apple Mac Pro). When we have people requiring 500GB of RAM and 48 cores minimum (usually they go a lot higher on the server ordered), Apple is lacking.
Actually, the EU has a history going after foreign companies in order to promote/protect EU companies. Read up the the wine wars. The EU was downplaying US and Australian wines to promote European wines. Even after the EU wine judges were picking the US and Australian wines as the better wines. Now if the US was to do something similar, the EU would be suing the US.
I thought the line was "Need parts! Kill the fat one." not kill the little one.
If they can reuse parts from older satellites or reuse the old satellites that would be a good thing. They may be able to get rid of some of the bigger "space junk" that is up there. I am not sure if anything can be done with the paint chips and other smaller parts zipping around up there. Making a space dragger like the fishing boat dragger would also "catch" useful satellites.
Also the illegal immigrants usually do not want to blend in, or be part of the US. They keep their original language. They wan the US to adapt to them. The legal immigrants usually adapt to the US. They make an attempt at learning English. They try to fit in.
what's the difference between legal and illegal migration ?
I really hope you are not serious.
But in case you were, legal immigration is getting permission, a visa or some paperwork from the embassy to move to that country. You plan on getting citizenship in that country. That process can take months or years. Illegal immigration is just going there and hoping to not get caught.
Personal experience and observations. In the people that I know there have been 34 serious accidents. 28 of those a woman was driving at the time. Serious is the car/truck being driven was totaled. Of those 28 4 times the driver was killed. I sort of say those were serious. In the 6 male driver accidents, no one killed. The car/truck being driven was also totaled.
If you count non serious the numbers go way up for the women that I know. Hell my sister has been in 12 accidents so far. Only 1 serious. The rest minor. But still. The science is tainted and biased by the insurance companies. Simply put historically, men got their drivers license first (not true today but back in the 1940s,50s,60s, 70s it was). So men got into accidents since there were more male drivers. Men can have a temper. So do women, but that is ignored. Men have a reputation of being aggressive drivers. Women can be aggressive drivers too, but that is ignored. So men have higher insurance rates then women. And people keep on telling the myth that women are safer drivers.
Those people take often take better care of the car then they do people.
I think the parent leaves their car outside in the elements. Not everyone has a garage to keep their car in. Many apartment/condo places do not have a place to wash your car, so you have to go to a car wash. I have always found that hand washing and waxing does a better job then a car wash does. Just my personal experience with my 11 year old car that people think is 1-2 years old. I also not have a garage. I just wash it at least once a month and wax it 3-4 times a year.
Take car of your car both cosmetically and mechanically.. It should last and look good if you do.
Voting is a right that citizens have. You are supposed to go out and vote. The whole civil duty thing. I know not all of people work places allow people to show up late or go home early since they are voting. I have had to take a day or half a day off to vote. I do not remember anything about voting being convenient. Get up, go to the voting place with your voter reregistration card and ID and vote. Where I live you need to show ID to vote. That may not be the case where you live.
Not all I am sure but many of the foreign student (esp the Chinese that I see) only hang around other people of their country. They only speak English when forced too. I have even seen them write their papers in Chinese. Then run a translator program to make it English then turn it in. When the professor grades the paper poor due to the translator program no being 100% perfect, they complain and show them the paper written in Chinese and say it is correct there. This happen at the end of every semester. Most of the time the more willing to fit in to the US foreign students take them in and set them straight. It is really odd to walk into a room here and only here Chinese, or Hindi, or Arabic, or Parsi.
Many companies will not even look at your resume if you don't have a MS, PhD, or certification in . Even if you do train yourself and you are really good at it, you will get overlooked by the HR department for not having the right credentials on your resume.
It really sucks when a masters degree is the new high school diploma in the eyes of HR.
I have seen many people with lots of schooling and certifications who could not do anything. Well they spouted off buzzwords and tried to confuse people with jargon. When push came to shove they failed. In reality they may of had the training, but they did not know how or where to apply that training. I wish more places would let the people in the trenches at the company hire the new person. At least then you could weed out most of the clueless ones early on.
I have read about and actually know three people who do this. They vote in more then one state. It makes no sense since they are supposed to have a primary residence. That primary residence is where they vote. I was told that they own property in a few states. That entitles them to vote on local issues in those states. Since they can vote on local issues, they also vote for the president in all of those states. They see nothing wrong with it. How many people do this?
Well since those collecting unemployment checks are being paid by the government, I'd call them government workers. As a government worker they should have to take random drug tests to collect those checks. After all working people have to pass random drugs tests to pay for those checks. Those in government housing (section 8 housing) they should not be able to set the place up as they lease. They are like a collage dorm. All those 55+ inch TVs they got to go. The $2000 (a rim) rims on your 10 year old car, those are out too. Those 'designer' clothes sorry but you are getting a free house, free food, free clothes, free money, you are a government worker and the government should say what you can do with the money being handed to you. IF you want to spend money any way you want, go out and get a job. That money you earn. What you earn is yours.
I have seen some section 8 places where the people there live better then the rest of us. They have no incentive to change. That should not be the case. They should want to get out of that situation. Putting restrictions on what they can do should happen.
