Maybe even assembly is too high level so teach them using naked hexadecimal and CPU code translation tables. A relativistic vehicle would have far more destructive potential as a simple mass driver then any nuclear warhead it carried.. Let alone that building something on the scale of a Dyson sphere.. In comparison in the Star Wars universe the Death Star was 120 km across, and they had one. (ok two) It would take millions or billions of machines bigger than that first Death Star to build a Dyson sphere. And a single machine 100 km across would need engines that would put out the power of billions of nuclear bombs exploding continuously.. A nuclear explosion wouldn't even scratch them.. If all that is not enough a civilization with FTL capacity would be able to build sensors that could detect future incoming threat potentials, and proactively react to them. The smallest nukes are 10,000 times smaller than the largest, and they can be targeted precisely, and explosive force can be tuned to minimise collateral damage. If the military ever wanted them then theoretically they could even build near zero radiation weapons - they stopped the development because they wanted weapons that killed with a flash of intense radiation and less physical destruction instead.. Those near zero radiation weapons also didn't need fissile material and that made them a slight proliferation risk..
Yes but why is the US upgrading its nukes? Simple a large imbalance of power is starting to build up with the Russians and Chinese both spending money on newer & more advanced weapons.. Sports drone with FPV control, or AI face recognition and GPS. Setting a drone up with 1 km + radio is also not very difficult.. Or with a bit more technical ability use an IR laser designator.. Fit it with a knife or an anti-personnel grenade or small high explosive bomb. Or as rtb61 said you could cover a drones blades with poison.. If you have a really high profile target and some more money then go for an attack based on drone swarming technology.. Stopping one drone might be quite easy but stopping a dozen of fifty at once? That's the big (near future) fear the military are currently worrying about..
