I do have my old collection on an HDD. Now I use Spotify. So at home I don't need to store anything. I cache my "starred" list and some albums on my phone for playing when out and about. Currently that's just over 1000 tracks.
It's enough if you want to faff about with managing your music all the time, but it's definitely not "lots". Space for "lots" of music to me would be over 50GB. My (legally acquired) music collection was something like 80GB, before I started using Spotify.
For some definition of "lots". Lots of text, sure. But not lots of pictures or music, unless you are happy with some serious compression losses. In today's world, 16GB of storage is about the minimum acceptable for a phone/tablet/netbook class of device.
You want thousands of commercial planes to have mile-wide wing spans? That's pretty dangerous - not to mention that the maintenance required to keep something like that feasible would be crazy.
Okay, I'll revise it to "craft powered purely by their own solar panels aren't going to replace commercial aircraft". Not unless everyone gets their own personal plane/flying car at least.
Yep, your solution is worse than the DDoS itself, because it only requires a few requests to take a server offline, not a massively sustained attack.
Can you explain to me how to progmatically tell the difference between your "spoof" shutdown request and a real one? If you can't do that, then you could effectively DDoS an entire ISP when all of their customers have their connections shut down, and they can't get through to support lines because everyone else is phoning up to get their line re-enabled, etc..
Perfect as in: can convert 100% of radiated solar energy into electrical energy, weights nothing, has no aerodynamic drag, does not collect dust and debris from the atmosphere, etc:p
His illustration was not that it was impossible to lift a small child, simply that you need a very large PV array just to lift this small child, even with perfect materials. Solar is never going to replace any of the real gas guzzling aircraft that carry hundreds of passengers. Not to say it isn't interesting or useful to continue developing solar tech, but some other tech would be necessary to make general commercial flights greener.
No, he's using our knowledge of physical limitations. He said even with perfect materials and 100% energy conversion, etc, this isn't ever going to be viable for transferring heavy payloads (ie hundreds of passengers).
I think you guys are missing the fact that there is always shit being made. It's just that only the good stuff stands the test of time. So it always seems like older things are better. There are definitely a lot of average new movies, songs, books, games, etc, out there, but there is also good stuff if you actually look around. Recently I really enjoyed Seven Psychopaths, as well as Robot and Frank for being "different".
I would also guess that printing guns is going to leave a trail on the hard drive of a computer.
You "guess"? Data can be securely erased from a hard drive. You could also use a live CD or USB drive on a machine that doesn't even have a hard drive? The only thing you really need to be worried about is acquiring the templates somehow without being traceable.
Actually, if people gave as much attention to real driving as they do to video games, we'd all be a lot better off. Have the government provide "achievements" for going 5 years without an accident and then see what happens..
But you are apparently happy to have them waste those 15 minutes of your life for no actual reason. It's not about withdrawal, it's about letting idiots control your life.
Having a HUD doesn't magically make you an idiot. I'm pretty sure that's all on you.
Some car manufacturers have already taken design cues from video game style HUDs in the last few years, and it's no surprise that things will be heading more that way.
A HUD just gives you an efficient way to view information. It's safer than having to look down at your dashboard to view your speed or some other piece of information, because you will still be able to see what's going on on the road.
Angry Birds is pretty good actually. Not that many other mobile games are. What is needed for decent mobile gaming is for bluetooth gamepads to get more popular..
So you're saying that displaying speed in a HUD on the windscreen would distract kids? The same kids that have been playing computer games with HUDs for the last 14 years? Moving a little bit of information up to the windscreen isn't the problem, it's just getting information that isn't relevant to your driving that is the problem.
HUDs could be very useful for things like night vision projections. Some cars already have this.
Really just a desire to get high is in itself a proof that something is very wrong with a person
Sooo.. is the desire to go for a walk in the park, or have a nice hot bath or shower on a cold day also proof that there is "something very wrong with a person"? I rarely buy alcohol, and have never bought weed (though I have smoked it a couple of times). I hardly even drink coffee these days. But sometimes it's enjoyable to do these things. Why does there have to be something wrong with someone who wants to do change their environment for a little while, either physically or mentally?
I used Windows 8 for the first time last week. I could figure out where everything is, but it is just such a mess. Little touches that would make sense just didn't exist. For example I think you should be able to press escape from within a Metro app to return to the Start Menu thingy.. but that didn't work. When settings options are half-assedly implemented in Metro but then kick you back to the desktop for certain things doesn't feel right either. For Windows 7, there were some changes, but they felt like actual improvements. In Windows 8 it feels like they're changing shit just for the sake of changing it. If they put more effort into replacing more of the standard Control Panel stuff etc into Metro then it could feel coherent. But it just doesn't..
The internet is not really a luxury any more. My evidence: you can't buy (luxury item) without it!

You mean the consequence of having someone toot their horn at you when you don't move forward fast enough with the rest of the traffic..? Horrific..
It is pretty small if you are storing music or photos on your phone.
That's why I just had my PC in the living room at my last place :p Though at my new place I'm thinking I might actually get one of those desk thingies.
a second PC for the TV room, or a clip-on Bluetooth gamepad for a phone
A bluetooth gamepad makes sense for the PC too, rather than buying a whole new PC.

Jeez. Another political argument on Slashdot. Thanks, Obama!

When the problem has caused your business to lose work, or some other equally conceivable problem.. then it definitely hasn't cost less than $140.
In the worst case, your teenager might almost start a war with China.

I was replying to someone talking about fighter pilot training/HUDs. HUDs aren't illegal surely? Some BMWs and Mercedes have them here in Europe.

I would have even done it for Microsoft. The guy was being a retard.
FYI, Ubuntu are aiming for Mir now.
