Being chained to a desk isn't nessacary anymore. laptop, wireless connection and your golden.

Perhaps I should have elaborated on "being chained to a desk". I was trying to point out that certain types of multitasking are more feasible with TV as a medium. Things like cooking, cleaning, etc - pretty much anything that doesn't tie your hands up w/a keyboard and mouse can be done with the news on. News with video doesn't even require you constantly look at it...

While I realize I am in the minority here, this is nice to hear for those of us without televisions at home. Watching the news is one thing I miss, even if I may disagree w/some of the politics... Sure, I can always read the news on the web, but the radio/TV form of media does let accomplish more at once (since you aren't chained to a desk).

For a brief period in my early childhood, I was able to achieve lucidity in dreams, and say, hey, this is just a dream, and I can do anything. Sadly this never came back.

I don't know if you care enough to regain the ability but lucid dreaming is still possible in adulthood. The basics are 1) Building Dream recal and 2) Introducing reality checks. Dream recall is increased by keeping a dream journal when you first wake up. Reality checks (though annoying) usually consist of looking at print, looking away, then checking again to see if it changed. Also, looking at your hands through out the day, or questioning if you are dreaming can work...

I noticed the same effect: games before bed usually carried into my dreams. But one night I had the unusual experience where games were crossed with dreams AND sleepwalking.

My wife tells it better since she was conscious during the whole ordeal, but I'll try to recap it as she did. It started after a night of Counter-strike and Enemy Territory. Normally I go to sleep first since i have to wake up ealier. Anyway, my wife came into the room after I'd been asleep for about an hour or two. Suddenly, I launched myself out of bed and screamed "Go! Go! Go!". Next I proceeded to sneak through the living room (hiding behind certain objects like chairs, then scrurrying behind another) and approached the kitchen where I intended to "plant the dynamite". I kept looking back at my wife, saying things like "What are you doing?! Get down or u might get hit!". All the while she's just looking at me trying not to burst out laughing. It was close to this point where my dream started to fade and consciousness started to set in. "Oh man, did I just act out that whole senario?", I thought to myself...

I took a break from FPSs after that episode.

A lot of the artwork has changed to a much more professional look than 2005LE (You will know what I'm talking about if you installed/used 2005LE).

Yeah, I do know what you mean. I'm assuming you're refering to that crazy, star-eyed looking penguin that is displayed on boot. Man that's embarrassing. My wife seriously though it was Daffy Duck! So now whem I'm booting my LE2005 install at work, I have people thinking that Daffy Duck is built into my OS?

Though I can't say I care much for windows, I did know an admin that seemed to be a huge fan. Unaware of this fact, I called him one day to spread the exciting news about OpenOffice (I had just found out and wanted to let others know about this $$ saving alternative). He cut me short and said "I don't care for open source - we only do Microsoft here". That was pretty shocking to me since I'd never actually encounted someone *seriously* devoted to Microsoft. Then again, in retrospect, maybe those that "love" Microsoft simply fear the unknown of OSS...

  9. Sense of accomplishment on Pay vs. Happiness · · Score: 1

For me, a sense of accomplishment is extremely important. Sometimes at the end of the week/day I find myself asking "what was actually accomplished?". So to remedy this, I started keeping a simple to-do list text file with tasks that need to be done and marking them "cleared" once I finished them. This probably sounds pretty basic to most, but it helps... The benefit is two fold since it helps with the short term sense of achievement AND provides focus for what needs to be accomplished. I've tried using other "Task" programs yet the notepad doc seems to work best.
