uhh, maybe spending money on better figuring out how not to totally fuck up our own planet is more important to the future of our species than sending spaceships to a dead planet...
oh, wait, does that insult your fave sci-fi novelist?
Not sure who your high school science teacher was, but scientists don't prove things, and there isn't such a thing as "irrefutable", except maybe when it comes to disproving things. Mathematicians get to have the fun of proving things, the real world isn't so nice. So no, global warming hasn't been "irrefutably proven", but then neither has the theory that electricity works because of these crazy things called electrons, but that doesn't stop me from using a computer. Nor should the logically impossible goal of "proving" global warming stop us from moving with all due haste to a post-fossil-fuel based economy.
buy vinyl. steal the mp3s off the internet. that way you have a physical, high quality analog copy that nobody can mess with, an mp3 file that has no vendor lock in, and the artist and his or her label get paid.
for real. i was at my parents house a little while ago, checking my email with pine as usual, and my bother, who is a finance guy, looks over and is all "that is a sweet email program. how is it so fast?", thinking it was the latest in email technology...
hi natas-
sorry, but you have a terribly mid-to-high-latitude-centric perspective. the concept of winter doesn't even make sense at the equator. if it did, when would winter be there? during the northern hemisphere winter (january), or the southern hemisphere winter (july)? right.
seriously, though, this is meteorology 101. and fluid dynamics 101 says that an eddy can only transport something (heat, for example) across a gradient. and as far as winter storms not being strong, i guess you didn't see 'a perfect storm'
