  1. Re:Before everyone freaks on Things Get Worse at Fukushima · · Score: 1

well, we are orbiting the sun, so just kind of "letting go" of something lighter than ourselves would cause it to shoot off into interstellar space.. kind of like if you sat on the edge of a fast-spinning carousel and dropped a pebble, it would go flying away. Of course there's nothing attracting things toward the center of the carousel in the example, but the same principal probably applies to an extent*.

*And if anyone is thinking that all things in the galaxy would accelerate towards the sun at the same pace, consider that if you placed Jupiter and Earth at the same distance from the sun such that they would get sucked in, Jupiter would reach the sun first. Both the Earth and Jupiter have their own significant gravity wells. In fact everything has a gravity well, but anytime I try to give this example using small objects, idiots keep objecting with their basic high school science class memories. So basically if we had something smaller than the earth moving around the sun at the same velocity as the Earth (which isn't that hard to do considering we're already moving at the same velocity as the Earth), it would be going fast enough to escape the Sun's gravity, though it would have to avoid a few planets on the way out!

Then they'd better sue Microsoft for its Live storage thingy too then, and Dropbox, and Ubuntu One, and every other online storage/backup site out there. People are getting fed up of the bullshit. Even guys like me who actually still buy music are going to stop paying if they keep this up.

Having looked at Amazon's pricing model (and considering they haven't released the service in the UK yet) I think I'd be better off just subscribing to Spotify though.. it costs about the same as it would cost to store my current collection online, but I wouldn't actually have to buy any new albums.

  6. Re:It's cloud-based alright on Amazon Releases Cloud-Based Music Service · · Score: 0

Since it's only accessible to the person who bought the music, I don't get the point in even trying to fight against it. You'd have to be a monumental idiot to believe that you can stop the embrace of technology in this way. It's not even encouraging piracy. Good luck, Sony - have fun wasting your money!

Why not also link to Spotify instead of just shilling? Spotify works on Windows/OSX/iPhone/Android/WP7.

Hah. Actually, I would consider Caithness "nasty"/poor, and I'd even agree with ugly when compared to the scenery in the rest of Scotland. On the west coast you get a few nice mountains with snow, rocky outcrops and such, but here on the the east coast it's relatively flat and boring.

Caithness is definitely as far from civilisation as you can get in the UK while still being on the mainland.

Well, real birds are also pretty damn lightning fast and have a lot more processing power than this thing to figure out how to catch them, so I'm not sure that would work just yet. Barefaced stealing food from people like most British seagulls do would be a better plan :P And they should also try to shit on your head or car to make sure that they blend in properly.

If the partnership goes good, Microsoft will buy you in short order. This has been going on for a very long time. No one seems to notice.

Nokia stupidly brought onboard an ex-Microsoft/Adobe/Macromedia guy as CEO. Sure these companies have all been successful in some regards, but they generally write awful bloated and insecure software, which is not something I'd want on a lightweight mobile device.. or indeed any device.
