who would want to stand there aiming for an 8 hour CoD fragfest?

You know, you don't actually have to stand. And aiming would be fun if it was done properly.

PS Move is not "Wii style", it is much improved. It does everything that I thought the Wii was going to do, but couldn't (until motion plus apparently, but I'd already got bored of my Wii before that came out). I want my "realistic" lightsaber battles, and it looks like with the Move system I may get them, or at least some decent sword fighting game. I had such high hopes for Red Steel after playing Wii Boxing, but Red Steel's melee system was atrocious.

I would be quite happy to actually have a full body suit, rifle, some kind of elaborate treadmill system etc and jog around for literally hours while playing a CoD style game. Not all gamer geeks are asthmatic and fat (I used to be asthmatic when I was a kid actually, but I'm much more fit than the average person these days). Sure I could just go paintballing or something, but I like the crazy things you can do in games - low gravity, alien weapons, portals etc.

I hate having a wheel that free floats. Even before I was driving real cars we had a proper steering wheels for our PS1. Free floating wheels are just annoying.

I thought the Need For Speed: Carbon control system on the Wii was pretty fun though - tilt the remote for acceleration and braking, use the joystick for steering. Unfortunately they dumped that system in NFS: Pro Street. I ended up just buying a PS3, loaning the Wii to my little sister and I've never wanted it back.

I know very little about economics, but from the little news that I have heard about the whole situation, obviously since the US has one of the largest if not the largest economy in the world (and the US dollar is the inernational standard for a lot of stuff) then what is bad for the US economy also damages the world's economy, at least in the short term..

A common thing for people who don't want to admit they were ripped off.

Of course. If that were true I am not being forced to buy any more blu-rays, yet I keep doing so. I'll also point out that after being a devout Christian my whole life I recently changed my beliefs and no longer believe in any god. I'm now quite capable of letting things go in life if needs be.

The first two films I ever watched on blu-ray were Independence Day and Ratatouille (bought at the same time when I got my PS3).

Independence Day didn't look much cop at all. I was slightly disappointed.

Then I watched Ratatouille and it was truly stunning.

I have since realised that Independence Day was either a poor conversion or simply shot on very grainy film (it does have a lot of dark scenes so it probably did need a high ISO film).

I don't see how someone with a /. UID under 1000000 could not understand how having a higher resolution picture and uncompressed audio would not make a difference for a video recording. Obviously there will be a point where we are unable to make out extra detail and quality, but we have not yet arrived at that point. Go watch a Pixar or Disney 3D animation on blu-ray on a HDTV and you will definitely notice how fantastic it looks even without the DVD playing alongside.

    Likewise for quality.

I tend to wait til the blu-rays are about £10-15 which is usually around twice the price of the DVD. It's well worth it for any movie that is 3D rendered, panoramic outdoor scenes or even just a nice soundtrack (as long as you have a decent 5.1 system). There are a few blu-ray bargains to be had on Amazon too. If a blu-ray drops under £10 I often just snap up immediately.

But the system uses a camera, and so can still track your body as PS2 eye-toy games did - it doesn't have to be limited to purely monitoring the hand controllers. I think this is the way forward at the moment because you can have the best of both worlds.

I know Sony don't publicly have a system with pseudo-3D motion capture from 2D video yet, but they have been doing motion games for years and so far Natal is just a bunch of ideas and promises rather than proven tech. I think for Natal to work with games it is really going to need handheld accessories to make things feel right anyway. Not having any buttons to press at all just wouldn't work for a lot of games..

But to vaguely answer your question based on what others are saying here: OpenGL 4.0 is close to Direct 3D 11 in terms of features though.

I think you are more likely to taste your own tongue after you try brushing it with some toothpaste to get your tastebuds all confused.
