I said ATC network rather than just ATC, and AI would be working alongside it or as a backup in a complete failure situation. Peer to peer stuff could assist in collision avoidance but I think primarily it should be something like infra-red or RADAR (tho obviously I'm not a pilot or an aircraft sensor engineer so I don't know what the best would be here). That would be especially important given that a lot of people may not have the necessary equipment in their craft for doing the peer to peer stuff, or their specific hardware may have a defect, etc. Again the single point of failure thing..
At least you don't have any pedestrians in the skies! I would think pedestrians and lawsuits would be the main factors in stopping manufacturers from trying to push AI in their cars. Saw an interesting Volvo ad recently that talks about auto-braking and collision warning in their cars. If stuff like that becomes more popular then it's a decent step towards self driving cars, though I'd be a bit worried about people becoming lazy with defensive driving/observation just because they think the car will do it for them.
Indeed. Though a Christian is a Christian, there are no different Christian faiths:p There are a lot of stupid denominational separations, but essentially you either believe in Jesus or you don't! I was referring more to a lack of pain in this plane of existence when I mentioned dying, I wasn't really thinking about what could possibly come next. I just know that I had enough problems as a kid without being raped, and dying would be preferable to going through the mental anguish that would be involved. After a while maybe you'd manage to sort your life into a semblance of normality, but there's also the chance you'll just be messed up and maybe even end up damaging more people's lives (I guess like in "One Hour Photo"... very sad movie, not sure if it was based on a true story)
I didn't mean not transporting the bad content, just that when you viewed an index page or something along those lines (since I haven't used the system I have no idea what the interface is like), then you wouldn't see any undesirable stuff. Due to the nature of the system you would have to just let information free flow because you don't know what most of it is, so I guess the OP was right.
Thanks, tis all very interesting. As I'm working on closed loop engineering systems atm then it's not likely I'll be needing to do any sort of encryption/obfuscation or anything, but who knows about the future:)
Well, some 'teen' porn sites have looked a bit dubious with regards to age to me in the past, I just closed them down. If using freenet is quite analagous to browsing the web then it does sound worth a gander just for interest's sake.
Okay, good points. Even though I'm religious - and therefore probably expected to be fanatical about this stuff - that sounds fairly reasonable (meaning that I wouldn't be sure if God is going to hand out a soul to something that only exists for a week due to the mother having the flu, though if you asked me yesterday I probably would have shrugged and said yes). You are still left with the conundrum of when 'life' actually begins though, would it perhaps be when the heart starts beating? Personally if I didn't believe in a 'higher power' then I'd say it was fine to get rid of it in the very early stages, I'd still think it was unacceptable later on though. I've not seen statistics but not all abortions will be rape victims and mothers whos life is somehow in danger because of the baby, and I think people should just be more responsible before and during conception rather than only considering the consequences after the fact... it's kind of like running Windows without a firewall!
Yep you're right - though I doubt those who are 'really bad' necessarily are also smart enough to cover their tracks. I guess it would only take moving to a physically anonymous location like an internet cafe, then using a public proxy with some form of encryption? Countries like China would try to blacklist those types of proxies though. I've been using computers as a 'power user' and sysadmin for a long time, but I haven't really looked into any fancy security tech beyond firewalls!
Well, I haven't used the system so I don't know the exact details you'd use on an implementation, but it wouldn't be that hard to setup a filter to remove stuff that you personally didn't want to see, or have a system like adblock that you can subscribe to to blacklist any known undesirable material. It's not along the same lines as the government getting to silence its foes, because you have the option to remove the filtering if you so wish? I wasn't saying you should stop people putting this stuff online or try to catch them (though it would be an interesting challenge given the whole concept of the system), just that if there's stuff you don't want to even see mentioned, you can limit your exposure to it if you wish.
Being a Douche on the Internet Hero A true lol moment;)
If you could actually make such a game that made Linux Kernel Compilation into a simple task that was also somehow also fun I'm not sure how exactly you can turn typing 'make' into a fun and rewarding task.. it's about all I had to do when compiling the kernel a few years back! There is of course that option where you can choose what modules to enable.. I wonder how many people could get through that on Expert on the first try?
Why simulate something you can actually do? Are you trying to say that guys involved in long term sexual relationships never masturbate?
Geekoid even pointed out that rock stars play guitar hero and have fun. There's plenty of scope for you to learn real songs alongside playing guitar hero, but when you're by yourself you don't have anyone to play the drums and sing, etc. Guitar Hero has a pretty good atmosphere (the crowd boos if you mess up and cheers if you hit lots of notes in a row for example). It's obviously not the same as playing a real guitar, but it does bear a resemblance, and I know my timing has improved over the weeks that I have played it. Not all of my mastery of the game will have translated into increased guitar playing skills, for example doing a hammer on or pull off takes a lot more effort on a real guitar, but the thing is that I hardly ever make time to play my guitar anyway (which cost around as much as my PS3 and Guitar Hero put together), but Guitar Hero has reminded me it's something I enjoy and should spend more serious time on, rather than just occasionally fiddling around with an acoustic on a sunday afternoon every few months..
"So be it. I personally don't need to turn everything into a competition. Yes, you win, enjoy yourself." and you just have to whine about what other people do so you can feel good about yourself. That guys strange sarcastic non involved attitude reminds me of my ex. It makes my blood run cold:o Someone should lock him in a room with Guitar Hero and he'd probably kill himself after he finds out that he actually enjoys it..:p There's something about it, to the extent when I hear a song I like now I think "wow that would be fun to play on Guitar Hero".
If that were me I would have picked up on the 'of' instead of 'have' too. But I'm trying to work past my "I'm a jerk wad" stage of my life. You aren't funny, and you are just showing that you have never played Guitar Hero by your attitude to it. I had a similar attitude til I tried it a few weeks ago, and it's actually great fun. Say hello to yourself
And yes, I am a guitarist (though funnily enough I'm always the drummer when it comes to recording music and playing gigs, since all my friends are guitarists too, but they dont gots no rhythm compared to me)
Let's face it, if you're not watching the screen while fiddling with your plastic guitar, you're not going to be very good at the game now, are you? Personally I think if you're playing without watching the screen, that's a sign that you are getting pretty good (or just have an excellent memory).
They could have at least got some decent effects output from those things. And more than 5 notes. I mean there are presumably something like 5^5-1 combinations of button presses (yeah, I don't know the math, here's my fake geek card..)?
I tried Guitar Hero for the first time just over a month ago, it's way more fun than it looks:) I've done something like 36/42 of the expert career songs.. some of the solos are just stupid for the more difficult songs. I play guitar as well, and I'd say that Expert difficulty is sometimes more difficult than actually playing the song on a guitar (depending on how used to chords shapes your fingers are, there's obviously a bit more of a learning curve on a real guitar due to there being 6 strings instead of the one "string" you get on guitar hero:p ). Guitar Hero is good for training your rhythm anyway, I'm a self taught drummer as well as a guitarist and you have to have really good rhythm to get through some of the crazy fast strumming sections without dying for example
But more recently I had the most awesome. The most excellent. The most AMAZING idea for a Hero game ever. Picture if you will: Triangle Hero. The controllers would be cheap, the gameplay simple, and the tinkling furious. Copyright mine, controller patent pending.
You must be a big fan of torture! Why exactly is killing someone worse than screwing up the rest of their life? Seems to me there's a lot less pain involved in just dying.. I wonder how many times this conversation has been had online. Killing people for their religion I can kind of understand, though I don't agree with it. Molesting women and kids and then putting it online for the world to see is just sick. I think you're making a pretty big assumption about the parents thing too. I'm not a parent, but if it came to choosing for example if one of my cousins were to be humiliated for hours/days/weeks/longer and scarred for life by some sick bastard, or just dying quickly in an accident, I know which I would prefer.. I don't even want to think about this anymore..
You could simply categorise stuff and allow people to use filters? Kind of like the moderation system on/. . There are abuses of the system, but they get modded down and you can filter them if you so wish.. why act like you can only use a system in its most extreme incarnations?
It's good to know that it isn't just being used for dodgy stuff, though it's still hard to see the point in it unless you're living in China or something? Who actually needs that level of anonymity beyond just trying it out for the cool factor? I hope the whole thing doesn't end up proving useful for spammers and botnet herders.. *sniff* I'm not trying to say we should stop developing interesting tech, but I still don't see the incentive to even try it. Maybe in a few years my government will get all totalitarian and big brother style and then I get to be cool too.
We always get screwed, we're used to it by now. Seems to be the same with all the cool stuff.. computers, consoles, TVs, cars, bikes.. bleh.. darn taxes
Aren't there already several devices like this out there? I was at a friend of a friend's house a couple of years ago and he had his own RC R2D2 - didn't have a projector but I think it had MP3 capability.. sure I've seen projector models on gadget sites since then though
It's pretty standard to measure displays by the diagonal size. Calling it a projection area is a bit confusing, but what would you have said instead?:p
Ah yep it's just a binary system, didn't think of that.

An obvious business exploration idea for milk companies!
*cough* ._. it made sense at the time. I blame the coffee

I can't even read your comment since I refuse to go along with all this interned net garbage. And don't get me started on rotating media..
