This is the kind of thing that might lead towards nano-scale optical computing. And is also a potential small step towards the holy grail of tech - molecular scale assemblers.. Its even made of roughly the right material - grapheme - not such a large step from diamond composites...
Gama rays are like everything else (lasers, microwaves, sunlight, water, etc), only really bad if you get too much of them. At the level these scanners work at they are completely safe.. - - A minute statistical danger, that is in reality totally irrelevant.
They set up a 18 km (11 mile) radius no fly zone for drones (and aircraft). Maybe worried about attack by drones armed with nuclear weapons. (been waiting to make that joke since read about it a week ago..:) )
13 us in GPS is a pretty big or small misalignment, depending on how you look at it - some 4.1 Km. Definitely enough to upset systems like GPS guidance. - Of course most of the time there is plenty of satellite redundancy..
What you're seeing and describing is true brainwashing. Her thought process has been replaced by what is essentially a command process. She has to obey by reflex, and not obeying would eventually force what is essentially a mental breakdown. (how you break brainwashing) Where this kind of brainwashing comes from I'm not totally sure but it seems to be certain churches, certain types of political groups, even certain media channels. It is not totally deliberate, it spreads more like a disease and the carriers unconsciously affect (infect) new parties, who in turn go on to infect others..
It is not just the extreme right where we see this kind of brainwashing, it appears in both left and right wing groups especially protest groups. I live in the UK and first came across it in the anti-nuclear movement, and in an extreme left wing group called 'The Socialist Workers Party'. A lot of religions use it, the military uses it. (it can be used for good or evil) My own analysis and understanding came from looking at the anti-nuclear movement and how they gained power and followers.. -
Brainwashing. The key to how basic brainwashing works is simply high intensity emotion - 'the delivery system', coupled with some repeated phrase or slogan - 'the payload'. The emotions used are usually either fear, or panic, anger, fury, or hate.. - Basic indoctrination works by using simple phrases repeated frequently over a period of time. There must be a catch of resonance between victim and message or it will not take. Subliminal indoctrination is intended to work mostly in the background, for instance phrases repeated again and again on TV. The real core of subliminal indoctrination occurs while the person is asleep, during their dreams when their defences are completely absent.. The brainwashing program is tuned to reoccur during the persons dreams, where the program repeats and integrates with the persons long term memory and personality.. Indoctrination can be made much stronger a simpler & more direct method - by getting people as groups to chant the command phrases or slogans, usually with a high level of insistency and volume and emotion. Once indoctrinated people lie instinctively, and actually rewrite the maps of their own memory to follow the lie, all powered by a charge of emotion like fear..
Example emotions:- The Nazis used fear and hate of the Jews. The anti-nuclear campaign used fear paranoia and panic. The same with the more general green campaign groups over pollution or climate change. Right wing groups use the same things, except that it might be fear of pedophiles or liberals or the government or of criminals. In the case of the climate change denial movement it seems to be fear of government conspiracy or of paying excess taxes or of the 'liberal science gravy train'.. Its easy to create strong fear around things people care about - usually either money or their children or their own lives, or about future survival or the environment.. Or against things they naturally fear - nuclear war, immigrants, strangers, crime, lack of control, lack of money, someone else getting an unfair advantage, etc.. Just knowing about propaganda is a great way to fight it. If you notice it in others you are already beating it. However convincing or 'breaking' the indoctrinated tends to be far more difficult, and they can turn violent. (frequently) Some can break this stuff easily, some seemingly can never break it.. most of us are somewhere in the middle.. Sorry this is so long - always love to tell people about the ugly truth about this.. One ugly truth is worth a million beautiful lies..:D
No I disagree. Once you get caught being a corporate scumbag your career opportunities should be limited to cleaning the inside of sewers.. A place where you will truly fit in
Their still really years or decades away from being able to do a lot of that. Not being able to do the physics properly is one of the main reasons that VR isn't yet ready for prime time either.. In computer animation all objects are massless -worse mostly they can just pass through each other. 3D collision and true solid modelling are super processor and memory intensive..
More accurate to say - There was an (observed) effect, but the effect was small and too unpredictable to be 'useful'. The psychic 99% garbage, 1% possibly or probably real.. Analysis of physical effects implies very strongly that psycho-spiritual (religious) models of the world are not correct. To the layman this could be interpreted as proof of the non-existence of god. . .
A primer programming course that starts with C ? Maybe they should cut out the middleman and start with naked machine code instead. Maybe even assembly is too high level so teach them using naked hexadecimal and CPU code translation tables. C compilers often actually allow direct inline assembly, and all basically allow direct hex coding. Create an array, fill it with hex, and then call it as a function. I'm a barbarian.:)
A relativistic vehicle would have far more destructive potential as a simple mass driver then any nuclear warhead it carried.. Let alone that building something on the scale of a Dyson sphere.. In comparison in the Star Wars universe the Death Star was 120 km across, and they had one. (ok two) It would take millions or billions of machines bigger than that first Death Star to build a Dyson sphere. And a single machine 100 km across would need engines that would put out the power of billions of nuclear bombs exploding continuously.. A nuclear explosion wouldn't even scratch them.. If all that is not enough a civilization with FTL capacity would be able to build sensors that could detect future incoming threat potentials, and proactively react to them. (in effect machine precognition) They would also regard relativistic impactors as a primary threat and would no doubt have specific defences to deal with them. Might as well use bows and arrows as nuclear weapons...
Yes because if people stopped being so scared they might stop panicking and then they would be able to use their rational minds. Humans on panic are no smarter than chickens - just the way the politicians and the media like them..
Maybe that's why you don't know what your talking about. The smallest nukes are 10,000 times smaller than the largest, and they can be targeted precisely, and explosive force can be tuned to minimise collateral damage. If the military ever wanted them then theoretically they could even build near zero radiation weapons - they stopped the development because they wanted weapons that killed with a flash of intense radiation and less physical destruction instead.. Those near zero radiation weapons also didn't need fissile material and that made them a slight proliferation risk..
Yes but why is the US upgrading its nukes? Simple a large imbalance of power is starting to build up with the Russians and Chinese both spending money on newer & more advanced weapons.. There is also the problem that the submarines may no longer be able to stay hidden making them basically obsolete..
Sports drone with FPV control, or AI face recognition and GPS. Setting a drone up with 1 km + radio is also not very difficult.. Or with a bit more technical ability use an IR laser designator.. Fit it with a knife or an anti-personnel grenade or small high explosive bomb. Or as rtb61 said you could cover a drones blades with poison.. If you have a really high profile target and some more money then go for an attack based on drone swarming technology.. Stopping one drone might be quite easy but stopping a dozen of fifty at once? That's the big (near future) fear the military are currently worrying about..

It depends. Now if you use fm, now that really is small. (10^-15 m, a naked proton across)

Humanity? its more important than that, its sport. (YAWN!) You have my sympathy..

Probably a bug.. Sadly.

Hey it cost me a billion $$$ I might have won on the lottery - if I ever played...
Gods .. you really are an annoying insect turd anonymous..
Oops I accidentally voted him up when trying to vote him down. Slip of mouse. Stupid Slashdot. Vote cancelled..!

So comrade Putin's bombs are more gentle are they?? You.re an idiot.
The Davy Crocket had two safety systems - a padlocked outer box and an on off button..
Yep they already have suicide robots - they call them 'martyrs'.
The lawnmower police state.. And it wont do a thing to actually combat climate change..

Terrorism is the mouse that roars.
You mean the fascists? In the UK we call them the EDF.
