    Unless we move to more consolidation and monopoly, I don't see why this would be the case. Robotic equipment doesn't magically remove competition - why should profit margins go up? If COGS go down, so will prices - not profits. Walmart will only be a single-digit percentage point profitable no matter what they do with robots.

    You are missing the point. With increased automation, the cost of production is moving from a labor cost to a capital cost. So the profits going to the owner said capital are not necessarily increasing, but they are definitely increasing when compared to the falling profit going to labor. Which is pretty cool if you happen to be capital. And kinda sucks if you happen to be labor.

    Power to weight. As a motorcyclist, I would imagine you would understand. Even as impressive as the Ferrari's top speed might be. I bet that it will take a much longer straight stretch to reach top speed than your Ducati. Long stretches make for boring tracks (IMHO).

    While I suspect you are joking, even "high-proof" alcohol is only about 50% alcohol by volume. The other 50% is "stuff that doesn't burn all that well". Which is why your average Molotov Cocktail is made with gasoline.

    And, for the record, I have never seen a bottle of Everclear in a duty free shop.

Yes, the plural of "anecdote" is not "data"; and I have had a number of truly bizarre interactions on Linkedin. On the balance, I consider my overall experience positive.

    If you remove the personal nuclear devices, then you would have gun problem.

    If you remove guns, then you would have a sword problem.
    If you remove sword, then you'd have spear problem.
    If you remove spears, then you'd have a rock problem.
    Get rid of rocks and it would simply be the biggest guy wins.

    The "gun problem" is merely another face of a violence problem.

    Since you have been flying combat missions, I assume you are an officer. In which case, you should be aiming for management, IMHO. Engineering management, if you will. In this way you can combine both the skills you have developed in the military with your engineering background.

    Even in big dumb mechanical and/or civil engineering, 10-12 years is a long time and I would not rely on your previous experience as an engineer will hold much weight.

    If you really want to get back into for-reals engineering, go back to school. This will refresh and sharpen your skills.

    Actually. No.

    Once Upon A Time mass manufacturing operated better on large piece runs. However, modern techniques have swung the other direction and most automobile manufacturers can (at least theoretically) handle one piece flow.

    Shipping automobiles is still a bit more efficient in bulk, though I can imagine two or three different scenarios to alleviate this last constriction.

    It works out to 492.5 smoots. That last half smoot is rather unfortunately for Mr. Smoot and I imagine will leave the top of the building rather messy.
