Read more... has too much padding/margin on its right side, it should be over further to help close out the section the way the x of y comments is at the left. I know some people have some attachment to the sickly green color, but seriously, its been inducing vomiting long enough.
This is definitely the way to go. I do this myself, lay out a project a single component at a time, and test all along. Sometimes I only change or add a couple lines of code at a time before I compile and test it. Seems like this would take a long time to code anything, but I cut out all the rigorous testing (and possible debugging, and even worse, rewriting entire modules)
I don't think the author is clear on what the free in free/open source software means. Free as in you don't pay money for it. End of sentence. Not free as in you're free to remain oblivious as to what exactly its doing to your computer.
Yes, it can be tough to get your head around some issues like installation/upgrades, but all you need is half a brain and the desire to learn.
None of this was a problem until shitty parents started using violence on tv/games as an excuse for shitty parenting. Instead of taking 10 minutes and researching the particular game their kid wants, they blindly toss it in the cart, then later on bitch about how violent it is. Video games don't cause violence, people do.
Kids find ways of getting their hands on all sorts of things whose sale to minors is prohibited. Who here was even close to 18 years old when they first saw a set of boobies a raunchy magazine that your friend got from his older cousin? Or had a friend's cool mom buy you smokes? Or knew someone over 21 that bought you booze? Smokes, pr0n, and later on, booze. We had all these, no one gave a shit, and if they did, you hid it from them, simple as that.
but I could watch probably about 100 more TNG movies. It doesn't get any better than Riker shoving a photon torpedo right through those klingon bitch's windshield, or Data exclaiming 'oh shit!' when he realized the ship would be in for a rough landing.
Maybe I'm just too much of a TNG fan, but I've never seen an episode I haven't liked, nor changed the channel because I've already seen this one. IMO TNG was the pinnacle of Roddenberry's works, to go back and make a kind of spinoff/prequel of the original just isn't going to appeal to fans (and lets face it, who the hell else is going to go see it?)
These pay-per-month MMORPGs will one day kill the traditional single player adventure game. When I'm trying to lose myself in a fantasy world, I don't want to run into other characters with names like commodore burrito and the like. Such things like this and people who play the game 18 hours per day and sell real world possessions in order to buy computer world items have really turned me off from MMORPGs lately.
Sorry for the rant, but I hate seeing so many good video game ideas turned into a pay-per-month-bleed-me-dry MMO deal. This is just my opinion, I'm wondering if anyone shares it, or if its time I just succumb to the MMO style of gaming and accept it as the way of the future.
For us practical people who don't get off on bragging about their "megapixels on their cell phone" or their "gigabytes on their flash drive" its simply not a concern at all. Sadly enough, I do work with one of those people, tried to show off his new flash drive which held 6gb. I might have been impressed if he even had the foggiest notion of exactly how much information 1 gigabyte is. I would also put money on the fact that its sitting in his pocket totally empty as are the (2) 250gb external hard drive we just had to buy him.
The point of this rant is these are the types of people who drive companies to produce all these products that have no practical use other than to have 'more megabytes' than yours.
I totally agree. The folks over at Mozilla have no problem producing a secure web browser. It must not be too hard either, they give it out for free. You mean to tell me Microsoft can't (or won't) do that?
1. record self acting like a complete f*ing retard
2. 'leak' to internet

The old saying about the special olympics applies here: Even if you win kid, you're still retarded. We've even got the video clip to prove it.
Logically you would think this would be true, but have you ever slept like that? I did for a week one time while camping out, the ground wasn't perfectly level. Worst nights' sleep I've ever gotten, I constantly felt like I was falling. Had some pretty wacked out dreams, too.
Lets compare email to real mail, using the USPS as an example. Imagine if postage was free and paper/printing was also free. Your mailbox would be exploding with junk mail. (Some days mine does anyway, even with costs of postage and paper and printing) This fictional scenario, I think closely (but not perfectly) mirrors the current email system. The whole spam problem should have been forseen.
Some found it funny, some obviously did not. Thanks for actually spending the time to clarify that you're among those who did not. Bonus points for adding an insult.
Seems to me Microsoft should have just taken their time from the start. Didn't they cut out alot of the features they promised to get this out the door quicker? And it seems they are just moving people around. 'Ok, this guy here f'ed up the Vista release schedule. We're putting him on future windows products to make sure their release schedules are f'ed up also.'
Is it me, or does this company seem to become more and more disorganized by the day?
I should clarify. I don't have anything against the artists/producers currently, but should they decide to single me out of a possibly infinite number of would-be pirates, that would incite quite a fury in me.
I don't find it right that they can go after 'lost revenues' they feel comes from piracy. Especially when I personally don't use piracy as an alternative to buying something. They aren't losing any money on me, take away my ability to pirate something, fine I'll do without. More often than not, pirating leads me to come to like the work enough that I will go out and buy it. Shouldn't I be able sue those who make pirated works available to me for my 'lost assets' that arose because of piracy?
I wouldn't mind being challenged to go a few rounds with the artists/movie producers whose works I've pirated. Depending on the artist, I could probably go 10 rounds on hate alone.
This is why I hate blogs. I see a story on slashdot, and click through to the article expecting to find news. You know, a simple reporting of some facts. Only after reading the article do I realize this isn't news, its just some asshole bitching about Microsoft, and I really don't give two shits what he has to say. The only real news I can gather from this article is that Microsoft held some press conference or tech demo of some sort, and this guy hated it.
Slanted, one sided, inaccurate and biased blog entries are not news. Please stop subjecting us to them.
I donno, brand new chip, catchy performance implying name, about the only thing extreme about this chip will be the price. All of you people who get off on bragging about their box's specs in your little forum sigs prepare to shell out your 2 grand to upgrade from that now outdated 3.4 ghz piece of crap you've somehow been putting up with.
Not trying to troll, just pointing out the extremely narrow audience this chip would appeal to given that they are moving on to a different core soon. I'm just hoping this will drive down costs of the 'lower end' dual core chips soon.

Excellent question. I'd also inquire about its compatibility with Linux.
Woot. I'm buying it. Thanks for the tip, Jackie boy.

Crock of shit comes immediately to my mind. Call it whatever you want, just don't call it journalism.

If Intel's two cores are 'Extreme Edition' what should these be called? Ludicrous Edition? With a little sign by them saying 'Never Use'?
Trying to be humorous, not seriously comparing the two chips.

A minor setback at most.
How many shuttles full of people have NASA lost? Two too many, IMO.

This guy's blog is ridiculous, he's either incompetent, or pushing his own agenda. Why wasn't the original article linked to in the story?

I disagree with said blogger's views. Log on for my blog entry at 11 and stick around for the

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for us, guess our society should just stop prospering and get ready for the dark ages.
