  1. I don't use it because of the --force flag on Automatix Kicks Ubuntu into Gear · · Score: 2, Informative

Automatix is convenient in a newbie, but the fact it uses the --force flag makes me uncomfortable and at times it can cause breakage. So I would recommend if you are comfortable with ubuntu, just install the stuff yourself, but for newbies the pro's can outweight the con's.

  3. Ebay vs. Google ...saw this coming on Google Developing Database Service · · Score: 1

With Ebay's somewhat weird purchase of Skype for a whole bucketload of money, it seemed weird, and while trying to figure out the move, I really thought it was a defensive move at Google, and this kind of confirms it. I think Ebay knew Google was going to integrate classifieds, it is natural step (not so out of google's nature like most people say, because the basis behind classifieds is search believe it or not). With the classifieds and the google online payment system, ebay felt a need to counter whatever they felt google was going and that was with the purchase of Skype. It counters google talk (google talk will develop way beyond version 1) and will integrate nicely with the other services of google like classifieds and online payment. Im not sure how successful it will be, but I like competition and will be fun to watch it play out.

  4. Think its about instant message..MSN + AIM on Microsoft to Buy Stake in AOL · · Score: 4, Interesting

Probably a nice investment for MS if they can combine their msn messenger users with AOL's instant messenger users. Would be quite dominant, and who knows the services they will think of to generate money from that. I have read countless articles about younger people not using emails these days, and using just instant messaging, noticed this specifically when I travelled to Korea this summer.

just to let you know...I evacuated from New Orleans to Houston, Texas, I brought an extra tshirt and shorts and my powerbook G4. I tried to register via online and of course the stupid thing required internet explorer 6. So I had to call the toll free number which was inundated and took me hours. Also to check in on your account, you can loging with pin -password but of course it requires IE 6. Agency is just moronic.

I think between Monday and Wednesday security and emergency relief should have been swarming into Louisiana, if the hurricane was still somewhere in Ohio...no reason logistically they could not send it in from the west, unless the country is strung out from deployment to other countries, or the they did not just act in a prudent manner. Anyways when a majorj catastrophe like this strikes 5 days to start to fully deploy is unacceptable, I would have thought after Sept. 11, and Homeland Security the organziation would have been far more efficient.

Meant -- He could have certainly been in his office, yelling at FEMA and the other agencies to act in a more urgent / organized manner like they are doing today on (Friday Sept 2), on Wednesday (August 31) - rather then coming back from vacation ...which would have made a world of a difference. Bush doesnt micromanage, but do you think it is a coincidence that the manpower and relief is flowing in immediatgely prior to his visit to the area?

don't know who to blame, but the federal government were definitely slow in acting (why the f*ck was Bush on vacation until Wednesday when he declared Louisiana a disaster area before the hurricane hit Louisiana?). I was one of the fortunate ones to evacuate on Sunday and staying in Houston with my family in a hotel. The gravitude of the situation is sinking in, realizing we cannot go back home for months. Don't have enough money to stay past next week at the hotel, no idea if our house is up in New Orleans. I was in school in New Orleans, no idea when it will start again. It is scary situation...
