Yeah, not forking off your own little version of every damn bit of code you can get your grubby little hands on is so horrible! Those linux people are so stupid. Interopability Schminteroperability
And what if the TOS states that you must suck my dick?
TOS's are the worst sort of lawyerly cowardice.
Does the average schmo who installs AOL, ever read all of that fine print anyway? And what if the only way to get on to the internet is by signing up via a nasty TOS, oh gee, see you can't get online unless you let us censor you, but thats not censorship, you agreed to it.
Clearly you don't actually use your code or software for anything. Then you might actually care about something as important as the license. humm, tools, schmools hey, I can always reinvent all my wheels, and start over with the next big language when Guido or the company he works for does something stupid with python. Anyone with a business plan, and any hope of something beyond the hobbyist level has to care about the details.
This is just a scam, for Network Solutions, ICANN, or whoever will be in charge of registering these domains. This is just a tax for websites, if you have a valueable site, then to "protect" it you have to register your domain in a dozen or so TLDs. And just how is this supposed to help the supposed lack of domains. Do you think you can register microsoft.shop or napster.tv, etc and not get sued. These and any other more generic domains will be legally taken/stolen away by the companys owning the.com,.net, etc of that name. This is just so stupid. The only people drooling for a.shop domain, are cracksmoking marketingdroids.
You have to be kidding, that has to be the worst SF show ever! They didn't get anything right, terrible, terrible. Frankly its even worse than that Fox Space show with the chiggs or whatever the hell they called them. Jesus, man!
Is there a boycot site already in existance or are people working on it. This must be stoped, it has to be boycotted and the boycot must be organized and publicized to have any effect. i.e. where/how are we going to get together on this?
they're my DSL provider you asswipe! I just got the fucking thing after 3 months of damn pain in the ass BS. Its not surprising they're going down the toliet, their service is shit, at one point during the initial install, they told my ISP I told them I didn't want DSL, because I changed jobs and my new employer wasn't going to pay for it. Total made-up BS!
Shit, with their attitude we felt lucky they let us USE the computers, let alone have ANYTHING to do with administration. That required you to be a grad student, and one well-liked by the rat-bag faculty members. For that and another dozen or so reasons, alumni mailings and calls get the trash or a "fuck you" hangup.
The size of what you're looking for makes no difference. That won't effect gnutellanet much. Once you've done the query, getting the file is a matter of your box talking to the box with the file.
By innovation do they mean the "innovation" that so utterly characterizes Microsoft products? Then I'm all for it, God please make "Innovation"(trademarked) disappear. That kind of "innovation" no one needs.
he said. ''I worry if the
government encourages open source, and I don't think we've done
enough education of policy makers to understand the threat."
Sound like he means they have not spent enough on bribes to help the "education" of policy makers. Get Marc Rich in on this, he and his lawyers definately know how to "get things done".
But then who needs it to scale? Let there be a dozen or a hundred such networks. I don't think you will need a huge number of individuals to make it so that the majority of searches will find appropriate files. Maybe for executable files, source code or other specific data it would not be good. But when I look for music with napster, I only sometimes get what I actually set out for, but instead get lots of other stuff I stumble apon. And for music, porn and some other things that will more than satisfy.
and other random bits of trash from my house. I also would put the paperwork from junkmailing A in junkmailing B's return envelope, etc. That way, the junkmailer has paid to get someone elses junkmail.

AAN of course not, that afterall could possibly be used for the pirating of IP. So Jack Valenti says fuck you and the computer you rode in on.

In a socialistic economy copywrite would be theft and punishable by death.
