I think the timing might be more Entertainment Weekly trying to run articles that are relevant to current events... like the Serenity DVD release.
Regardless of all this paranoia, I personally doubt that his comments will have any effect on Serenity/Firefly DVD sales, nor do I think it likely he intended to have an effect.
Why do you respond to such a statement from Bush's sycophants as if it was a meaningful statement? Nothing passes their lips except in their self-serving interest. Whether a statement is true or false isn't even considered. They speak only to influence, manipulate, and control others.
That's also Bush's intention, but he's dumb enough to let a few unscripted lines out, and occasionally say what he's wants to.

There are 11 types of people in the world: those who can count in binary, and those who can't.
This was in no way an apology. Some exec was quoted saying that they would be "re-evaluating" their copy-protection schemes. Who the hell calls that an apology? There wasn't anything that sounded like any admission they did something wrong. He merely noted that they got a lot of bad publicity, which of course they want to avoid in the future. In other words, they might be sorry they got caught, but that just means they have another consideration for the next plan they have for screwing their customers.
I don't think IE is "embedded" by Google at all. Google Desktop search works as a local webserver (it rejects non-localhost accesses), and other browsers work with it just fine. Google Desktop start icons do indeed callously start IE, and there is no way to change that. However, you can just cut & paste the URL, and bookmark it in Firefox.
Why is it so hard to understand that water is nothing like oil? It isn't burned, it doesn't really go anywhere, and is automatically and eternally recycled. In dry areas, there is certainly a limit on how many people can be supported by the available water. But there is no such thing as "wasting" water!
SCO deserves some blame, but I think this actually reflects more on the state of our thoroughly broken [in]justice system. A reasonable and responsible judge would not only have dismissed the case immediately and with prejudice, but imposed all court costs and a fine for a frivolous lawsuit, and referred their lawyers to the bar for disciplinary action.
Maybe the parts they left out would make the story make some sense.
Naah.
What's the point of password changes?

What the hell *is* the purpose of forcing password changes? If my account is compromised, is it not so bad if the bad people only have access to it for ~60 days or less?
And if the account hasn't been compromised (say 99.99999% of the time), what good is a new password?

You may be one who can't. '11'b == 3.

The new rule is absolutely meaningless. Further restrictions will be needed to have any effect.
It could hardly be any trouble to register, post a new article, then logoff and edit your garbage in.

Not much, evidently.

Along this line, I recently read of a frat candidate who died of *water* poisoning. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/ a/2005/02/04/BAGNSB576121.DTL

99% of lawyers give the rest a bad name.
Referrer is spelled with four 'R's. Embarrassing, however, has two.
How embarrassing, indeed.
I'm not sure who's in charge of version numbers in this universe, but 99.9a-b13g.1% of them are extremely crappy at it.
Take a look. Netscape 8.0 (http://www.netscape.com/) is a front-end for Firefox and IE. There's no there anymore.
That's it? There were more grammar and spelling errors than in the average 3rd-grader's first book report.
Whatever. My old id was (42), but I forgot my password.

Seems useless to me.
So you think only the least significant bit can be corrupted? Think again.
