  1. Road Spray on Big Rigs Go High Tech · · Score: 1

European truck surround their wheels with astroturf-lined flaps that keep spray down. I do not see much in the way of road spray suppression gear around the tires of tractors and trailers in the USA. The only reason I can think for this is that encasing the wheels would lead to heat-build up, which is more likely to be a problem in the USA's hotter climate.

  2. Tesco is Hardly the Equivalent of Wal-Mart on UK's Biggest Supermarket Challenges Microsoft · · Score: 1

Tesco may be the UK's largest supermarket chain, but is hardly a Wal-Mart equivalent. "Asda" is the bottom-feeding supermarket chain in the UK and most closely matches Wal-Mart's profile. It's actually not doing terribly well in the market, as well-heeled Brits eschew the "low prices every day" model and shop at Tesco & Sainsbury's instead. Oh yes, Asda is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wal-Mart.

  3. Use 'Em to Power Speed Cameras? on Ramp Creates Power As Cars Pass · · Score: 1

Wondering whether the revenue generated by Britain's all-pervasive network of automatic speed cameras could be enhanced by using the ramps (or a variation thereof) to supply the electricity they require. In this manner a speeding motorist would know that some of the fantastically-expensive petrol he put in the tank went directly to producing the incriminating photos generated as he raced through the crosshairs. There is precedent here. If a sailor in Britain's Napoleonic-era Royal Navy was sentenced to be flogged with the cat o' nine tails, he was obliged to make the instrument of his punishment with his own hands.

Actually he got verb wrong; it should be "vive" rather than "viva." He also got the gender wrong; it's "le pomme," not "la pomme." Oh, and yes I replaced my Dell laptop PC this year with an Apple PowerBook.... and I'm delighted with it.

  5. Re:WTF!?! on Wi-Max Deployed in Katrina Disaster Area · · Score: 1

Umm. I think you'll find that the evil "for profit" corporations, like WalMart, Lowes, Home Depot, UPS, Microsoft, Dell, Cisco and all the rest have incredibly efficient distribution systems that they use every day. They are so expert and practiced at this that they can move materiel and relief to the needy infinitely quicker than some hidebound government agency. Remember it is the greedy capitalist bastards that put the food on your table; making profits all the way.
