I've already patented using this technology on skateboard decks, and no, Back to the Future doesn't count as prior art! I didn't get the idea from there at all!
I've told them no Vista allowed. One employee went ahead and got a Vista laptop (in our Houston office, rather than our UK office), I said no freakin way, and after a chat with me her manager had her take it back to the store..
If he'd said anything else then that's probably a good time/reason for me to quit and move on! On to living in the middle of nowhere, possibly farming potatoes instead of managing IT for a bunch of crazy oil industry workers.. I've noticed a couple of my hairs are going grey/white, and I'm only 23!
Okay.. when the PS3 comes down in price.. it will do much better;) I've heard plenty of people say that they're just waiting for the price to dip lower before they themselves take the plunge. My uncle has one because he's a total Sony fanboy (PS1, PS2, VAIOs, Aibo, Bravia, PSP, now PS3..) and is loaded, and one of my ex workmates has one because we got it as a leaving present (he was one of the people who were gonna wait for the price to drop before getting one), but those with an ounce of sanity are probably waiting until more games come out and the price drops a bit..:P
Thanks for making me smile, that's the funniest thing I've read all day:) When the PS3 comes down in price, it will do fine. I may even get it just to play GTA IV, rather than waiting for the PC release as I've always done in the past (thought I hate playing on a console with a controller rather than being able to use my mouse for pwnz0r headshot aiming, but it's decent enough while driving the cars, and the graphics will probably be as good as the PC version too)
Where are you, Google... in our time of deepest need? Geeks around the world are on their knees, crying out to play Grand Theft Auto without any WINE or Virtualised Politically Corrects,;to have the freedom to accelerate in threedee that which can otherwise only be seen through the Windows.. please help us to feel lucky today!
What industry are you talking about? Software, music, video? Yeah, we'll all be much better off when there are no new commercial songs movies, songs or software. While we're at it, why don't we just run riot around the streets, breaking into a stores and taking our consumer goods for free! They can't stop us if we all do it!!
Sarcasm aside, while I have downloaded software, music and videos in the past, I do actually pay for the stuff I like and want to support.. I don't mind at all if Microsoft or Adobe disappear off the face of the earth however.. they're probably among the 2 companies to have the most software pirated (Windows/Office/Photoshop..?).
Yeah I was partially joking, though knowing how to deal with problem behaviour without smacking your kid (though I got smacked as a kid and I don't consider it right to beat people up to get your own way, but apparently using phsyical methods to discipline your child can cause them to think of that as a way to resolve arguments or some crap like that..), and why your kid is acting in a way you'd rather they didn't etc, probably makes things a bit easier..
I don't know about the Lessig case (though the name sounds familiar). I have been tempted to take a photo of that particular screen before:D We get the FACT one, and another crappy advert during the earlier adverts like you say (strangely, the sound quality on these ads is always pretty poor, and they include stupid arguments like "on poor quality downloads, you can see people getting up to go to the toilet", when you get that in the real cinema too).
Again, the issue isn't whether anyone agrees with the copyright, it's the fact that this was obviously illegal, she did it, and she's facing repercussions. They should basically just be a slap on the wrist for a 20 second clip, but you can't go somewhere, do something you know is illegal, and expect everything to be okay. Hmm, wikipedia says that DMCA is US only, I guess we just use common sense over here. I don't see why having a recording on digital media should be any different to having it on analog media, other than it is easier to distribute digital copies..
:P anti-US sentiment is what makes my life worth living. I like to call it 'rational realistic objectivismification' rather than anti-US sentiment though.
At our local cinemas, they run the FACT advert *right* before the certification screen.
Not that the movie theatre thinks it should be illegal.. over here it *is* illegal, and it obviously is in the US too or they wouldn't have called the cops. I think it's reasonable that you shouldn't be allowed to record a movie, as it is obviously breaking copyright.. if you don't agree with copyright then that's a whole different matter though.
If that's not satire, then I'll point out that people in China could say the same thing about the US (maybe you are Chinese though and not American, but your statement seems very american to me..).
Same here - my mum was a teacher until she had me, and she only started teaching again part time once me and my siblings had grown up a bit. It *should* be the norm - hard to justify two parents going off on full time work, especially since the UK and US governments provide some kind of welfare for having kids - not so sure what the US system is, but you definitely get child support over here until your kids are over 16 (age at which they can legally leave home).
hah.. well that's unfortunate of course, but people who clearly don't want to spend time with their kids even before they have them, should just not have them! Most kids will be brats at some point, but it is possible to deal with issues if you know how (probably need to have a Masters degree in Psychology to do it though, and even then it would be difficult;) )
"Americans would PAY (apparently around $14.95/month) to run them (so would many others I'm sure, a coalition of the willing, let the market decide)"
Soldier: Okay, move in, I'll stay here and watch your back!
14 year old kid: Stop camping, bitch, you move in!! Don't make me remind you that friendly fire is on. Hey, these teams are unfair! I'm gonna switch over to even them out
Err.. maybe your parents weren't interested in spending time with you, that would explain why you are talking like this. And you're just demonstrating the problem here - if parents don't want to spend time with their children, they shouldn't have any! Sure, let them go and do their own thing on occasion, especially as they get older, but when they're younger you need to supervise them to make sure that they don't do anything which will harm themselves or others, and also having family activities can be great fun as well as just developing a good family bond. In western culture family isn't so important, but in some countries the family unit is incredibly important, and people have a lot more respect for their parents, grandparents etc, which I think is a good thing. And no, I'm not a parent, but I may be someday. I hope you never become a parent if you're just going to treat your kids like a cat (feed them, clean them, then throw them outside and let them fend for themselves for the rest of the time..).
I much prefer the more realistic games. Some people enjoy it, some don't.. in fact I think F1 is extremely boring.. but I like real driving, realistic computer game driving (because you can drive all manner of cars, and you can drive like a lunatic without risking danger to yourself or others), and I like watching Touring Cars type racing.
'Cartoon physics' type games just make me think the programmers didn't want to put effort in (think Ridge Racer, not stuff like Mario Kart or Crash Team Racing, which are awesome:) ) - having a physics model where you can drift in what feels like a locked in to the road line at 200mph is just asking for people to develop bad driving habits.
Word! Or Writer.. or something
"If you really need to blend in with your Active Directory environment, you can" use a BlendTec blender!
Couldn't resist..
Wouldn't the fix be the new version of FireFox? o_0
Well, it appears it's in the process of trying to revoke the law of gravity

lol.. slightly pointless, but if it makes you happy then ;)
:/ Hmm, lots of Xs.. anyway, have fun XD
I've got XP and OS X here, tried the Ubuntu live CD but it wouldn't start X

"my plans about how I was gonna use Vista"
Hopefully these plans included a large pile of very dry wood, some gasoline, and a shaman head-dress?
"The PS3 is doomed."
