If you deploy a database durectly on the internet or in an area of your LAN where folks can easily attempt to log into it, you deserve to be breached. Most smart app/network designers will place their database(s) behind layers of firewalls so only the application servers in question have access. In this situation, having a blank system admin password (although stupid) is not so much a risk - only your production deployment crew should even HAVE access - it's called defense in depth.

Does anyone remember the Pool of Radiance DnD series of games for the Commodore 64 and Apple II? This, in my estimation, was one of the greatest DnD games to date. Sure there is no online play, but the group combat was marvelous, the stories were compelling, and I could get right into the action of DnD style group combat without much hassle. Is there any modern DnD game that similuates group combat like these old titles? I hate these new first person dnd games where the essence of group combat is gone!

I agree. XML is old hat at this point. I especially love XPATH, it's the easiest way I know to address XML.

Recently in the Ajax world I've started using Googles AXPATH library to handle ajax xml responses at the Javascript client level. Even with old machines and very complex XML, googles xpath javascript library (open source) has worked miracles for recent projects! It's part of googles http://goog-ajaxslt.sourceforge.net/ library - and the xpath piece can be ripped out and used by itself.

It's funny that even the mainstream non-technical media is acknowledging the power of young blood. Check out this CNN article from today: http://money.cnn.com/2006/03/13/technology/microso ft_employees/index.htm?cnn=yes from today. Not once does it mention that MS is having problems finding "seasoned programmers in their 40's" - I recall my days at WebMD where I wrote rings around senior engineers with 10 years my seniority. It's wasn't skill, it was energy, drive, motivation, lack os sleep, no kids or responsibilities... things that have a tendency to change with age. My favorite scenario is 2-3 senior developers (10+ years coding experience) managing and mentoring a team of "20 somethings" - seems to be a good mix towards success.
