So you work for a company.
And leave it for an excuse of your past company before novell... ?????
Damn forget who is paying you..... ?
Wass your sallery to low.... ?
Or ehm mentaly ill... ?
Well i hope he does resign himself, and wont perform a buyout for those novell employees.
Resigning for poor reasons is bad behaviour and not liked by employees in general.
Such people must better think if their bad-leadership is needed in the company who pays their sallery, well its good that he somehow knows he understand he should leave.
Such leaders are overrated in a company, i've got no good words for it.
(And Bill if you like a joke wel hire him for a good salery but give him an ugly terrible job whoehahahahah it would give a nice twist to this novel $$$ person )
Wll gmail is nice until you notice you have yahoo friends.
Then it seams gmail often acts as a mail blackhol, doesnt even send a NDR back.
it looses mail. happens often with nested emails
The answer to such environments is contignous mail backup/archiving solutions. Exchange is an atomic DB with transaction logging. This means mail can be restored till the moment of crass.
Archiving is a seperate product for ex2000 or ex2003 But if you like to in Ex2007 you can trough the GUI create a rule to put older email to a different database for backup, for example one with slower I/O troughput as older mail is often less used. Or what you can also do under exchange 2007 create a copy database. This doesn't demand high I/O as its only a copy to which also the transaction logs are purged. But it is a functional DB which can easily be made active.
The reason for that last option, well 95% of mail system crashes is caused by disk hardware failures (SAN problems etc..)
Well ex2007 is quite new (even to me) but its an intresting product with new options on availibility compared to its older versions.
Most thing i like in it is probaply SIP integration for your phone centre and the understanding of human voice command in a language spoken way (not like press 1 for.. pres 2 foor but just normal sentence).
Yeah it realy does as a mail system. Why ? Ever tried to mail dep nested mails between yahoo an gmail ? Often such mail does not arrive, you dont even get a NDR (call that a mail system???). Gmail is its own blackhole mail system.
Compared to MS, they are not even near to EX2000 owa. And how about a mail system to wich you can talk trough your mobile.. Well that is the killer app in Exchange 2007, it can listen to you. Not like pres 1 one for.. pres 2 for.. no REAL voice integreation. "i'm 10 to 20 minutes late for my next appointment" and all others invited are automaticaly notified.. Call that integration, call that handy (when driving a car for example). By voice you can instruct this electronic 'girl' to read out your mail. And she even got pretty voice (well that depends on the language, the amrican girl sounded a bit more like bitch, but the dutch well.. hmm.. wonder if she could be dated)
I also think this is not real serious balance, comparing a top notch company mail system to a public free mail system. Not even in terms of troughput, user interface, or security, or worse even privacy (big google is watching that's publicly known).
It must be because of slashdot most readers admire linux, but even for those people if you like to you might use commandline only to configure tasks or install exchange, in fact the GUI gives and executes the command line code, which you might type by hand to (for every task). If you combine that with MS Core server........... No i'm not against linux or other types of OS but had to many cases in which people could not explain their sendmail configuration which was halting proper mail flow.
You have seen the wrong side, the real killer app in ex2007 is voice integration.
And i mean voice..
In Exchange 2007 you can call with your mobile and it will speak out your email or you can say something like "i'm 10 to 20 minutes late for my next appointment".
Then it understands this and automaticaly updates all other who where in this appointment.
It's not like "press 1 for agenda, press 2 for mailbox, pres 3 for options...
No its much much smarter then the average automatic telphone centre.
You can even record a voice message and send it it others.
And the voices are quite good te even when not english other languages ('i 've heard Dutch, amazed be such a clear voice).
I would say Exchange 2007 is a (again) a killer app from MS.
Like it was before the most powerfull mail system.
Gmail ofcourse is fun, however wait till you mail your yahoo friend or visa verse.
Google has a mailsystem (based on what???) wich often cannot mail to yahoo
because the nailed their product i gues to much with html styles.
Otherwise i cannot explain why mailing between yahoo and google so often goes wrong especialy with deep threads.
Ofcourse the people who now how protocols behave (MS) had never had such problems.
Yeah i dare to say that since it began including x400 in ex5.0 (wich soon went to 55)
In those days it replaced expensive x400 switches could connect to x400 clouds
And these days it will sip i say i'm amazed again.
Still silly, i thougt those companies especialy google, are verry rich companies. And they do atract smart people, awho would come up with inventions. But creativity gets lost in big comapnies as always. Well if would work at google i would kick somebody out of the company for doing this. For sure copying is not rated as smart, it's rated as lazy.
Overall it suprices me that google doesnt create his verry own brouwser. I'm wondering what do they do there? To me Googleis a stange company, make a lot of money but have no real direction it seams. Do they want to do something with search engines with google eart, with web pages, with myspace, with E-wallet or with.. well you name it.
So much for the anti microsoft tone in all these responses.
None of them deails about potential of this stuff, what about a next SDK for this for visual studio hm hint hint...
So for the command type people:
Hey did anyone got a CRT tube, some linux folks using a command line are trying to make their own version.
Actualy there are now running multible sub versions all over the place and they all only listen to typed commands and none of them knows what actualy rules the world, so they started fighting each other. We had to call in an MS version as it was the only one who could deal with all the different protocols and could understand human language.
hehehehe ( $$$$$ evil grin $$$$$ )
Not that much fiction in here btw.
If our brain can work with that as mentioned in the article.
Then i wonder how nuch of our mind uses quantum computing.
Okay a bit weird dough, but all these brain signals/chemics.
If they they are that sensitive then well..then its not out of reach for sure.
Hmmm how many qubits a brain would be i have no idea.
Also this would geve raise to other subjects like the human spirit.
Had the same idea?, well just call it entanglement.
simpliciy is wrong?
That doesnt reflect the popularity of having simply google as a startup page as most people have..
Trying to say complex things making idiot standpoints... well i say priceless.
Remember KISS got us up to the moon, got us the U2 blackbird.
How many computers we need these times to launch a rocket..
Ehm well KISS is the way to go.
I've read the article, and did i read it was achieved trough optics ?? In that case i wonder if it realy counts for 40%
I stil wonder if this is the way to go for large scale on earth. I mean take a desert take a bunch of cheap mirrors to power a solar driven steam engine mirrors are verry cheap you know..
Going to mars several multi miliards of dollars Going to the moon a little bit less but still very expensive Taking an outside walk on mars in a space suite, several thousends of dollars. Drinking a coke on the moon, 50 dollar cent.
Solving earth's current climate problems..priceless
(based on the Eurocard mastercard advertisement);)
(well at least on mars you dont have to argeu about global climate problems, they are allready there)
Well i'm from EU think your a bit right. Nasa tends to 'want to do big things' with low tech. It might be better for NASA to work better with the EU together. The EU wouldnt go to the moon unless there was an economic reason for it. Mining could be that, but not just 'space travel' as its anounced to the public. I've read the NASA mission statement on this, and i can tell you. That most of the science goals could as well be achieved with cheap satelites.
But Nasa isn't always behind Take the Mars rovers (that was a nice technology jump).
Altough these keep on driving (and thus keep on costing money
So thats why a next version might get nuke bateries, which will limit project costs...) The european probe was to cheap and crashed into Mars. Just imagine if EU and NASA had worked together on it, it might have succeeded. Perhaps also then the rovers could have a better science payload.
To go on, forward its better to think of what you want for what reason. Check if there are possible economic reasone like mining or just do that for a trial. And then use tele-precense (like the mars robots). A solar plant and some marsrovers/moon rovers with tele-hands could build a lot without people actualy beeing there and reduce money cost.
Anyway probaply china will be the first back on the moon. A typicaly blooming space industry wich had not done something yet to be recognized. And to show to its own people, so the futher american moon-naut better like's rice:)
Well ehm..
Looking at global impact of America on the world resources today.
I could say that 10% of the people of the world.
Equals about 1% of those high resource users today..oops.
Intrestingly read, as the money part is indeed intresting.
The country with the biggest money problem is wel you know it ehm the same country
Dont hope the trust in dollars might vaporize with such expensive ideas, it could mean a dollar collapse which would have a big impact on money markets (but will in the end balance).
Think its no good to go to mars, another startrek film might cause the same global effects. Just pulpscience for the masses they dontneed to bycicle on red sand.
And honestly who cares about life in the universe?
I mean would it change the way you live?
Would your alarmclock allow you more sleep because there is life out there?
no nothing will change.
nah no need for linux
I'm thinking they will run a customized windows mobile version on it, a small OS.
with their main products included, with all the network connectivity included.
Well personaly is just like PDA's more then PC's.
They boot faster do the things in just a few clicks and most of all are handy, and a lot of software is available for them, even a lot freeware.
Why i like it above linux, is that when you have to manage large envrionments i rather would like to be able to fallback on a company instead of a free group of voluntairs when there arise some problems. It could be novell or apple as well, but over the years MS has proven good in this field of support.
I'm just wondering : is going to mars commercialy intresting? is going to the moon commercialy intresting?
Going to the moon might be something dough not for you and I, it would be intresting for mining industries for rare metal harvesting. The best thing to build on the moon would then next be a robot assembly line, to futher rebuild the moon into a underground moonbase, using much of the same mining holes. In this way we can get something back from the moon. and later colonize it (perhaps). That's economicly and could be a rather more stable futher plan.
Going to mars well ehm to be seriously it only costs a hell of lot of money, and in the end it might just only be a news item on jerry springer. Sorry to say its not economical to do. The same amount of money could be used for other things. For example science satelites, or scholing of scientist. Mars is just far away a round trip costs lots of time and what do we want to find there? Why walk there? If we want intresting science then think of sending science robots to the satelites of jupiter, much more intresting too in terms of search for life. Overall the search of life shouldn't drive a project to go to mars. If we have colonized the moon like sketched above. Then maybe i say maybe it will then later become economicaly intresting to go futher.
Altough it's more likely to go in to commet mining all together if you think about it.
Well i've been thinking a couple of times now to create a device to project a text on a front driving car, so i could say speedup, or i could sa
Get out of the way you slow driving people, or to say your light is broken, or to say watch out there cops overthere.:))
no i'm not speeding, it's just that i live in democratic country and i have voted for a diference speed, and i still represent my fraction
hahaha:))
Strange if true, the romans did use concrete to create lots of forms in buildings. Why if they had a kind of concrete would they be building blocks?? It's not logic those people in that time where handy. Probaply more handy then a lot of 'modern' people who only know how to right click...
Just explain logix would be create walls of this stuf (not even besed on blocks) then fill it up with concrete.
i mentioned NS. only because it's a rather public informative source for the not to complex reader. You can fnid other info on this on the internet too.
But I do not agree, this could in fact be a dangerous toy. Generaly they test things because they don't know if they can trust or confirm the mathematical models of our world. In fact our math models are not complete, unfinished, or don't reflect what actualy is our world. So it is not sure (until it has been proven in reality)what this giant box of pandora will produce
I'm sorry to say but the orignal comment might be true At least artificaly tiny blackholes have been created by now (with the gold atoms smashing expiriments) those block holes existed ony a few mili mili seconds but their intake of mass and their behaviour was not normal. Luckly so far these blackholes where not stable.
You can find such info back at newscientist site if yu like. But don't say i didnt warned you for this.
Well it's true oil companies want to do one thing, that is sell oil. Dont be mistaken they dont like to change their main bussines. They do give the public the idea they are working on alternative feul.
And hydrogen motors and storage designs have been and real efficient cars have been build. But then they say each time "the infra structure isn't ready for it." And they are right on that as they dont do anything on that field. There by effectively killing this market, and protecting their own oil monopoly.
You might say thats not true but it is. Ive been in Iceland, a country with lots of free natural energy or rather to much.. There is a shell hydrogen pump, its running as an expirment for years now. The technology is there, but its not realy used, or exported. The main car feul is still oil there, thats strange. As iceland has so much green energy they even use it in aluminium refinment (electricly melting aluminium requires enormous amounts of energy). So lots of energy but not much of push there to use it. Or for example to export the hydrogen. There exist ships who are made for exporting gas. But they dont travel from iceland, why is that ???
A breaktrough will come (they know that) as price of oil goes slowly upwards. most of you will remember the oil crisis in the seventies. Suddenly we got a popup of all kind of alternative feuls and engines. It's verry close to that, better bateries are invented all the time it seams But the only ones who can massivly change this 'energy' market. Wil not like to change their monopoly money. So this infrastructure wil not soon be rebuild by them.
What i wonder is we in Europe saw how in America lawsuits started agains tabacao industries. Is that going to happen also for the oil companies, as a force to change them? Will they be blamed for their lack of actions on infra structural changes. Or for poisoning the air of my children, and making a climate disaster?. Perhaps such lawsuits could be used to force them to create such infrastructures. The car industry has got limitations on feul, but the main oil industry still lacks any kiind of responsebiliy or regulations on this.
While most people would like to change our world in a bit more green world. And be less dependent of those mid east 'dangerous oil nations' If we wouldnt use their oil, they would have less money to fund their warr machinery And perhaps as a by product, there might come some peace also. I wonder why we dont follow this path, as we can design our own future. We design our future all the time, but on this subject we often act like kids.
So finnaly a linux version gets support. What does the linux community say.. Help "it goes to the big companies" and it wouldn't evolve anymore. (btw look how fast MS has evolved in this way).
I think linux people should make a choice, unix has had a verry long historie of versions even before linux. Would it like to go in that way or would it rather build on something get support from companies like Novell. You can say no i want to be free. But then think of you as an administrator running 300 machines with linux. You are responsable for them, now for some reason you have problem, then what are you going to do ????
At home you would probaply post it in a forum, and with luck get a great answer. But your not at home your at work, 300 desktops have a problem, would you be able to debug it, could you rewrite the code, or would you rather call your vendor. The vendor with who you made a contract deal for support.
In some respect MS is a bit more grown up. And this could be the time to realize that linux needs to grow up too, in this way. And dont think "wel i have linux mail relay which routes all my (MS Exchange) Email to the outside world (as you think Linux is so safe). As I know such custommers, but non was able to reconfigure their sendmail when their design required changes. Even when i talked to their Email experts. They couldn't do it. Think of it with 300 desks behind it..... So when you go deep you better have a good knowledge of it all, or if you dont have it get contracts with a support company who can help you. Novell might become just that for this linux build.
Okay perhaps it wouldn't evolve that fast (in the beginning) but look how fast MS evolved. Perhaps not that free either, but the hired men who needs to configure your environment isn't working for free either. Neither is the time you spend late night to post problems in blogs it does cost other people's time.
But these days people complain when they buy some software why is it 350 euro (5 licenses for an antivirus product) While they like to buy an expensive company car. This man was explaining that it was so expansive for him as a small office company. But he forgot the car was only to drive to a custommer sometimes, while he used his other software all the times.
This 350 euro is nothing compared to the price of a car 350 euro is nothing compared to hiring an IT expert for one day (but they need to live) 350 euro devided trough the hours it is used is almost nothing.
Perhaps not in a chip before but solid state devices with no moving parts to genereate electricity allready exist and for quite a long time now.
If remember well some are used to power satelites
And Philips (a large electronic company) has made some inventions in this field, years ago.
Egghead A "how to handle day count like ehmm x mod 365 perhaps ?" Egghead B "No i'm telling you when we are out of orbit we dont have seizons" Egghead D "no no no in space still we got to respect earth's time" Egghead C "but it makes no sense why not just count days from departure" Egghead A "Barrttender we need hik another orange hik burp sorry and a chocolat" Egghead B "how about Maya time at least that never went wrong" Egghead C "but in 2006 februari will have 27 days right?"
Egghead E thinking.. thinking.. i can fix it, i make the year 366 days, no one will notice
What a briliant minds...
how it ended well... (Egghead A "if they dont listen to me i keep it grounded, as i want to win this)
So you work for a company. And leave it for an excuse of your past company before novell... ????? Damn forget who is paying you ..... ?

no i'm not speeding, it's just that i live in democratic country and i have voted for a diference speed, and i still represent my fraction
hahaha :))
Proof or idea, that's a difference.
I'm sorry to say but the orignal comment might be true
At least artificaly tiny blackholes have been created by now
(with the gold atoms smashing expiriments) those block holes existed ony a few mili mili seconds but their intake of mass and their behaviour was not normal.
But then they say each time "the infra structure isn't ready for it."
And they are right on that as they dont do anything on that field.
As iceland has so much green energy they even use it in aluminium refinment
(electricly melting aluminium requires enormous amounts of energy).
It's verry close to that, better bateries are invented all the time it seams
But the only ones who can massivly change this 'energy' market.
And be less dependent of those mid east 'dangerous oil nations'
If we wouldnt use their oil, they would have less money to fund their warr machinery
And perhaps as a by product, there might come some peace also.
This 350 euro is nothing compared to the price of a car
350 euro is nothing compared to hiring an IT expert for one day (but they need to live)
350 euro devided trough the hours it is used is almost nothing.
Perhaps not in a chip before but solid state devices with no moving parts to genereate electricity allready exist and for quite a long time now. If remember well some are used to power satelites And Philips (a large electronic company) has made some inventions in this field, years ago.
I always believe it works :)
inside the Egg head cafe..
