And that's a big problem. The Stallman-esque extremists who want to avoid anything that they think is in some way capitalist are just as bad, though. IMO, open source should be about writing software, making money or not protecting freedom.
I for one welcome our new Beowulf cluster of Linux-running, not quite Vista-capable supercomputer overlords.
In Soviet Russia, a Beowulf cluster of Linux-running, not quite Vista-capable supercomputers imagine YOU! On the other hand, in Korea, only old people imagine a Beowulf cluster of Linux-running, not quite Vista-capable supercomputers.
Oh! Won't somebody please think of the Beowulf clusters of Linux-running, not quite Vista-capable supercomputers?
One thing I always wondered about. Since Macs are so easy to use, why does it require a "genius" to fix one?
Well, my car is easy to use, but I wouldn't want to fix it myself. I'll leave car repair to the car geeks, and most people should leave computer repair to the computer geeks.
But over a period of say, five years, would it cost more to bury the cables than it would to maintain aboveground equipment and repair storm damage, etc.? I wouldn't think it would take that long to at least break even.
Just my $0.02. IANAPCE (I Am Not A Power Company Employee), so I'm probably wrong about the costs.
Good point. Still, does it really matter if the method is illegal or just what you use the method for? The whole point is to access forbidden content, after all.
I really think that the only real long-term solution to the censorship is for the Chinese government to stop it. Anything else is, like you said, not a real solution.
Even worse, what if someone built a noise generator that operates on the same band the guns use? That would be a disaster. Imagine a bank robber who can remotely (albeit temporarly) disable a security guard's gun.
Remember that God created animals in a non-technologically perfect form since their purpose is to serve humans. If He had created them perfectly, they would be better than humans. Therefore, we should not rely solely on them for inspiration in our technology as they are not optimized by Him. They were deliberately made to be inferior to humans so that we could harness them and use them for our needs. We should also avoid from mimicking God's work as we may anger Him and incur the fury of the Lord Almighty (that's not good).
Some Christians, myself included, would disagree. The greatest honor we can give God is to look at his creation and be inspired to imitate it, since it reflects God's likeness.
I think subcreation, as the late, great Tolkien called it, is the natural course of action. Remember Aulë and the Dwarves.
At End Of Road You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Around you is a forest. A small stream flows out of the building and down a gully.
Somewhere off in Redmond, a shot is fired. It narrowly misses Steve Ballmer, who grabs a chair to deflect it. What will happen? Will bcat go down in legend as the glorious killer of Ballmer? Or will he suffer the wrath of Ballmer's WWE-style chair-throwing moves? Will Steve f***ing kill Google? And most importantly, will bcat brick his new WRT54GL when he tries to reflash it?

Excellent! I think I'll go smoke a Victory Cigarette and make a Victory Gin toast to BB!
It's more than that. You shouldn't even know that you have nothing to hide. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.
True, capitalism is no silver bullet. I do think it's the best compromise, though.
Open Source, on the other hand, is not. So just what is FOSS anyway? Something that's either open source or free software?
I meant to say that open source should be about writing software, *not* making money or protecting freedom.
(O/T: You would think the Slashdot maintainers would eventually catch on and let people edit posts.)

Did I forget anything?
Damn, "at a UK internet cafe" was supposed to be in italics. Oh well.
Emphasis mine.
Heh, imagine coupling a screen saver like that with a webcam. It could track things as they moved around the room.
I know what you mean. They are nerds (yuck!), not geeks.

We know they use Winternals software. :)
Yep, a LiveCD/LiveUSB system is the best if you can use it, but a lot of public computers only allow you to boot the HD.

Wouldn't that be cruel and unusual punishment?
How is that flamebait? I was replying to the parent's statement with my opinion. I didn't mean to ruffle anybody's feathers.

Actually, I think this is where it all started.
Wow, that was quick! Anyway, here's a full mirror of the one-page printable version.

Here's a detailed review that should tell you whatever you want to know about WRT54G(S) router models. The WRT54GL is the same as a WRT54Gv4, IIRC.
